- Rocky II (1979) Filming Locations of Philadelphia. NEVER SEEN BEFORE ROCKY movie locations tour in 2022. I went the distance in 2020 by tracking down the locations for the original Rocky (1976) and now… I’m back for the rematch! I had a little less than 24 hours to pull this one off, but I’ve going the distance once again!

It was a very quick weekend, I had a little less than 48 hours in Philly and barely slept a wink, but I had one heck of a great time creating this video! This one was at the top of my list to create and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to return to Philadelphia and track down (and go the distance) .. these locations. Great video and extensive as always. Quick question for you - clearly the area seems rather interesting to say the least. Outside of comments of what are you doing? Did you have anything physical happen to you? I wanna go there and these locations for myself. I already know it's a different part of the country. I'm also trying to find a smaller camera so I wouldn't draw too much attention towards me. I have a GoPro but maybe there's something smaller on the market. If you know of any please let me know. I lived in an area called Girard Estates which was right around the corner from Lambert Street. I was 8 years old and I heard Rocky 2 was filming. During that stick ball scene, I was off camera in the distance along with a lot of other people who showed up to watch. If I recall, Sly was very generous with his time, saying hello to everyone. I took pictures that day and I know I have them but it's just a matter of digging through the old albums! Thanks for you video, great work.

As a native of Philadelphia, I was even impressed with how much you put into this video TJ as well as the great job you did on the original Rocky two years ago. That neighborhood where Rocky lived is a lot rougher than when you were there the first time, so glad you got the footage you needed and got out of there. By the way, the interior of the church where Rocky and Adrian's wedding took place was actually in Los Angeles. at the old St. Joseph's Catholic Church which stood at 218 E 12th in the downtown area. A lot of people thought it was in Philly since the exterior was shot there including myself until I saw an old photo and it matched up. The church burnt down in 1983 after an electrical short in the wiring under the floorboards. A new church was built in it's place.

THAT was really cool! PLEASE...tell us that you went into Independence Hall!!!! This would have been a great opportunity for you to do a two-fer like you did with the Godfather and Ghostbusters II filming. That is if you ever wanted to do a National Treasure filming location video! Work your way up the seaboard. Also beginning to think you need to "hire" some security with these places. No electricity today in Kyiv, but i still have 50% on my phone, and i'm glad i've bumped on to this video!
I and a friend of mine were among the kids that were picked out from the Italian market and brought over to the parkway to shoot the final run sequence up the steps. We did about 22 takes running behind Sly toward the art museum. He kept stopping and having to yell cut because the kids up front kept running too fast and were passing him. He was upset after the 3rd or 4th take of having to stop because the kids wouldn't listen to his direction. Me and my friend were among the kids in the very back but it was a fun day. Celebrated later on with a delicious Geno's cheesesteak and cannolis from termini bakery.
Btw, the Wells Fargo Center and the Philadelphia spectrum were on two separate plots of land about 300 yards from one another. The spectrum was located to the north of where the Wells Fargo Center now sits. Directly left of the Xfinity bar complex but on the same plot of land. Directly across the street was veterans stadium further to the north. The Wells Fargo arena currently sits at the Northern end of what was once JFK stadium where live aid took place. Also home to the Army-Navy games for decades.

Tampa Jay, great job on the filming locations. Born and raised in Philly I know all about the Kensington neighborhoods, back in the day I use to live in Kensington. Im glad to see you made it out ok .... I know Kensington Ave is not what it use to be .... I can remember back in the day driving to work while they were filming Rocky 3. Fun fact my mother almost had a part in one of the Rocky movies, I wanna say #5. Hey Jay great video and welcome to Philly! The Spectrum and The Wells Fargo center actually existed at the same time. Once the Center was built the spectrum was used for concerts and minor league sports. Xfinity Live is now in the foot print of the old spectrum and actually has some old statues that used to sit outside the spectrum. Hope you enjoyed your time in Philly. Come back to Citizens bank great spot to catch a ballgame.

Well done Jay! That was a great sequel to your spectacular Rocky I filming locations video. I'm so glad you did this. I've made two trips to Philly myself for Rocky filming locations. The first was in 10/19 for Rocky I and the second was for Rocky Balboa in 10/21. Like yourself, I noticed how much worse the neighborhood around Rocky's apartment has become. Not that it was ever good to begin with, but the second time I went I felt so unsafe I drove right past Rocky's apartment and didn't bother to get out of my car. The same for little Marie's Rocky Balboa apartment. I didn't feel safe enough to stop and couldn't get out of the area fast enough. I've decided any future trips I make to Philly will primarily focus on running the Rocky steps and I will stay out of the hood. Thank you for your videos. Keep up the good work!

The fights were the LA Sports Arena which was right next to the Coliseum. It’s been torn down and replaced by the soccer stadium for LA FC

I really enjoyed your video it was really cool you being up there checking out all the locations of Rocky 2 especially seeing the Rocky statue I always wanted to be able to see that one day and I liked the fact that you made this a long video showing as much of the locations that you did. Great job on the editing and all the hard work it takes to put these videos out and the Ninja Turtles on the wall was awesome as well and I like that you did the Rocky run as well that's definitely a dream come true to do.

I remember seeing the Rocky Statue for the first time.It use to sit outside the Philadelphia Spectrum. As a kid,we would climb up the statue and sit on the top of the statue.When the 76ers won the world championship, someone put a 76ers championship t-shirt on the statue.lol 👍Rocky Forever !!!!

Absolutely brilliant, what a cracking video again. I think I've mentioned this on one of your other videos but the camera depth of field can really mess with us when doing these filming locations. I'll never forget doing the Jaws locations and being shocked at how narrow the entrance to the estuary is on Martha's Vineyard, yet in Jaws during the 4th of July scenes it looks really wide.

Excellent point you brought up about Sly's pec tear. He tore his pec training for Rocky 2 and had to change the entire film so that Mickey had him fight right handed to supposedly protect Rocky's bad eye, but in reality it was so he would be jabbing with his left hand as he couldn't move his right after the pec tear. Everyone thought the shoot would have to be cancelled after the injury but Sly had the will(and writing ability) to make it work.
Man I used to love the Flyers back in the 80s during the time they played at the Spectrum. They had a nice rivalry with the Oilers going too.

Man what a great video as usual. Thanks for the tour. I'm so mad at myself about right now. I was in Philly for a convention in 2014 for a week and didn't go looking for these locations. I did run the steps and saw statue. Was at liberty hall to in the back and didn't realize they filmed there. Thanks for braving the locales. Again, great job. I wanna go back.
