yeah, hit me that it's just mind set that is the difference when it comes to obtaining the edge, that getting confidence from wherever is just vital to the entire picture, as in being on top and at your best
Very likely. Some of the 80s were still a mixed time in cinema, it wasn't all heros, guns and flag waving. You had films like Wittness, Platoon and Born on the 4th July which were brutally honest about how horrific violence can be, the physical and mental damage a gun can cause. It wasn't like the old war movies where the heroes couldn't die and getting shot was just an instant painless death with just a drop of blood making it past the censors. Or An Officer and a Gentleman which doesn't glamorise life in the military, its main character and his weaknesses. First Blood is as much about the trauma of violence and PTSD as it is Rambo kicking ass. Then though you also have films like Top Gun, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Die Hard which i dearly love too, much more about the excitement, fun and thrills an action film can give you. The USA spent most of the 70s coming to terms with the shattered loss of confidence over Vietnam, Watergate, Stagnation, great social upheaval, the Iran 79 revolution, bad times.... It wasn't really till the mid to late 80s it had properly recovered its confidence.

@@SalemGhassanHanna I think we’re forgetting that the 80’s was *the* era of the synthesiser, both have their place. We wouldn’t have any of John Carpenter’s excellent soundtracks to his films without synth.
