I miss John Prine. Looks like Stephen misses him too-couldn’t even send to commercial after the song was over. Kurt really captures the spirit of the music. Storytelling at its best.
@Helen Lizzy Stewart kind sir, I understand hence what you sayeth, however perhaps he has always Imitated John Prines singing, therefore and forth with, he I said that
Kurt doesn't sound anything like John Prine. They recorded this song as a duet before he died and it's the differences in their voices that makes it special. Open your ears.@@hotlov72
Every time I listen to Kurt and John playing that on the record it brings a few sad tears of how lucky I was to see John the year before he passed away. Kurt’s performance on Colbert was a fine tribute.
I was just browsing through my old music earlier, saw Kurt Vile and thought to myself "Haven't listened to him in awhile". Going through YT subs and came across this gem.
Why this is a big deal: The April 2022 article from the Guardian chronicles how Kurt’s unhappiness with his performance of “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” on the Seth Meyers show in 2020 motivated him to write “Like Exploding Stones” that night. This solo performance is a triumphant return.
In 2013 John Prine sang the same song at the Colbert report and he did a duet of Paradise with Stephen. That's my guess why he is so emotional at the end
KV is such a dead ringer for Dave Mustain that every time I hear KV’s voice for the first time in a live performance it momentarily sends my frontal lobe into a downward spiral.
kurt is a special artist

@@hotlov72 no he is not that is how Kurt sings if you have heard and watched him perform you would not say that

Vile's voice is a trip, man! Long live John Prine!
"Bronzed admiration in a blindspot of regret" Thank you John & Kurt.
I was taken with that line as well!❤

Wow hitting us with that raw Prine, bringing tears to my dehydrated late-night eyes! Rock on to Colbert, the Team, and of course Vile!

Great job Kurt! Carrying the folk torch on national TV in 2022.
Love this guy

im very proud of my music soul heart for knowing good music when I hear it. Kurt Vile's been at the top for a long time!
wow. colbert was holding back tears.
That is a man that you would think “he probably plays guitar” even if he wasn’t holding one…

Stephen Colbert is a huge John Prine fan. He’s a Priner!
this was very beautiful
I've loved Kurt since Pretty Pimpin'; I'm glad he's getting some air time
Thank you Kurt. What a world we live in.
Refreshing.
I love you Kurt! Rest easy, John
I really like this guy. Very heartfelt in his sound. Authentic…
love ya KV
Yep Vile da Man
Fuckin love KV....such an amazin artist
Incredible! ❤️💜
I miss John Prine.
Me too.
Excellent.
Beautiful
As much as I loved his cover, It's not the same without hearing John's Rusted but wise voice coming through. Thanks Kurt. Thanks Stephen.
BEST ARTIST EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A gem.
Lovely
Well done.
Well done Kurt. Prine was the best song writer ever!
Kurt should be a yearly guest
More live music, please, and thank you.
Thank You!
Indeed _very_ John Prine-esque.
WOW!
very nice
Man, I wonder why Stephen wasn't mic'd at the end. After the song he's like "...(vaguely gestures at Kurt)"
He's a big fan of Prine (the music and the man). I think Kurt's song choice had him a little choked up.
Good band.. Sounded like some of those 90s alternative rock bands...
❤️✌️

Nice Arlo Guthrie vibe there...
Any tabs for this?
So… Dog?
I had tears in my eyes too. From being bored out of my fucking mind. 1/5.
Omg are you kidding me? Trite at best. I could do that.
Checknout John Doe's new album. Actually you probably wouldn't like it if you aren't into the Vile stuff.
@@evanars1 Thank you for making me smile. I needed that tonight. I guess I'm a lucky man.
Oh yes. We all forgot you’re a very successful indie musician just like Kurt Vile. Forgive us.
Be quiet mouth breather, stay in your lane.
@@hollydaugherty2620 I guess it’s a little painful when you discover your (lack of) taste in music isn’t universally appreciated.
I didn’t think I’d like it but I do
