I never realized how special Cavalier King Charles Spaniels were until I got one. Now she is without a doubt my best buddy. Loves to sit in my lap, follows me wherever I go and hates it when I leave the house and shes always the first to greet me at the door. :) They truly are a great breed of dog.

I'm glad you pointed out how stubborn Cavaliers are! They may be super cute and affectionate, but if you try to tell them to do anything they don't want to do, there's only going to be one winner and it's them 😂

Worst thing for me was when I lost her. News years day. Ten wonderful years I had with my little girl. Best thing was no matter what day I had she was always there waiting for me excited to see me everytime. Iv had a few different breeds before but the cav was just pure magic. I will give it some time and then I will be getting another one. Just a lovely breed. Life just isn't complete with out a pooch in it 🐕❤🌍

Can definitely relate! After the passing of our last one (unexpected heart attack at 5 years old). and a grief period of six lonely months, we now have our new girl. You never forget the others and honor them on their birthdays and the day you lost them. But, having another little soul who needs your love...and you needing theirs is a wonderful gift. Best wishes to you!

Daisy is such a daddy’s girl! You have beautiful affectionate dogs. I have 2, Missy and Waffle and I live for them both. I have severe depression and they just know when I’m struggling. I lost my Blenheim 2 years ago, she would have been 13 today. Thank you for this lovely video.

I suffer w/ clinical depression too. Lost my first Cavalier 5 years ago. After about 4 mos. in bed,and another 4 yrs. to learn that first one was a great gift, and another would never change that, I finally got another. I had told breeder I wanted two (from same litter if possible so they could entertain ea. other as well as me, instead of me having to entertain her.. Breeder happily took deposits for 2, but only produced one. Then she told me how many people were paying $500 just to get ahead in the waiting list ie..so if I wanted to pay more.... Big turnoff and I'm still looking to get my 500 back for the 2nd pup I never rec'd. The one I did get turned 1 week and a half ago and is a love, good (when SHE wants), and her 1/2 sister lives down st which is nice. Still looking for a brother but meanwhile she's my best buddy. No competition w/ my 1st- entirely her own dog tho' once in awhile she does something the 1st did & I just take it as a sign that she's watching over both of us now! These little dogs certainly are very precious!

@@goldencane2 I’m so happy you have another fur friend to love. Since my original post that you replied to, I too bought a new Blenheim . Martha. My illness isn’t too bad at the moment as I’m currently taking a new medication and seems to be working . Like yours , Martha is a little madam at times and I love her completely. She is such a happy girl and of course runs rings round the older 2. My older girl is nearly 12 and doing well, and then I have a middle one, at 6 years old. I couldn’t be without them. That breeder sounds horrible and breeds for the wrong reasons. I hope you soon find a little brother for your fur friend. My 3 are inseparable, all currently cuddled up together sleeping as it is quite cold here tonight. I wish you love and good luck. Julia x

@@J_Willis58 So nice to hear from you. Yes, she is my family. I was unable to have children which was devastating (only 1 reason for depression. My depression is clinical or biological (probably congenital - my mother was very very depressed & imposed it on whole family. I chose to get help and believe in meds strongly. I've been on same meds for decades. They are no suit of armor. But they allow one to deal w/ life. However what I call "situational" things can be catalysts. For me the holidays so that. But when I have my fave little furball curled up next to me when I don't want to come out from under the covers, it is reminder I'm alive and I must come out to walk her and take care of her. And that I actually am taking care of me by taking care of her! It's one kind of med. that can't be prescribed, can be described, but you must decide to do it to experience the happiness, the laughs, the snuggles, the dependence on you which makes you realize you have a reason for being, and just that overall sense of peace that comes when you see them fast content and asleep ( w/ the occasional snores - this Cavalier is a snorer! First, not so much. lol Both Blenheims but very definitely unique personalities that are gifts - to me, and everyone they enchant (which is everyone they meet! As they say, Cavaliers never meet a stranger. They give love freely, but know that home is with their special Mom or Dad.
      Wishing you Happy Holidays!

I was very lucky to have been around them through a close friend of mine to know what they are like before eventually getting mine this year. If anyone is considering getting one, but don’t know much about them it’s very important to first do your homework, they are definitely NOT like any other dog breed. But it was the best thing I ever did, and only reason I could is because of the pandemic I’m permanently working from home, because I knew you can’t leave them alone. They are wonderful little bundles of pure love 💙

Yes I agree with the commentary. I got a King Charles like 6 months ago. My boyfriend gave her to me. I love her so much I’ve had other dongs but they were not as attached to me. I didn’t think I’d like it but she keeps me warm, so affectionate, and lots of empathy when upsets. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Her name is cinnamon bun and they always try to steal her at the vets. She is awesome!

Spot on. I found it helps to have two cavalier king charles at the same time. They are literally love sponges. I always was a large dog type of person but found myself loving our CKC. You need to enjoy every moment of it as they have a short lifespan, which can be shortened even further if they have a heart issue.

I love this video. I just got my first Cavalier (Leo) in August as an anniversary gift/my daughter went to college and I was a bit sad without her here/ I work from home and needed a companion. And he has fulfilled everything I hoped for and more. He sits on my lap while I am working, he snuggles with us in bed, and I have a health condition that has me down sometimes and he is just so sweet and affectionate when I am having a hard day. He loves the sunshine so we go out regularly and I die a little when he smells flowers or chases butterflies. My husband and I got married 2 years ago and decided not to have more children together, but we joke that he is the baby we never had because he is more like a little person than a dog. Truly the best

Your video is spot on about the things a person needs to know though before they bring one of these loving dogs into there life and home! I'm so blessed that my granddaughters decided they didn't want their grandpa to be alone so when their dogs had puppies they wanted me to have one. I've been in households with dogs and shared caring for them but it's ALLOT different when it's just you doing everything and so suggestions and advise is appreciated for sure!! I have kept cavalier king Charles spaniels for over 30 year's. I wouldn't own any other breed. They are a lap dog, and constant companion. I've had 8 in my time never had one on its own. They love to give you love, and be loved and pampered. Be warned though, they have no road sense what so ever, always keep them on a lead, if walking out by traffic, as if they see something on the other side of the road, they will be gone, to investigate!

My girl was extremely easy to train. She did fetch on her own. She does need to be constantly held and picked up. Even when asleep. She will purposely refuse unless there’s a treat. Won’t go outside in the rain and sometimes fake a pee because she wants to run in fast for a meal. My girl is not afraid of anything. Not even traffic. I walked her as a puppy and large trucks didn’t even bother her. She will sleep on her bed at the door till I come home. Never moving for 7-8 hours. I would never want another breed.

Hi Ryan, I thought my dog wanted to be picked up to get on the bed and the sofa all the time too because she would whine to get on. I recently learned the reason she won't jump on and off the couch anymore is because she has a knee problem. Not saying that's the problem with your dog, but you may want to get her knees x-rayed.

But I have one and I definitely agree with what you said! They are definitely not dogs you can leave at home for long periods of time and they are very loving and my dog LOVES everyone and anything he will cry and bark and flip out when he can't do love and lick everyone he sees and smell all the dogs but he is also still a puppy (8 months)

We have a Black and Tan Cavalier King Charles. This is our second Cavalier. The first one was not bred well and he died at 7 from heart disease. We named him Windsor. Everyone heard Winston, so no big deal. Call him what you want. The one we have now is well bred and I did a lot of research before going to Dallas to pick him up. Yes, that was several states away from us, but they bred Cavaliers for dog shows. We named this one Churchill because I knew no one would forget that name. He hates cats, cars and boats. But, we take him anyway because he would rather be with us than at the Vet's office for boarding. He is so affectionate and loves our grown children, too. We take in cats and Churchill does not like him. God created dogs and then He must have said.....Let me create an animal that is opposite from a dog. Ha Ha. I love cats so much, too.

My cav actually escorts me to the door, when I want to leave for something. It's not that she loves being alone, but she's getting a treat she's only allowed to take when I'm leaving. So, she really wants me gone so she can eat it. She also was pretty easy to train, at least most things (some took years, like sniffing...). She just wanted to please and that makes all cavs easy to train. But because they want to please, they clown around as well...
Also, there's no dog greeting me when I get home... But, her hearing never was the best. And if she's sleeping... well... She won't wake up easily...
What I really experienced as being totally different from other dogs: My cav is so full of trust in the world. That there's nothing bad. That everyone just loves everyone else - because that's how she feels. Humans are the best, dogs coming in a long way after that on second place. (or, maybe third after food) I really have to take care to not let her endanger herself with her trust (moving cars? Growling dogs? Fast bycicles? you name it...). If something bad happens, you can just see how her world shatters. She's mostly quick to going back to what she was like before (1-2 weeks), but, yeah... But it also teaches you a lot. Her being friendly with just everyone and every dog, you just realize how far friendliness get's you. There's hardly any human (or dog!) that doesn't like her. She's having male dogs following her. She's having everyone giving her treats, bringing treats just for her etc. Just because she's friendly. (and yeah, I try not to fall for her ways too much and she knows.)
But, at least mommy's still the best. While she loves all humans, her own human still comes way before everyone else :)

Rubies are lovable but a bit silly and stubborn. Tri colours are crazy, adventurist and want to make you laugh.
But all of them steal your heart.
By far the best dogs on this planet.

I lost my corgi cross 9 1/2 years ago. It's only now that I am starting to consider the possibility of having another dog, we have four cats currently. Have been researching breeds and particularly looking for one that's good with cats. Have met Cavs in the past, and always just loved their affection, gentleness and they just have so much love to give. Started to fall in love with the breed… Then went to see some friends last week, and their friend had breeding cabbies. I always wanted to get an adult, and one of her breeders she may be retiring in about six months. So now I am thinking and praying about whether I should get another dog or not. Been thinking of the lifestyle we lead, we both work from home, we both live in a small town on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand, and we take walks a lot, go to the beach, go for car rides, go to the Arboretum about 40 minutes drive away where you can take your dog on a lead, all these sorts of things. So in other words if I did get a cab, that dog would never be left alone… Very rarely anyway. Because I do voluntary work outside the home, but my partner is pretty much always home, so if I'm not with doggy, then he will be. There are so many things to consider when getting a dog. So many practical issues, financial issues… It is a huge responsibility. But I know now that I definitely want a cab. And they are purported to be good with cats which is a bonus in our house. So yes… Thinking and praying about it and looking at my situation objectively and seeing whether it is feasible for me to get another dog. But the good thing is, for the first time in 9 1/2 years, I am ready in myself for it even if I decide that I'm not practically ready yet. What I do know is yes, I want an adult dog because that seems to work better for me and it has in the past, but I definitely want a cab. So thanks for this video, pretty much stuff I was already aware of. But I can definitely say… They will steal your heart. I haven't stopped thinking about this little dog I met last week. And wondering whether… When she is retired from breeding… She might end up with us! It would be so neat to do all the things we do and have a best friend by your side to share them with.

How do you suggest finding an expert, totally into the Cavalier King Charles 😊pups. I’ve raised one that ended up being sick or needing another surgery & so on. I loved her soooo much that it became heartbreaking. She was the best little precious friend & dog I’ve ever had. She was easy to train-never complained, loving I could go on & on. I’m ready to have another baby but have been trying for the last two months to try to talk myself into not getting a Cavalier. I don’t think I could ever have another breed. If I could have her back I would. I just have to make sure this one is from a reputable-TOTALLY reputable breeder. I now know my AddieRose was not. I’d really appreciate any help I can get. Thank you and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I've been watching my daughters 2 cavaliers (sisters) and they have been my shadow for the past week. They've very good but they do want us to pick them up all the time, which I'm reluctant to do since I have significant balance and nerve issues. They're good size pups and are used to being picked up all the time. Gorgeous pups but totally untrained and spoiled rotten. Not leash trained at all- I almost killed myself trying to take them for a walk...So many smells!! So many dogs! So many people! They were like 2 toddlers that had been locked up for 2 years and were suddenly let loose in a playground...

I’m thinking of getting one. I have spina bifida, so long walks are out. But I do have a big fenced in back yard and I can do indoor activities. I’m looking into a cavalier as an emotional support pet. I’ve had an American cocker spaniel previously, but I thought someone smaller for me would be better. I don’t mind brushing as long as the puppy doesn’t. Bentley didn’t like to be brushed, but he always seemed happiest when he was groomed. I don’t have a problem being around them all the time. I wouldn’t want to leave him/her alone. Can anyone give me any tips visa vie what to look for in a groomer or a specific gender or variety of cavalier King Charles? I’ve heard males are better lap dogs and, like humans (lol), the girls tend to be more independent and have you figured out in a second. The boys are more codependent from what I understand. What should I look for so I don’t get conned by a breeder? Thanks!

Our female is the most affectionate so no hard and fast rules. You can groom them yourself if you buy the equipment and there's a helpful video on doing a natural groom. I use thinning scissors a lot. If you have the time to play with and groom them they could be the perfect dog for you. They don't demand a lot of exercise. If they fetch it's helpful for exercise.

If you are considering this beautiful breed then insurance is a must because 99% of all cavaliers are effected by mitral valve disease. The most important thing is to buy from a breeder that tests the parents and grandparents.. the breeders need to give you medical proof that testing has been done. They also suffer from ciari malformation (brain to big for skull) this is my breed of choice but you need to be aware of the severity of their illnesses. Norway has banned any breeding of cavaliers for this reason calling it cruelty to the breed.

Does have more then one help when your are gone? I really love the breed but I work a long, but I already have a pug. He does okay with me being gone, but in the future I think a buddy would help him. My only fear is how well they travel on planes because for my job I do sometimes move countries. It's already a pain with my pug. I'm worried about the logistics of having two dogs that would be pain to transports.

I am looking to get a puppy within the next year or two and I am struggling to decide which breed to get. I would like a dog that can adapt to my lifestyle (I have limited mobility) and can get along with my 3 cats.
    Would you recommend a Cavalier?

#6 they want to lick you constantly, keep your mouth closed if you're holding them🫢
#7 they can think they are mountain goats and somehow manage to climb up on top of a grand piano. But how I love them!
