The S60 saloon has a lower seating position compared to an SUV, meaning the pasenger sits lower and is protected better. The A-pillar of the S60 also moves beneath the truck, unlike in a higher SUV where the A-pillar might make direct contact with the corner of the truck. I would like to see the Volvo XC60 and BMW X3 tested in a truck crash scenario.
XC60 and X3 are definitely the ones to test with the truck. You're right about SUVs being taller and more exposed here. However, the XC60 is supposed to be the safest in its class. Let's see how it goes!
That isn't the reason its better - the structure design is - Volvo started putting structures in Volvo platforms in the early 1990s (850 - Galaxy Project) to catch higher riding vehicles - this point is mentioned in the explanation of this crash test along w/ properly reinforced A-Pillars. Volvo and SAAB had been engineering very strong A-pillars for decades in response to Moose crash testing they had been doing and Volvo was one the 1st manufactures (if not the 1st) to learn to tool Boron Steel which they immediately applied w/ the 1st generation Volvo C70 convertible , 1998 model year, to allow its A-pillars to act as a very effective part of a front roll hoop. A higher riding vehicle such as a SUV with similar catch structures would arguably be easier to catch and deform in the rear crash structure of high riding trailer than a lower height Volvo S60 sedan.
I am from India. Thank you very much for these tests which no other NCAP organisation does. Do you have a website wherein I can read your analysis on all cars ? Also, you mention that the cars are tested by BQI. Could you please explain what does it mean ? Thank you so much once again.
I wish you do a test on old used cars too. Especially what I am riding. Volvo S80 2014 which was the one of the safest car in the world the year it was produced. I wonder will it still handle it well.
I think you should do the same test with a 1990s Volvo 850! To see how a "safe" 90s car compare to a new one! In this case the V60! from the same automaker!
Can you do a crash test of UAZ HUNTER EXPEDITION. It is very common in Mongolia, Siberia, Latin America and other countries as well. I believe this car has less crumple some but rigid structure. It will be a weird yet informative test of safety mechanisms. Thanks ☺️
the test is good for the lorry part and front crash test, but why isn't the secondary rear crash isn't sandwiched with front crash, why is it left empty
S60 really isn't very good. What I mean is that in this test, DCAR used IIHS's rating protocol, and the S60 only received an acceptable rating. Even the dummy in the back is at risk of injuring its left leg.
alfa romeo giulia got safety pick in IIHS date back to 2017, 2018 I remember, it is very impressive to reach that safety level on a car only weighs 1600kg car
Wow the fact that you were able to open and close the doors back on that s60 is amazing it shows how strong this car is
I love this channel testing the vehicles which reflect the actual road accidents scenerio
Very thorough and details
Keep up the good works 👍 👏
What a car, kudos to Volvo engineers👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Fantastic channel 👍🏻 warmest regards from 🇵🇱

Does the S60 use/share the same platform as the XC60(SPA platform)?

850 doesn't stand a single chance
@@jaleger2295 The 850 would be terrible in comparison, but it would be nice to see the improvements as the 850 was an excellent car back in the 90's.
@@jaleger2295 yes to see how a 1991 design will fail! In a modern test!

Got it, I think we might do more international car modes in the future test
Can you do new Mondeo? (China market)
Volvo xc90
Excellent work!

Expensive tests when need to destroy two cars at least !
yep, and we bought all the cars ourselves
Would have been nicer to test the s90 also
yeah, we ll try to do that
May i ask you why you testes S60 and not the XC60?

Now I'm even more impressed by Tesla.
Unglaublich Volvo ist beste 😂Auto . 😅 Ich überlege mich VW zu verlassen. 😅
Phaeton compared with the a8 of that year, the structure was specially strengthened.Unfortunately, not many people bought it and it was discontinued.
My Alfa Romeo 159 is also very strong. Too bad you don't have Italian cars to test.
