Why buy a used trombone?!?

- All the instruments I own are professional model trombones that I purchased for much less than new ones and in a couple cases less than half the cost of a new one. They are in great to near perfect condition.
Got my Bass for $1,500 used from a college professor that didn’t get much use out of it. Fortunately for me, he wanted only what he got it for and that was $1,500.
That’s the way to do it!!
@@LowBrassLuke it ended up getting me first chair in All District in North Carolina. So the investment overall worth it. (Bach 50B bell with Besson Hagmann aftermarket valves).
And when they do buy new, they end up with some ebay/amazon instrument made in India or China. Buy used! I say that everytime
I'm a horn player not a trombonist, but I play a vintage, 60s era Alexander 103. Not only did it cost me £3,500 instead of over £10k, it also is made with different brass that gives it a much darker and richer sound which I prefer.
That’s awesome. There are definitely vintage instruments that were made from brass that’s not available today. Lots of players search for those vintage instruments. I like a lot of older Yamaha trombones because they were made differently and have a thickness to the sound that some more modern horns don’t always have.
@@LowBrassLuke it's primarily the presence of lead in the brass that gives this one it's sound, plus a hand hammered bell which is no longer a standard feature. When Yamaha got commissioned to make some Vienna horns, they actually had to start adding lead back into the brass to match the sound of the older instruments they were basing their designs off of
Do you have a source for the claim about Yamaha and the Vienna horns? I'm curious as to if there is anywhere to read more about it
@@brettclark4096 I'm afraid it was told to me when I was in Paxmans, one of the big horn shops and manufacturers in the UK. From what they said, it was done to replicate the older style of instruments. They would contain lead as an impurity simply because it was hard to remove. As refining processes got better, there stopped being lead present but I was told that Yamaha added it back in to some of their vinnea horns. My 103 also contains lead because of its age.
I got my Bach 42 from 1990-1994 for 400$, and about under 600$ total after repairing it and purchasing a mouthpiece. I also found a Bach 36 for 150, fully functional with a mouthpiece, case, and slide cleaner.
When I started out my dad bought a used trombone from a guy on Facebook for $150. It still works really well.

I got my trombone new, but the music store I got it from was closing down, so booooy was it a bargain.

Where are you getting yours from?
There are lots of places. I’ll make a video talking about all of the places where you can find used horns but some of the common ones are Facebook marketplace, eBay, and reverb. You can also look at stores such as Dillon Music, Brass Ark and Brass Exchange.
Is that a Xeno 20th anniversary?
It is. One of my favorite horns.
@@LowBrassLuke I love my 882O! How does it play compared to a normal 882O? It would be nice to get my hands on a 20th anniversary someday.
@@ajisai1 it has a gold brass main tuning slide as well as a wide hand slide unlike the narrower one on the 8820. To me it has a slightly richer and wider tone. Really a great horn.
