Would it be possible to have these numbers not as geometry but as screenspace gizmos? Or is this too specific for hda's?
Nah, currently the hengine doesn't support drawing unreal gizmos. Though they did launch the public api to unreal hengine, so you can easily access the hengine in c++ and blueprints and in editor utility widgets...so might be possible now.
