I was very pleased with my original Mavic Pro for all my purposes, including aerial still photography and paid real estate video. But when the MA2 was announced with its extended range, vastly improved signal quality, and battery life I pulled the trigger on the Fly More Combo without hesitation. After a week of flying it, having resolved the battery bricking issue, I am simply astounded at what this little thing can do. Whereas the Mavic Pro would lose signal over water and scare the hell out of me, the MA2 is rock solid. I’ve also flown it around and under huge installations made of metal without missing a beat. The peace of mind that signal quality gives, combined with battery life of 30 minutes in windy real world conditions, is worth the switch alone. The only thing that hasn’t been too impressive is the purported 48 megapixel still image quality, which has a waxy, impressionistic quality to it. Being able to switch the gimbal to portrait orientation was also a very nice advantage to the Mavic Pro for shooting aerial stills, so for that I may just keep it around. But that’s a niggle that barely registers as a complaint given all that this machine is capable of.
Hello! I am just curious, is your job doing real estate photography, or is it just a side hustle that they commission you for. I am interested on doing the same thing, I just dont know how to get started.
Sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know a method to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot the login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
@Derek William thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I did an update that seemed to indicate a battery update. But after being fully up to date, my MA2 indeed had 4K quickshot capability as mentioned in Aldryn’s video.
I like your videos!!! Keep going. My Mavic Air 2 experience. I bought a USA version DJI Mavic Air 2 with Airsense (ADS-B receiver). It's a wonderful drone. Better camera than all other except P4P and MavicPro2. Right now I am oversears stationed at Latin American country. When the last upgade came in, my ADS-B receiver was decommissioned! I called local DJI representative and they told me that was right, they did it. DJI decommissioned all AirSense receivers around the wold (except USA) with this new update, even if you reverse de update it remains off. DJI took my ADS-B away in spite it was bought with it! UK and around the world users, be carefull if you buy a US version to use outside the country (US) thinking you have a capable ADS-B drone, you will end up without it...
Another well done video FlytPath. I always look forward to your posts. Too many UA-camrs waste the viewers time being cute or delaying getting to the point. I appreciate your ability to cram a lot of good info into each video. You respect your audience. Thank you. 👍
Excellent video. Very helpful. Very thorough and professional. You obviously know your drones. I appreciate your concise answers and information delivery. No wasted time. Very well done!
Not sure if anyone else mentioned this already. But you can adjust gimbal speed. If you gimbal control wheel partway through travel, it will rotate slower than if you rotate to the stop. Just go easy on gimbal control wheel for a slower rotation and set your double tap fn button to bring it up or down as fast as possible.
Great synopsis of the current (and future) features of the Mavic Air 2, Aldryn! I knew a lot of the answers, but there were a few that I was unaware of. Thanks!
Thanks for all the answers. I hope they will make the fly app a little more robust in future updates, but at least the flight characteristics are rock solid, so I'll settle for that right now. Excellent video :)
I am considering getting the Mavic Air 2 but I don't have a computer. Do I need a computer to upgrade the firmware or is there any way i can do it with my phone?
One thing I did notice that the gimbal speed does change depending on what mode you are in. Sport mode the gimbal will move faster, cine mode the gimbal will move slower which will help to get those nice smooth shots.
I really hope in Future updates they provide Control Sensitivity Settings for the sticks and the pitch wheel. Also, the Waypoints in Video mode and Sharpness Settings would be awesome.
Thank you for this video - timely and useful. I'm in the USA and, on my first use of the drone with ADS-B turned on, I almost immediately got an aircraft warning. Sure enough, 30 seconds later I could hear the craft nearby. However, 15 minutes later, a rescue helicopter appeared within 1500 feet of my location and started circling at under 250 feet. That gave no ADS-B warning, oddly. Second point would be that the 4k@60fps video, coded in h.265, is a real challenge for most computers to process. My 2016 vintage MacBook Pro can not handle it. That means using proxy editing in your edit suite.
Hello Aldryn, Wow, this video is jammed with a lot of answers to questions I seen and heard from friends. Thank you for putting together this jam-packed video, Nicely Done. Wishin you and your family a beautiful and safe Memorial Day Holiday, take care.
Gimble control is there if you move the wheel slowly: it moves slowly. If you move it fast, the gimble moves fast. It's the same with the control sticks.
Yo, Flytpath.. thx for the Q&A video on the Mavic Air 2. Very informative. By the way, you can do vertical shots on Mavic Air 2. However, it does on flip the gimbal camera orientation. It is software built. Where it takes 3 photos in session and you get one vertical shot similar to portrait mode.
Hello, I know that this video is a few months old, but I just got my Air 2 and a Smart Controller. I love it so far. My question is about the DJI Goggles. You mentioned that you can't use the goggles with the Air 2, but is there a workaround? Meaning, can you use the googles connected to the smart controller while flying the Air 2? Thanks!
You inspire me to produce tighter / cleaner videos ! Long time follower you have been a steady constant providing great content and make learning about this hobby fun ! Thank you 👍🙏🇨🇦 PS. Air-Sense is also available for Canada !
Good morning Aldryn, thank you for the Q&A. In your opinion, will it be possible to use the smart controller with the touchscreen gestures for the control of the gimbal, as in the phone/ tablet? Thank you, Tim
Another question on the manual "pointing" of the camera (drag finger on screen). Can I pan the camera to the left lets say 15 degrees, and then have it do a parallel Acutrak on a moving object with the 15 degree camera offset?? This would help keep the drone looking more forward (forward looking sensors) while the camera is looking to the left at the subject and tracking. Less chance of hitting something in front. In the normal parallel mode, doesn't the drone rotate and travel sideways? (no sensor help) Thanks, John
Hi beginner drone flyer here. Had a few questions if you or someone could help, *flying in the back yard today, the wind was very very light a sunny day. I have the Mavic Air 2, for some reason when i moved the stick to go forward against the wind it didn't want to go, it jerked and stopped beeping as if the sensors were telling it not to go forward but nothing was blocking it! It started to land its self go up and down as if it was trying to go over around or under an object. But again nothing was in front of it. When i put it in the air it flew straight ahead about 500 feet & up as i wanted but didn't obey the control to go left while it was in the air... *Also, i ordered two additional batterie, when i take them off the charging pad they make a noise as if they are sparking electricity is the best way i can describe the noise. I have a lipo guard bag i charge them in and am really worried about that sparking noise, even when i pick one up to test it it sounds like it shooting a spark. Actually made the sparing noise enough to here it from about 5-7 feet away from it once it landed *I apologize guys for being so winded here with a thousand questions, but Dji was closed at the time this happened🙂 Hey also wanted to say watching your videos before the drone was delivered following your vids Honestly dude i was able to go right the skies flying! Not a pro "yet" but thanks for your vids they really do help!
Great video as usual. Very informative. Do you know why the video that I shoot on the MA2 is degraded in quality when I post it on FB? Is there a way I can improve the video quality for posting on social media?
Great video. You are recommending ScanDisk Extreme PLUS MicroSDXC card. Right now I can buy SanDisc Extreme Pro even cheaper than the PLUS (both 256GB). Which should I buy, what is the difference? Thanks.
Ok. Another question. At around 1:12 in the video, you are demonstrating the Touch camera movement. The Freewell filters? Are they out yet? Did you cover them in a separate video or is that a “Coming soon” topic. Thanks again!
Great video. Can you advise please. Want to go for a apple mini 4 to go with my mavic, comes in WiFi or WiFi cellphone models. I know you said you do t need to but Is it better to pay more for the cellphone WiFi version what do you think.? Many thanks
Thanks for yet another great informational video. I was wondering if you've compared viewing devices on the Mavic Air 2 (e.g. iPhone 11 Pro Max vs iPad Mini version 5, etc.). I'm trying to increase in size like you did but I'm concerned about the brightness vs sunlight, etc. It seems like the iPhone 11 Pro Max has 770 nits of brightness while the iPad Mini 5 only has 500 nits. Any thoughts or opinions based on your trials would be most appreciated. Thanks again for such an informative channel and for all you do to keep the flying community informed.
Hi. Thank you for the video. I’m surprised that you didn’t mention the lack of advanced gimbal controls that are present in the DJI Fly app for the Mavic mini but not included for the Mavic Air 2. In your conversations with DJI did this topic ever come up?
Thanks for your quick reply. . 👌. I watched the entire video but my dog needed attention when you went over that part. I should have watched it again. As I just did. It’s different watching on a big screen. The timestamps aren’t shown. 😏. Thanks !
I have the original Mavic. Its working fine for me and for the applications I have. Would it be better to upgrade to this new drone or would the quality be on par with what I already own? I dont really need the 60p.
Hey Aldryn, really enjoying your Mavic Air 2 videos.I have a technical question for you: I am shooting mostly 4K 60fps, but for some videos I want the 'cinematic' look of 24fps. My question is, what are your thoughts of filming in 24fps vs. using your post production software to convert native 60fps footage down to 24fps? I'd rather not have to shoot things twice if I can achieve the same look by converting the frame rate of existing 60fps footage...
I fly a Hubsan Zino, Mavic Pro, and now my favorite drone, the Mavic Air 2. Still, I’m drawn to consider adding a Mavic Mini to my stable. But is that stepping down? I’d appreciate your thoughts. Thank you. Your fan, Cigar😷👍👍
IMO, it wouldn’t be a “downgrade” if you NEED the added portability, such as if you plan to travel a lot or shoot indoors. However, if you’re just buying it for the same purpose as your air 2 and other drones, I would say it is a downgrade in almost all aspects. Hope this helps.
Cigar Nation Warriors I could only ask “Why?” Between the 3 models you’ve mentioned what could you possibly get that you don’t already have. Maybe the 249 grams and not registering the drone, but otherwise...........
Hey... nice stuff. Could you address the issue of the iPhone automatically dimming - DRASTICALLY - to the point you can't see the screen after about 7-8 minutes flying. This is happening with my iPhone X and the Go Fly app. I've seen many posts about this issue. Apparently something with heat. Thx.
Great info in this episode, thank you. Is there a compatibility list for what tablets will work with the Mavic 2 Air? I have the iPad Air 2 and before I buy a bracket I would like to know if it is compatible. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the video. Very informative. On the Ipad you said that in order to use maps you need a phone connection? My Ipad does not have phone capabilities so are you saying I need to be able to use the Ipad as a phone to have the maps keep updating? I'm kinda confused on that. I currently have a Mavic Air and maps are a problem in some areas. Thanks Again!!
nice review can i ask if your mavic air 2 have a crack issue because nine have it i never crash my mavic air the crack of nine is in the right under arms in the connection
I’m picking up a air2 this week. Got a question in regards to your iPad setup. What is the mount you use and will I neeed to get a longer cable or will the kit one reach? Thanks mate. Great video
Very succinct and informative. You mentioned that one can fly without cellular connection but than you cannot use map. In DJI GO 4 app you could download off-line map before going to fly in areas with no cellular connection. Is this possible with Go Fly and Mavic Air 2? I could not find the off-line map function in Go Fly.
@@FlytPath Thank you for quick reply. Are you suggesting that detailed world maps are somehow cached in my mobile for DJI Fly off-line use? Seems unlikely. With DJI Go 4 I had to download a fragment of a map if I wanted to fly in an area where there was no cellular connection. This download was done from the app itself. Then, when I was flying, DJI Go 4 would use off-line map when there was no connection to the network. I did not try flying off-the-grid with Mavic Air 2 yet but I would be frankly shocked if map view would work if it was not downloaded first to my mobile somehow. And this capability is not present (or, at least, I cannot find it ) in DJI Fly.
I was very pleased with my original Mavic Pro for all my purposes, including aerial still photography and paid real estate video. But when the MA2 was announced with its extended range, vastly improved signal quality, and battery life I pulled the trigger on the Fly More Combo without hesitation.

I did it on my phone today
You can update through the phone DJI Fly App or on your computers using dji assistant.
Make sure you can download the fly app and not just the dji go 4 one. I couldnt use my s6 with it or my older iPad mini.
a lot of info! learned alot! thanks!

In DJI GO 4 app you could download off-line map before going to fly in areas with no cellular connection. Is this possible with Go Fly and Mavic Air 2? I could not find the off-line map function in Go Fly.
U can still use the maps, but with cellular they can be updated real time
@@FlytPath Thank you for quick reply.
Not for ma2 but i just want to ask what brand of otg cable do you use or recommend for spark to iphone. Thanks
