      watching these mixing vids made me realize one thing: once you're a pro at mixing you kinda go full circle and do the same things you did as a complete noob (but this time with purpose)
      "yeah, so I put on this weird plug-in and I kinda don't know what this does, but turning this knob makes the track sound better" - t. some total noob, but also every pro having a mixing vid on youtube

    I love how unafraid Nolly is of using Soothe and pushing it to audibly hear a smoother sound. I see so many people trying to be so subtle with Soothe, just BARELY touching like .5dB of reduction on those notches, almost pointless. The brain is a fickle thing, sometimes making you think that what you're doing is doing something, when really your brain just makes you think something is happening that you "expect" by simply clicking on a plugin.

      It's because soothe can start to get really harmful by taking away important resonances to the sound and essentially making it lose all of it's power. As with everything, it's situational.

    • @escalator9734
      @escalator9734 4 роки тому +1

      The stems provided are mixed
      It is indeed pointless. They probably just took the album stems they sell instead of exporting every single track. Can't think of any reasons why.

    • @silura8349
      @silura8349 4 роки тому

      @@escalator9734 did you reference against the producer pack? That's interesting. I think the point behind this was to kind of show what nolly did to achieve those mixed sounds as sort of a demonstration of how he mixed within that context, as well as mainly showing you a way to process the P4 kit and other GGD kits. My belief is that the goal of these guys is to give everyone the knowledge to mix a competitive sounding record, in the hopes that people will focus more on songwriting rather than chasing tones, which seems to be the trend in many young self producers these past few years.

    • @escalator9734
      @escalator9734 4 роки тому +1

      @@silura8349 I don't know what it's called I just saw it when picking up the free stems.
      I think the same way you do about the videos, but I guess it was more motivated as a ggd ad than a real educational thing, like a nail the mix style.
      I don't like it but there's nothing wrong with that, they're here to sell their product not give free knowledge/practice, that has monetary value (again like nail the mix).
      It's still a great watch, the mic is broken down in video and we get a view of what a great not so common sounding engineer does, in detail. Then stems themselves are pointless in that regard.
      But yea it's always good to have pros laying down knowledge, it's gonna be helpful for a lot of people and I only wish I had this kind of content we have know from all these channels/articles back when I started.
