My current math teacher is probably one of the best math teachers there are, even amongst social media mathematicians who make sound guides. Alas, my teacher doesn’t make any video guides and have notes that are, for me, hard to follow. So the only way I can learn is by focusing in class which my absent and mathematically impaired mind is not too good at. I have to sporadically seek UA-cam guides as a result, lol.
Again, doing a better job explaining this than my math teacher. Left my math class today being totally confused, couldn't figure out the homework, came here, now it's game on for the homework!

@@ZOMBIE_NOTFOUND Bring the 2x term over to the left side by subtracting it from both sides. 5x² = 2x + 1 becomes 5x² - 2x = 1 Take the 5 out 5x² - 2x = 1 becomes 5(x² - (2/5)x) = 1 we can simplify this again by dividing both sides by 5 5(x² - (2/5)x) = 1 becomes x² - (2/5)x = 1/5 Now you have it in the form you want. Take the -2/5, half it and square it, then add to both sides. -2/5 halfed is -1/5. This -1/5 is the term we want inside the brackets. Squaring that gives (-1/5)^2 = 1/25. So add 1/25 to both sides. x² - (2/5)x = 1/5 x² - (2/5)x + 1/25 = 1/5 + 1/25 (x - 1/5)² = 1/5 + 1/25 We can simplify the right side by making them have a common denominator. 1/5 = 5/25. so 1/5 + 1/25 = 5/25 + 1/25 = 6/25 (x - 1/5)² = 1/5 + 1/25 (x - 1/5)² = 5/25 + 1/25 (x - 1/5)² = 6/25 Square root both sides. @@ZOMBIE_NOTFOUND Bring the 2x term over to the left side by subtracting it from both sides.
5x² = 2x + 1 becomes
5x² - 2x = 1
Take the 5 out
5x² - 2x = 1 becomes
5(x² - (2/5)x) = 1
we can simplify this again by dividing both sides by 5
5(x² - (2/5)x) = 1 becomes
x² - (2/5)x = 1/5
Now you have it in the form you want. Take the -2/5, half it and square it, then add to both sides. -2/5 halfed is -1/5. This -1/5 is the term we want inside the brackets. Squaring that gives (-1/5)^2 = 1/25. So add 1/25 to both sides.

We can simplify the right side by making them have a common denominator. 1/5 = 5/25. so 1/5 + 1/25 = 5/25 + 1/25 = 6/25
(x - 1/5)² = 1/5 + 1/25
(x - 1/5)² = 5/25 + 1/25
(x - 1/5)² = 6/25
Square root both sides.
(x - 1/5)² = 6/25
x - 1/5 = ± sqrt(6/25)
x - 1/5 = ± sqrt(6)/5
Add 1/5 to both sides
x - 1/5 = ± sqrt(6)/5
x = ± sqrt(6)/5 + 1/5
x = (± sqrt(6) + 1)/5
