Perfect tutorial video, fun and very informative. You make it look so easy when following your simple steps. Thank You. The tray is gorgeous; first time I’ve seen that done. You have gotten me so excited to start mixing and pouring resin art.
I agree with you about good and bad in art. certainly an artist may be unskilled or practiced. art is subjective, but the two most important opinions are those of the artist and the viewer. When I teach a class and we do an art or craft project, I like to tell my kiddos that there is no right or wrong way. (5 & 6 yr olds are too young to really get into the philosophy of art too much.) Art is really about the Journey of the artist in creating the piece.
I loved Joanne’s piece! It doesn’t look anything like the 10’s of thousands of other ocean or beach themed resin pieces that are currently saturating the market currently. It’s unique, has beautiful components and pallet. Definitely my preference out of them all.
I couldn't believe it at the end when Yolanda said Joanne's piece was "not as good as my piece"... WOW! lol! I agree, I think Joanne's piece is gorgeous!
I love both, I thought I was hearing things, when she said, "not as good as my piece!" But don't mind me. Loved the rose gold palette. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Shonda Bea I was thinking the same thing why does she need to say that? She could have said, something like, it’s a great first piece. That bothered me
MotherPat Same here. I had to rewind it, in hopes that I misheard her. I was quite disappointed that she did say it. Didn’t hear any jest in her tone, either. Wish it had been or will be edited out if that wasn’t her intent.
Agree, was disappointed in the comment at the end and thought it was uncalled for...seeing as I'm reading this a week later and it's implied to be a joke, tone of voice did not imply it as a joke. Good Tutorial very well put together the art of using resin is different for all artists but none the less a great tutorial, I never even thought of using painters tape on canvas, or even using a tray either. Totally new to all this stuff. How does it stay secured solidly to the surfaces? I keep thinking if the tray was flipped over and tapped firmly, the resin would pop right out. Or a design on the wall like that, why wouldn't it pop off if hit? Thanks
ArtResin adheres to mostly anything, except some plastics and silicone ( really anything that would repel water it will not stick to ). Once adhered it is nearly impossible to get it off.
@@sarahreilly5011 Hi Sarah. I'm just a regular viewer on you tube. I"ve bought my equipment off of Amazon and a site called Dryer Days Art Studio that has tons of great resin tutorials. If you look under See More under all the names that are under the video's name, they usually put up a URL link for all the materials they use. I will go to those, or search the name of a product and find a place that has the best price. I really like the products I've bought like the Art Resin, and then products that Katherine from Dryer Days Art Studio puts under her site. I wish I could help you more but I can't. I'm so sorry.
Yolanda recommends letting the resin sit for about 15 minutes before blending it, just to let it thicken up a bit so that the design will keep its shape and the colours don't end up melding into each other. After pouring a wood panel, Yolanda suggested waiting 4-6 hours before removing the tape.
I love joann's piece... the first halfway dry and the final 😍😍😍 I love the blue shades as well in the guest's art... thank you soooo much for your tips. so new! researching! so happy I found this! lots of #CaribbeanLove
These art great! Is it ok to not wear a respirator and how do you hang it? Could you please show the back before you hang it? Thank you, love the colors!
You can use any method you prefer with regard to hanging. You can purchase hanging hardware at any home improvement store or online. ArtResin is non-toxic and does not produce fumes, so if you use it in a well ventilated area a mask is not required. Hi very pretty!! Thanku for sharing your knowledge & teaching. Very helpful.. I want to try the resin, I live in a small apartment. I was told that's not a good idea & also it's very expensive. Is this true? What can I use to start with to use as practice pieces ? Thanku for your time
Hi Karen, I would try to find some smaller trays at a local dollar store. Sometimes they have items that will work really well and will help to save you some money :)
@@Artresin thanku. It's ok to use resin in a small apartment? That doesn't have much ventilation? I guess I left that part out of the question lol what kind of resin do I buy. Thanku
@@karens7620 Working with ArtResin you will want a well ventilated area or you will want to wear a respirator if ventilation is poor. 1, After you've mixed for 3 mins, how long before you have to pour it? Because you went back and mixed more white (3more mins) , and more blueblack (another 3 more mins), then added the other two previously mixed colors. 2. you didn't mention if you cover your work to protect it from dust etc while it cures...do you? 3. Does the heat gun eliminate bubbles, or just the torch 4. How long would an open bottle of resin and hardener last when used for a while? Thank you. Laura
Hi Laura, You have 45 minutes of working time after you mix the Resin and Hardener together. Yes you will want to cover your pieces to protect them from dust. We use a cardboard box or plastic tote usually. As for a heat gun vs a torch; Using a torch is the number one way to achieve a flawless, resin finish, free of bubbles. When you catalyze your ArtResin mixture, you create a lot of bubbles as you stir. Those bubbles need to be eliminated or they'll cure right into your piece. The flame from a torch heats the resin surface up instantly, thinning it out and allowing bubbles to escape very easily. Not only does a torch provide the pro results you're looking for, but has the added benefit of burning off tiny dust particles that may have landed in the resin. Others have tried using using a hairdryer or a heat gun but, again, those tools are not very effective because they just don't get hot enough and end up blowing the resin around. Last but not least ArtResin does have a self-life of about 6 months once opened. After 6 months the product will still cure properly we are simply referring to the clarity of the hardener as over time oxygen will begin to oxidize the hardener similar to a cut apple being left out. Hope this helps to answer your questions :)
This did not need any additional prep work, we just made sure it was clean and dust free. As for food safety, if your colorant is food safe then yes they would be food safe as well. If not all you will need to do is apply another coat of clear ArtResin to seal in the piece and then it will become food safe :) Please read our blog for more information: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/artresin-passes-food-safety-tests
Hi Sophie - thanks so much for watching! You can use lots of different colorants with resin, but it's best to use something really highly pigmented like mica/pigment powders, artist's acrylic paint, or colorants specifically designed for resin like resin paste or our Resin Tints. Be really careful using craft paint or fluid acrylics because they generally have less pigment so you need to use more - and because acrylic is water based, it might cause your resin to get thick or you may have curing issues. No matter which colorant you use, we suggest using no more than 6% of the total amount of your resin mixture ...so 50 ml resin + 50 ml hardener = 100 ml, so don't add more than 6 ml to the mix. And yes - you can totally add glitter, or beads, or shells, or crushed glass, or any other embellishments you like! Hope that helps :)
You can use paper towel to wipe the spatula clean then spritz with isopropyl alcohol to remove any sticky residue. For more tips on how to clean up, have a look at our blog: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/how-to-clean-up-epoxy-resin
I notice the resin is thicker compared to others I've seen when you start pouring (I've seen lot of others really thin) is that the type of resin you use or just letting it sit before using
Kasha, It could be that your resin is slightly cold. During the winter months it does seem a little thicker. The ideal temperature for both your ArtResin and your workspace is slightly warmer than room temperature: 75-85F or 24-30C.
I enjoyed this video very much and got a lot of useful tips! One question...where did you buy the tray? Is it metal or wood that's been painted? I have a Hobby Lobby store near me that has something similar and I was wondering what the tray is made of.
Thanks for watching! In this video we are using our Artists Torch to clear off the bubbles. You can purchase the Artists Torch on our website: www.artresin.com/products/artists-torch-pro
Yes :) Here is our blog on food safety for more information: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/artresin-is-food-safe-according-to-the-fda ArtResin is heat resistant to 120 degrees F, so I would check your heat settings on your dishwasher.
Thank you so much! I loved this...I need the control factor..LOL I like going a little wild...I am so going to try this method! love the big piece on the wall it looks like Malachite! PS I liked both pieces...
Hi Tammy - Nope, we didn't add anything. It's true that adding something like silicone oil will help create cells but we don't advise this ... silicone oil creates cells by repelling the resin which ends up causing bare spots and other issues in the resin. You can create cells by layering wet resin on wet resin in different colors. You can even use a hair dryer to push the resin around and this will create even more cells and lacing - this technique works particularly well with white.

They are a great company to work with and ship throughout Asia.
Oh wow, lol. I dont think I would have said " not as nice as mine", lol. Loved the vid, qant to get into doing this one day.
I just hope mine turns out as good as her's, lol.
I loved the rose gold one it was just as good as yours❤️🇦🇺
Kelly so true this is not a competition and Joanne appears to be having a great time☺
So lovely! very inspirational and instructive.
What a lovely presentation, I really enjoyed your tutorial Yolanda.
Wow! What fantastic pieces! I'm like Joanne. "Ok. It looks great. It's done." But then when I see the end result, after moving the colour around, it's gorgeous! Thank you so much for the tutorial. 😍😍😍
She really said not as good as my piece 😭 😭 😭 btw I’m glad I had the same reaction as the other comments lol I didn’t read them before had this time lmao 😂
I'd advice you put on a mask whenever you're handling those chemicals🙂❤
Anyways, good craft😘
ArtResin conforms to ASTM D4236, meaning it is certified as safe for home use and non-toxic when used as directed, however there are some safety precautions that every user should follow:
Wear gloves. ArtResin is very sticky in its liquid form, so gloves will protect the user from a mess, as well as skin irritation. Clean skin promptly with soap and water if it does come in contact with ArtResin.
If ArtResin somehow comes in contact with your eyes, flush with water repeatedly and do not rub. Promptly seek medical attention.
Work in a well ventilated area. Wear a respirator if ventilation is poor.

I thought we're suppose to spread love. Joanne's piece was just as good, especially considering she doesn't do that for a living..
It was all good fun between two good friends :)
Nice work. Also, I can see a map of a beautiful country Iran on the wall.
Nice work with Resin
Did she really just say that at the end 😯
Not very kind 😮
wonderful... excellent instructions and tips...Loved it and I learned what I wanted to know.. thank you for sharing..
Totally new to all this stuff. How does it stay secured solidly to the surfaces? I keep thinking if the tray was flipped over and tapped firmly, the resin would pop right out. Or a design on the wall like that, why wouldn't it pop off if hit? Thanks
Resin acts like a hard glue. You would have to really bang that thing on purpose to knock it out.
ArtResin adheres to mostly anything, except some plastics and silicone ( really anything that would repel water it will not stick to ). Once adhered it is nearly impossible to get it off.
All the pieces are beautiful. I'm just beginning and I love it so far. I subscribed and gave a thumbs up. Thank you so much!
Victoria Ciolek hi can yo7 please tell me what basic equipment do i need and where should I buy from xx
I love these tutorials. I wish you could link to the items used-like the trays, the panels, etc.
We are so happy to hear you enjoy the videos 🙂
Lovely video ,thank you,,did not quite hear the rough time for the semi cure,,did you say 4-6 hours please ?
Yolanda recommends letting the resin sit for about 15 minutes before blending it, just to let it thicken up a bit so that the design will keep its shape and the colours don't end up melding into each other. After pouring a wood panel, Yolanda suggested waiting 4-6 hours before removing the tape.
Wow love the items used too!
I love joann's piece... the first halfway dry and the final 😍😍😍
I love the blue shades as well in the guest's art... thank you soooo much for your tips. so new! researching! so happy I found this!
lots of #CaribbeanLove
These art great! Is it ok to not wear a respirator and how do you hang it? Could you please show the back before you hang it? Thank you, love the colors!
You can use any method you prefer with regard to hanging. You can purchase hanging hardware at any home improvement store or online. ArtResin is non-toxic and does not produce fumes, so if you use it in a well ventilated area a mask is not required. For more information, please have a look at our blog:

3. Does the heat gun eliminate bubbles, or just the torch
4. How long would an open bottle of resin and hardener last when used for a while? Thank you. Laura
Hi Laura,
You have 45 minutes of working time after you mix the Resin and Hardener together.
@@Artresin yes, that's wonderful information. Thanks so much. I appreciate it.
I use surgical gloves so I don't have the clumsiness. I also love working with resin.
Great video!
Both are great, I’m sure she didn’t mean it that way. We all make mistakes, all 3 are beautiful.
This is beautiful work, why not put both resin and the hardener in the same cup before mixing if it’s 1:1 ratio?
Hi Martin, You certainly can do that if it works better for you. The most important thing is just making sure you have exact equal measurements :)
ArtResin thank you for replying, great channel x
Simply beautiful! Can food be put directly on the tray? Also do the trays need to be prepared with anything before the pour? Thank you.
This did not need any additional prep work, we just made sure it was clean and dust free. As for food safety, if your colorant is food safe then yes they would be food safe as well. If not all you will need to do is apply another coat of clear ArtResin to seal in the piece and then it will become food safe :)
Please read our blog for more information: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/artresin-passes-food-safety-tests
I would love to see how you made the flow art wall hanging behind you. It is just acrylic pour coated with resin or was it entirely made with resin?
The whole piece is tinted resin, so a very similar process to this video :)
Very interesting video, especially for the beginner (like me!)
She makes it look so easy - how much tint do you use? Do you have to use ResinTint? Can I add glitter?
How do you clean the finished resin pieces once they’re hard cured?
We like to use a simple damp cloth, we actually like the microfiber ones and if needed a very mild cleaner will work. Think of it as cleaning glass :)
This is so wonderful! But how do we clean the spatula can you please advise? Thanks a lot 🥰🥰
You can use paper towel to wipe the spatula clean then spritz with isopropyl alcohol to remove any sticky residue. For more tips on how to clean up, have a look at our blog:
www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/how-to-clean-up-epoxy-resin
I notice the resin is thicker compared to others I've seen when you start pouring (I've seen lot of others really thin) is that the type of resin you use or just letting it sit before using
Kasha, It could be that your resin is slightly cold. During the winter months it does seem a little thicker. The ideal temperature for both your ArtResin and your workspace is slightly warmer than room temperature: 75-85F or 24-30C.
fabulous piece of art .great job
I enjoyed this video very much and got a lot of useful tips! One question...where did you buy the tray? Is it metal or wood that's been painted? I have a Hobby Lobby store near me that has something similar and I was wondering what the tray is made of.
The tray we used is metal and is from Ikea :) I am sure Hobby Lobby has a ton of options.
@@Artresin Thank you! Interestingly enough, I also have an IKEA about 20 min from me! Time for a drive!!
You can use a wooden tray as well. I actually made one with a melamine tray.
I love the plastic take out knife comment! I have plenty of those!
I find that if you pour the thinner one into the thicker one it is easier to get it all out of the cups.
That doesn't make sense lol !
Yes it does make sense. I know exactly what she's talking about.
Beautiful tutorial ❤️❤️❤️ pls how can I get the bubble stuff
Thanks for watching! In this video we are using our Artists Torch to clear off the bubbles. You can purchase the Artists Torch on our website: www.artresin.com/products/artists-torch-pro
Thank you for your video, love all the pieces!
I like to try my own piece soon..
I find mixing tedious. I just wanna get to the projects! Lol!
Don't we all? ;)
@@8swerve no because it will eventually harden once hardener is added
Disco Biker Barefoot Acrylics sir follow the rules
Beautiful pieces.
Is this safe to use on cups? And if so , dishwasher safe?
Yes :) Here is our blog on food safety for more information: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/artresin-is-food-safe-according-to-the-fda
ArtResin is heat resistant to 120 degrees F, so I would check your heat settings on your dishwasher.
I love this!!
Could I make this on a small canvas?
Yes! For sure you could!
This is something that I wanna try :D thanks for the video :D
Nice pieces. I’m going to try. Thanks so much!
What are the tints you use?
We are using our ResinTint - you can find them here : www.artresin.com/collections/artresin
Thank you so much! I loved this...I need the control factor..LOL I like going a little wild...I am so going to try this method! love the big piece on the wall it looks like Malachite! PS I liked both pieces...
"How do you know when the piece is done" remind me straight away of "Portrait of a lady on fire".
Did you add anything to make the cells? I didn't think just using resin and pigments would create cells. Thanks for sharing.
THE ONE IN THE TRAY LOOKS LIKE A NIGHT SKY IN WINTER OR A NIGHT SKY AT THE BEACH THANKS FOR SHARING
'Not as good as my piece'.......that's not cool to say especially when Joanna's piece looks more beautiful.
Have you ever added ashes of a lost loved one to create a special piece for someone? I’m BRAND NEW to your channel and everything crafty. But want to make special gifts for family members. What Beautiful work you do. 🥰❤️🌹❤️
Hi there, we are happy to have you as a subscriber! Thanks for tuning in. We have not incorporated ashes into ArtResin, however I do know many artists do create some beautiful memorial pieces this way.
Gorgeous! Will be attempting this very soon! How much resin did you use for the tray?
Great question! For this tray, Yolanda used about 200 ml total ( so 100 ml resin mixed with 100 ml of hardener ).
Best teaching video
Thanks!
