With his knowing farewell look straight at the camera, and he whispers "I still love you" as the song ends. That last part where Freddie looks down and that coy smile, its like he's holding back his tears, you can see it on his face.
With that smile is telling us good bye. Such a beatiful goodbye.
This was his last appearance and his last ever words in front of the camera.

@@edwardkent Nobody's saying he was a saint, and it's really beside the point. But yes, actually I do think he was hardworking and brave. He was a perfectionist and worked till he was exhausted to get it right... good artists and entertainers do that. Freddie was 45 when he died in 1991. The Queen lineup was finalized in 1971 when bass player John Deacon joined, Freddie, drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May. This was the lineup for 20 years from 1971 until Freddie died in 1991. They released their first album in '73 and their last with Freddie in 1991 called Innuendo. Roger, Brian and John then put out the 1995 album Made in Heaven with vocal and music recordings Freddie left behind.

love your reactions. I love how Freddie just wore his heart on his sleeves and his waistcoat for this video, that he expressed that not only was he a superb artist, but also what a loving person he was. Though he didn't have any children of his own, he loved cats and was such a devoted cat daddy any animal lover would be proud of. The vest he's wearing has pictures of his beloved fur babies. I notice that Brian, Roger and John are doing their best to keep a stiff upper lip also. Imagine how that must of ate at them inside. Again, I highly recommend you watch next "no one but you, only the good die young." a tribute song Brian, Roger and John wrote some years after Freddie's death to show that he was really like a brother to them, not just their frontman. also, really look at their faces, and listen to their voices; their sorrow is clear and they are doing all they can to keep it together and not break down crying. (not that I'd blame them if they did)

I agree, it's not really that Freddie looked so much thinner here just by seeing him fully clothed...especially since from his younger days with Queen wearing all those skin tight 70s clothes, he'd always been thin. I think it was mainly the difference between his appearance in Queen's last couple of videos and when most fans had last seen him publicly performing with the band in the mid-80s as he'd gotten a bit more muscular by then. So, by contrast in the videos for I'm Going Slightly Mad and this one, he looked gaunt compared to the Live Aid and Wembley eras. Also, during the filming of this video he was visibly having some trouble moving, was walking with a limp. He needed special-tailored clothing with extra soft linings sown in because it was painful for fabrics to touch his skin. But that's something you can only see in BTS footage or read about and hear accounts of. Regardless, Freddie was a professional through and through, and was totally "on" while the cameras were rolling....the consummate performer....extremely strong and steel-willed. He even lived longer than his doctors predicted he would....and that fabulous voice of his never faltered. He was determined to work and get those last songs recorded no matter what it took, and he did as much as he possibly could. A good friend of my family's died of AIDS earlier the same year as Freddie, so having personally watched someone go through the struggle with that dreadful disease, it never fails to amaze me how much Freddie was able to accomplish while being that sick if from nothing but sheer will. He wouldn't let it take him without one helluva fight. Well, he was a former boxer and I've heard not the kind to throw in the towel, so I guess it really shouldn't be so surprising. RIP, Legend.

I saw Queen in Seattle when I was 17 and I remember every moment of it. I’ve been to many concerts from then to now but *none* of them have even come close. His voice honestly sounded incredible on the track, reaching the high notes with intensity and power. Far from gone. Niashe if simply cannot agree. Thinner, maybe, but I would certainly not use the word weak. It is the same tone he had throughout most of the tracks on ‘Innuendo’ and the reason you think it sounds “weak” is because he isn’t pushing his voice to reach the ultra high notes. Listen to the song ‘A Winters Tale’ or ‘Mother Love’ which were recorded well after this track, and you will that he still had all of his range, power, clarity that he had throughout his whole career, and because he had stopped smoking almost entirely, his tone had cleared up to the point where his voice had reverted back to more or less sounded like it had in the early 70s.

It was filmed in Feb while this one here was in May.
I love the words of IGSM and feel it's Freddie saying, it's finally happened (I'm not going to be saved) and waiting for it to actually happen (along with mental effects of the illness) was truly maddening. BUT even moreso, I feel it was for his band mates to help them not feel guilty or bad. When he bends down for Roger to bop him on the head like 'you idiot, look what you've done' . He was saying, yes I did this. And the last scene when he's sitting up with the daffodil and looks over, its like he's watching his buddies from beyond.

Could be wrong but to me he actually looks free in that video, his smile looks so genuinely happy, fun in his eyes, almost as though he's been released, and the closeness of the group shines through...I know he was ill but I love seeing that video and hearing what is one of my favourite Queen songs

@@barberasredhair9720 so good post. YES IGSM is a major favorite of mine. I agree he looks relieved. I think it was his gift to his bandmates, a good-bye to them and FOR them helping them not feel bad or guilty (a strange phenomenon that happens when close ones die) through the whole thing he's chatty about being more than half way there or even oops it happened. He takes on full responsibilty (bends down so Roger can bonk him - waiting until he does so) and like a cat wants attention from Brian. Endless possibilities 💕💕💕
Oops I repeat myself - sorry everyone

I get a lump in my throat every time Freddy looks up there and says, 'I still love you'. His connection with those who respected and loved him was/is special. For a man who knows that these will be his farewell lyrics..... that's atonishing.
Not because he says, 'I still love you'. artists do that all the time. In Freddie's case we can trust that he truly meant them.

He's saying goodbye to us all in a lovely way😢If I'm not mistaken they started 1970 so they were around 24 and in this video ca. 45 yo 😌 PS: Maybe you can react to "Heaven For Everyone", Mother Love" and "Let Me Live" ? They were released 1995 (after his death) and they are so powerful and amazing!

Roger Taylor wrote that song for his children, but Freddie made it his own, as he did with every song Queen wrote. Fred was actually quite ill when he recorded this song and his vocals were not as strong as usual, and he was weak and tired, ravaged by the disease he contacted in the 80's, they think? Before they knew about safe sex practices, Freddie loved everyone he could, because I believe he was denied love and affection from his family. He was separated from them at a very early age to go to boarding school, so I believe he craved those things, which led to his lascivious illness and death. He still had songs in his head when he died, and the band never got them out! He lived and loved on his own terms, and was a savant!
Besides singing, he did drawings and painting, was very well read, and played guitar and piano. At a very early age he had only to hear something once and he could sit at the piano and play it through perfectly, according to his mom. His love for music spanned almost all genres, hence the unique sound of Bohemian Rhapsody, as well as others. He was incredibly strong and brave through his illness, and kept it secret from everyone for a very long time.
He thought of Mary as his common-law wife and he loved her, and Jim Hutton, but he loved his cats the very most! Mr. Mercury loved LIFE!! He is music personified. His flame and his legend will never go out! Freddie was certainly a Global treasure and he died far too soon!
You should watch the movie. Rami Malek is scary good, and the resemblance fooled the band! They say there were times when they thought he WAS Freddie!

Knowing the story behind this, that Roger wrote the song about his life, family, and children, but let Freddie use it as his goodbye song=tear jerker. And that guitar riff is like a melancholy tune heard long ago. That's the part that breaks my heart. By this time he had been ill for several years and all he wanted to do was what he loved doing.
I had the privilege to hang out with Prince a few times. I dated another star's bodyguard and we all ended up in the same place several times. Prince was a genius and a beautiful person who made music. I thought he was the best in the world. Then I found Queen's music and I know there will never be anyone better.

I can barely stomach watching this video. Hauntingly sad. Remnants of freddie are barely hanging by a thread in this video showcasing just how sick he was. He was beyond thin or skinny. He was reduced to skin draped around bone. They had to do this in black and white to help conceal how awful he truly looked. He had about a pound of makeup on to cover up his body being ravaged by this terrible disease. What is sadder is I read this article with Brian May(guitarist) where he said that if freddie held on another year. He might have been able to be saved. It wasn't too long after he passed that they found the right medicine combo that started to save the lives of AIDS patients. Brian said he has to keep burying that knowledge deep because otherwise it would drive him mad. Tragic.

He was a perfectionist and he told his bandmates near the end the official truth and he really loved his children and his cats and I watch the documentary 2 to be exact on Queen and they talked about the lead singer and it was very emotional there was times when there was recording that he would have to stop and rest cuz you couldn't just stand up anymore but he did record this in one take he knew this will be his last song the members of Queen was highly upset when instead of respecting his life his legacy that he brought to the world they just downgrade him. I mean the day he died the tabloids all they was talking about what is his AIDS nothing that he did right they didn't give it any time just slowly tell the world about all this they just shunned him it's very hurtful because he wanted to change the world and they didn't give him respect the group was highly highly upset it was a very sad documentary

Someone mentioned the ages below. Brian and Roger were in a band together, Smile, in 1968. Freddie and John joined them in 1970 to form Queen. They all were in college at the time. Brian made the guitar, The Red Special, with his father. He quit his Ph.D to play in Queen, which was a division between he and his father for years. He did eventually finish his PhD in Astro Physics. Another fun fact, Freddie designed the Queen logo with the zodiac sign of each member, two lions for Leo (Deacon, Taylor), crab for Cancer (May), two fairies for Virgo (Mercury).

Freddie is wearing custom thermals underneath his clothes to add bulk and help him keep warm because his body couldn’t regulate temperature well. They put a LOT of effort in to ensure he could hide his condition for as long as he wanted.
When Queen officially formed in 1970, Freddie was 25, Brian was 24, Roger was 21, and John was 19. However, their first record only came out in 1973, if you want to do the math and calculate their ages then, be my guest. The four of them were a band with no lineup changes for 20 years, which is incredibly rare. For comparison, the Beatles only lasted 10 years.
Freddie was cremated in the tradition of his family’s faith, Zoroastrianism. He wasn’t a practising Zoroastrian, but it was the practice of the Parsi (Persians who fled Muslin persecution), his ethnic group, and he requested a traditional Zoroastrian funeral. But, since he didn’t have a grave to visit, the band put up a statute in Montreux (a Swiss town containing their recording studio) by Lake Geneva with the epitaph, “Lover of Life, Singer of Songs”. It was written by Brian, and it’s rather fitting despite its brevity.

Definitely the guys have been together for quite a few years.... As someone who grew up with their music from my childhood, teen years, start of my adulthood and until Freddy's death in Nov 1991(I was 21) it has been such a blessing to have, in a sense, grown up with them and their amazing music! I remember Live Aid and Freddy's performance very well (was at a viewing stadium on that July 1985 day/night).. To watch the video and listen to this song it was heartbreaking to see how truly very sick he was and knowing time was running out, but as always regardless of how he felt...The SHOW MUST and does go on!! It was truly truly a sad day for music and us fans when we got the news that he had passed! He, in my opinion, is and will ALWAYS be the best stage performer of all time!!
