This is a pretty inaccurate depiction of the gilded age. Standars Oil was broken up for having prices that were too 'low'. The 'progressive' era was the time when the existence of large businesses was thought as a positive.

''It was a secular religion''. Man people so unthinkingly use religion as a byword for something other people have enthusiasm for but they themselves don't agree with that they'll even flat out contradict themselves. This would be like if I called chronological snobbery nostalgia about the future.

To nobody who's even remotely sane would it even matter at all how much wealth someone *else* is making, all to concern yourself with is your own situation; anything else is the garbage of covetousness and is therefore to be completely rejected- either that or you end up becoming a thief, and wind up in prison, and fined every single cent you received *with interest* added to the fines in response to your own covetousness and the garbage that covetousness is.

Why is everyone talking about a mudflood or something connected to the Gilded Age? Or how the buildings of the period were so ridiculously extravagant that it would be seemingly impossible to construct them in such a short time?
    Any takers?
