I love salvia, when I’m rolling around on the ground foaming from the mouth and screaming at the machine elves to bring me back my microwave oven, it really makes me appreciate the true beauty of nature

I’ve paired the blue salvias with white cascading petunias in the summer and then replanted the salvia in the ground in the fall. I’ve had so many people stop and look. ♥️♥️♥️♥️ salvia is my absolute favorite!!! Now I think I need the white!

These are perfect and work great on my balcony, actually. It requires very little care, can be left out in absolute full, blasting sun, and its blooms really do attract birds and bees; makes me feel less trapped in an apartment, and more like I have nature around me.

Salvias are amazing. There are so many different forms. I just received my order of $230 worth from Flowers By The Sea. I’m planting them around outside of the garden fence because the deer and the goats do t eat them. The goats will prune them in early Autumn when there is no more grass. Perfect timing.

I LOVE salvia! I've always loved it! It's such a reliable perennial and even before all the colors & sizes that they're available in now, the "regular" or more "familiar" salvias were great for color and setting off other colors & shapes of perennials. I'm loving these new ones & would love to have both the icy blue and the pink in some areas of my lawn! I had a huge, troublesome maple tree removed from my backyard and what wonders followed! My Japanese Maple is finally getting the light that it's always needed. One of my perennial beds that's across the back of my house had really been pitiful without the sun those plants were starved for. Now, my Zephirine Drouhin climbing roses are blooming beautifully and my irises & peonies are making a better comeback than I ever imagined they would! Some of those salvias, along with a few other new additions, will make that area look as good as, if not better than, it did before that old maple! I love Spring!
Laura, your new salvias look great where you put them, especially, the icy blue ones at the chicken run! Thanks for sharing these wonderful plants with us!🌾💜

P.S. WHEN was the chicken run, etc. finished and HOW did I miss it? Does anyone have info on which video shows us the finished area? PLEASE! I've really looked forward to seeing it & didn't realize it was complete until I saw the chickens in a corner of the run on this video! I REALLY appreciate all info concerning this. 🐔❤🐓

I love salvia! My HOA was haven't a hard time getting anything to work in my front yard garden. Everything died. Plus, way to much ground showing. I bought a 6 Pak of salvias and they planted it along the sidewalk and it's doing FANTASTIC. People stop by and all about it. In addition to all the pollinators Laura mentioned, BUMBLEBEES and wasps also love it!
Still allergic and afraid of wasps, but I'm learning to appreciate them for all the good they do in the garden. 💐🐝

I'm getting me some Salvia for my yard, you sold me Laura, they are so pretty and I love that they are hardy, the ones planted by the chicken coop are such a lovely shade of purple, and the chickens are so adorable! Love the last Salvias, such a stunning shade, I just love them all, I think I might have to get one of each. Thank you so much for this video I got a lot of inspiration on some areas of my yard that these would be perfect for. See you again, bye for now.

... it's as you say -- for new gardeners especially -- you can't go wrong with salvia! It can take the glaring sun; is fairly drought-tolerant; and it is a great pollinator magnet! These specimen plants are quite outstanding in their size! I want them all!

The Salvia is so beautiful. This is when I live vicariously. The condo dweller here. I long for a backyard garden and viewing the flowers growing in your garden just takes me away. In the meanwhile, I am compiling a notebook full of your tips and the kinds of flowers and plants I want growing in my garden. (I am adding Salvia into the notebook) You still don't talk about herbs much and I am very interested in that. Especially the herbs you can grow on your patio or kitchen window. I think the Perfect Profusion and the Indigo girl Salvias look good together. They lend a beautiful pop of color when blended together. The Pink Profusions are, of course, beautiful too.

The gardens and flowers you have are beautiful! I cannot have anything that is pollen producing. Between my dad, husband, children and grandchildren ( or should I say thier allergies!), I cannot have anything that may add to thier breathing and asthma problems! I love watching ppl that have beautiful flowers!
I do integrate marigolds into my vegetable garden, spreading them around between the row ends and certain veggies! They attract butterflies, honey bees and keep snakes away!
I may check salvia out to see if there are any allergy producing pollens that they give off that would hinder my family. If not, I know one more I can add!
    Thank You for sharing!

I love my salvias! They definitely are a hardy, easy to care for plant, and great for beginners and bees! I bought one of my first ones on clearance in the Fall years ago. I felt bad for the poor thing because it looked so bad. I said, "I'll take you home and take care of you." That one plant has paid me back by having lots of babies that I have transplanted to other areas! And it is very true that deer and bunnies leave them alone, as we have both that pass through our property. The only thing I've ever had trouble with is slugs, but those are easily taken care of with a couple shakes of granule slug bait.

Thank you! I just started watching you a couple wks ago, and I caught a new video from you! I love Salvia! They are so hardy in Southern California, but it was nice to learn about them some more. I'm sure my nursery told me, but I needed to hear again.
I have an apartment in the Santa Monica area in Brentwood, and the balcony is a good size for this area (a little longer than two full size beds back to back), so I'm trying. I loved what you said in your other video with the sheet metal containers and when things are raised up higher it changes the zone. I'm on the second floor and my balcony gets a lot of wind at times, esp in the winter. I loved the other vid with the container under the tree and the perennials in the shaded area with the watering system (big green, dark mahogany, dusty miller???).
I had a car accident 6 yrs ago (a speeder hit me), and It's painful to walk, as I lug 2 gallon containers to the balcony about 7 times and then lift the 5 gallon plants with the slide water catch trays, etc. It would take most 20 mins, but me it takes two hours. Some very beautiful containers with perennials that are easy care, and soothing for the handicapped would be great!
I feed my plants, and give them vitamins, but easy is nice. I have three 5 gallon star jasmine bushes among other things. I have a walker and both hips bone on bone, and can't have surgery, and I BET THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE ME and no one has done a vid for us! I wake up and open the blinds and just look and look at the flowers, sometimes for hours if it's a high pain day. It's so healing! I truly believe the beauty of plants and flowers heals the mind for those of us who can't get out everyday, it is so good for us to even look out our balcony window! Thanks so much for your videos

I saw that neat trick of unpotting the flower, putting the dirt from the hole into the pot, plant, and pour the dirt right around the new roots in the hole from the pot. You probably went through that trick in another show. Just an expert trick that I did not ever think of doing. I always put the dirt on the ground and it is not as neat or tidy. Thanks!

Jake- I agree, that is why I plant perenials. My gardens are a variety of leaf shapes and colors because that is what you see the most. Love the flowers too but I rarely buy something unless I also like how it looks before and after blooming. Have a large variety of hostas, several heuchera, golden lady's mantel, daylillies and peony. Not everyone thinks peony is pretty unless it is blooming but I think the fullness of the leaves is attractive, especially with a colorful heuchera or two near the base.

You could just leave the pruning of the ornamental cherry to Aaron, he has quite the knack to pruning weeping trees 😉😂
    Bless him 😂😂😂

I was curious about how well they will bush out in the summer since the salvia grow best in full sun but it looks so tiny, it shouldn't be a problem.

Jake he once cut back Laura’s weeping willow without her knowing and she had a heart attack. He said it got in his way when he mowed the lawn 😂😂

@@kristyplotecki1862 , I remember. I know you were kidding but I was genuinely curious about how much shade that would cast over the salvia.

What a fun video, to see the different colors as well as the different places you used them in the garden. My morning is complete as I had my coffee with Laura and have good ideas to share at work as we look at redoing areas of the playground!! Thanks so much for the information!!

Hi Laura and Aaron! Beautiful salvias! I've had purple and pink salvias for years, but may need to add some of these colors, too. Mine get morning sun and are thriving. I really like them. Thank you for sharing! It was fun getting a glimpse of the chicks and Russel. Cute cherry emoji, too! Thank you for sharing!

Laura, have you thought about Hemerocallis 'happy returns'. It is one of my favourites. Long blooming, soft yellow and not too big.

I bought a potted salvia plant maybe a year ago, and just a few weeks ago it went from blooming it's first flower, to going black (I let it get too dry for too long), and now it's turning green again very quickly :-) It's one tough plant!
