Stumbled across your channel about a day ago and watched about 15 - 20 vids already. Good to see someone getting stuck into cars on their driveway and not spending a fortune or doing hack jobs.
i was tripping out on how you actually painted the engine with a brush paint. i thought it was going to be like a spray can painting. but it came out great. i dont think it is pointless in painting the motor. it gives the motor some potential when your selling it. Great job.
I paint my engines pale blue but any light colour is ok. A light colour lets you see any oil leaks as soon as they start and lightens the engine bay if you have to do any work in there.
You might as well paint it while you have good access. A clean engine block will help you get the best possible price when you come to sell it. Your timing belt change is another plus point and is total peace of mind for the new owner. If you have to fit any new sensors make sure you use genuine GM or OEM ones. The aftermarket ones don't last and the 1.8 is the worst for this. Make sure that you use a decent quality engine oil and use a GM oil filter if you can.
i love that you choosed to pant it! if you do something, put som pride in it All the way, and if your gonna do another engine - then you still have a bit of paint left for that one too 🖒🖒
I realise this is more than a year ago, but you should really unwind the extension lead fully when using high power things! Had a lucky escape at work once.. Other than that, one of the best progress thread/builds on youtube. Keep up the good work!
another brilliant video and congratulations on having over 1000 subscribers, could you do a video about clutch replacement and maybe more specifically, clutch release bearing replacement, mine sounds worn out and needs to be changed
another good job! cant say ive ever painted my engines but really want to give it a go now, it looks really good :-) one question what size bolts are you using to mount your engine to the stand? :-)
Seems to be alright so far bud, the paint itself is high temp so I don't really think it matters providing the surface is clean and free of contamination
Only car guys understand painting your engine. Agree that black is fairly pointless. Silver or grey stands out you can see things more easily and spot leaks or wipe down in the exact area....black tends to hide things i would always go for a gloss enamel finish. If the engines still in the car its nice to paint the front of the block if you remove most of the gubbins. Nobody sees the back of the engine. Im painting mine soon even though its out of the car i will only be painting the sides and front.
very gd vid m8 liked vid im doin mine soon bit it be mat black as it will stand out with my lime green bits goin on and stage 2 head swap and end of year turbo
Another great video James. Great job on the editing too. Yes its a short video but the edit and use of the music really lifted it. What is that track you used???? Looking forward to the next installment. ATB Steve

Great video, but GM blocks are black from the factory.
I’ve rebuilt many, and it’s good to see it still being done with enthusiasm. Keep it up! 👍
Good job! I'll be painting my old Triumph's block soon. Only suggestion would be to put some tape over the intake and exhaust holes.

can you paint straight on after the clean up without high temp prime
Seems to be alright so far bud, the paint itself is high temp so I don't really think it matters providing the surface is clean and free of contamination
