When my wife and I decided to get a puppy I researched pedigrees and what I read about Cavaliers convinced me this was the breed for us. Everything I read about Cavaliers is absolutely true. My pup requires huge amounts of love and attention. Having researched this breed we were well prepared and since we are both retired we spend most of our day with him. If we both have to leave the house he comes with us, Rarely do we have to leave him home alone and only for short periods. He’s 7 months old now and well traveled. We’ve taken him on vacation several times. One was a 10 hour drive with stops every two hours for exercise and potty break and he was a perfect gentleman and a wonderful travel companion. In the back of my mind I have concern for the breeds health issues. I say don’t dwell on what might happen but rather enjoy the love and affection this breed promises. We absolutely love our pup.

Yea they get like that. They’re like the energiser bunny with zoomies until they’re around two years old then they will start to become couch potatoes. I’ve had 4 of them over 20 years, two at a time. They have all done this, some worse than others. My 5 1/2 month old cavalier puppy is one of the worst for zoomies, but the one I had before her when she was a puppy was like an Olympic high jumper.
This is all very normal puppy behaviour for the breed.

We have already our 5th Cavalier. You can make them as crazy as you like. The best is to give him a few times p day some crazyness, but he also needs his time to rest. Cavaliers adapt very easy to the situation you give him. When you want him wild, he will be wild, but not good for the dog. When you want him relaxed you wil get him relaxed. What will be better for the dog his health. Good Luck with your Cavalier 😉🇳🇱🇳🇱

I lost my beloved Stella with 3,5 years 😭 she had Syringomyelia 😰😰😰😰 People, please buy only from breeders, who breed with healthy parent animals. Best examined by MRI. My Stella was in great pain. It was horrible. But this breed is so so sweet and so friendly ❤️

So sorry for your loss. The same thing happened to my boy at 3, just a few months ago it has been the most heartbreaking thing I have experienced. It is so unfair that the most beautiful dog breed can get such a cruel disease it is so important to get health checks from the puppies parents and go to a proper breeder. I’ve learnt the hard way 😞

I went to a local Petland just to see a Cav puppy they had which was adorable but they wanted $6400! It would seem all their puppies are born with inguinal hernias and therefore they were spayed/neutered during the "hernia repair". I found a reputable breeder near me who allowed us to tour the property and meet all their dogs who are family pets and live indoors.

We've got a Ruby n black n tan, we've had 7 in the family, amazing little dogs. Unfortunately some bad breeders out there, fortunately all ours made double figures 3 nearly 15 before we lost them and the 3 currently in the family are all very healthy. It's a must go to a recognised breeder we found ours in the UK Cavalier King Charles Spaniel club, the parents were screened for the conditions Cavvies can be prone to, the Dad was brought over to the UK from Germany to stud. The two pups didn't cost an arm or a leg either, it's just as economical to go to a top breeder as an amateur breeder. In fact the greeders at the moment are charging sky high prices for pups due to covid, me Dad got his dog from a excellent breeder in the Midlands who shows Cavaliers in the UK CKCS club for half the price some are charging on pets 4 homes. Sure you can more than likely get a really healthy dog outside of CKCS but for piece of mind we went to a breeder of over 30 years experience with a wide gene pool.
Cavaliers are like sticking plasters, my Black and Tan sits by the door when I take a shower, they are game for long walks really athletic little dogs, they are Spaniels of course, the nature of the Cavalier is sweet, gentle and loving, amazing family dogs, A lot of dog in a small package, best breed in the world in my humble opinion.

Our last cavalier had a heart problem. A eye problem, he became deaf as well but unfortunately it was a tumour that was the reason he died but he did last until he was 11. The vets didn't know why he suddenly became deaf while his eye was his own fault as he poked himself with something in the eye but despite the problems I don't regret getting him at all, he was the sweetest dog ever. He was so playful and cheeky, his on my profile pic. Thankfully the tumour got him quite suddenly so it was quite quick and it wasn't slow so he didn't suffer but it was still quite a shock for me and my family.

Wow can't get over the price of Cavaliers there. Here in N.Ireland mine cost 450 pounds. He was British kennel club registered. At 8 he has no health issues at all. Price seems to have doubled over the years maybe due to pandemic!! Winston is the image of my boy same markings and character. Strangely here in Ireland the black and tan seem to have less health issues. I love watching you hang out with your dogs and will be recommending your video's to my friends . I need the love and I love to give attention my mom has a Maltese but she's too sassy and barks a lot. And I'm not feeding him dog food. Rice, meat oats, veggies dogs can have, eggs, fish. My old girl had cancer I'm guessing it was the dog food.

Cavalier Spaniels should never be 20,30,or 50 lbs. The maximum is 18 according to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Handbook. The English Toy Spaniel is the smaller dog that is less than 15 lbs. who frequently looks like the Cavalier Spaniel. All Cavalier Spaniels are considered a toy breed dog by the American Kennel Club, which means that it will always be less than 20 lbs unless it is overweight.

@@KuroHinote grain free diets that are replaced with LEGUMES have been shown to link with development specifically of DCM. this research is still inconclusive to the actual cause of DCM, & is still being researched. Point is to avoid legumes/pea protein. not that ‘grains support healthy heart’. they believe potentially that the pea protein/legumes inhibits absorption of taurine but again- all of this is still under current research with no conclusive known cause for diet induced DCM.

    • @TrickStarz

    • @megangreene3955
      @megangreene3955 3 роки тому +4

No, there is a related breed called the English toy Spaniel who looks like the Cavalier Spaniel. Some of your facts are wrong about the size. Cavalier Spaniels are never supposed to get more than 18 lbs and 24inches long. They are a toy breed dog according to the American Kennel Club. If you have a dog who is 20,30 or 50 lbs. then the dog is either obese or not a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Get a copy of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Handbook. I got my information about the breed from it.

I have a ckcs, best breed hands down! But what he’s not making clear is that it’s cruel to get one of these dogs from anyone but a reputable breeder. With such a happy, loving all around sweet dog, why would you want to support bad breeders. Who’s breeding dogs that will have a life of suffering and pain. With a good breeder they test for heart issues, hips etc. the best breeders also mri their dogs before breeding to help the dogs they breed live long health and pain free life’s. Diet is also very important we signed a contract with out breeder to only feed him a raw meat diet with organic veg. We love him so much and buy him the best we can get. This is a expensive breed, they cost $ 3,500- $6,000+, than you have the vet bills and best quality food you can get. They can not be left alone and need a lot from their owners. I’m a home maker and my husband works from home, we also hike so he’s the prefect breed for us. Please don’t get one if you can’t afford a ethical breeder who’s helping make the breed healthier. Don’t support a puppy mill or these other breeders who don’t care about the quality of their dogs lives. Our dogs grandparents are in their late teens with no heat condition! His mom was only breed a max of three times every other year after the age of 4 and passing all the health screens (which the issues with their heart, skulls and hips etc is all genetic!)We have the mothers and his fathers health records. They’re literally trying with a group of other breeder to help make the breed healthier. Fingers crossed bc I couldn’t handle losing him or seeing him suffer. Also well worth the long wait and painful to pay price at the time, which we don’t even think about after getting him.

It’s so strange to hear you talk about how some cavaliers are “30,40,50” lbs (breed standard is 11-22lbs, there are no ‘toy version’ and ‘other versions’ they are a toy breed. with specific breed standards.) and then go on to talk about how grains promote a healthy heart (i’m assuming you’re referring to DCM prevention which 1. has no actual conclusive known cause and 2. you literally used quotations to describe an ingredient ‘ancient grains’ that you clearly don’t even know what those are or how if effects your dogs nutrition) ACTUAL heart-supporting foods with clinically supported data are raw goats milk (high in taurine), ubiquinol coq10 vitamins, and high dose of omega 3s. Just a little strange to hear someone talk so nonchalantly & uninformed. bc I promise ‘ancient grains’ aren’t preventing MVD or CHF. this could be misleading & confusing to potential cavalier owners to make a video offering advice, but that advice is not accurate 🥴 no hate intended, just maybe include in the description box some edits to what you talk about in the video.

Sorry I’m not an expert, these videos were made when I didn’t know as much as I do now. Thank you for your information!

My Cavie is much smaller than my first one was, she's fully grown at 9lbs and her breeder said that she was a 'petite' Cavie which is a subgroup of Cavie

“Toy” CKCS isn’t a thing. The AKC breed standard is 13-18lbs. It is the largest breed of the AKC toy group. Anyone who is intentionally breeding smaller than this is clearly doing it for profit not trying to better the breed. Underweight or overweight compared to the standard are both considered faults. These tiny CKCS are a response to people liking the look of the dog but not the size. But the size in the breed standard is reflective of what the breed should be, small enough to be a lap dog but big and sporty enough to join you on a trek through the woods or a big field without tiring out. A versatile companion. If someone wants a purse pet they should get a Pomeranian or a Yorkie. Just pick some other tiny breed that’s just for toting around. There’s plenty to chose from! Buying a CKCS from someone who breeds for small size is supporting for profit breeding and, if you love the breed, irresponsible.

@@mia-wy9bh no such thing as a “petite” cavalier. Maybe she’s petite for her breed but there’s no subgroup.
