    There's a reason they filmed this in B&W. Watch the color footage. You can see how sick Freddie was. NONE of the band is smiling in this. They KNEW. But the most heartbreaking thing? As sick and in pain as he was, Freddie's smile at that last "I still love you". That's Freddie saying "I know, loves. But life goes on. Be your best selves".

    The video was filmed in May 1991, and it was the last music video Freddie Mercury did before he passed away in November later that year. • @winnetouch
      @winnetouch 9 місяців тому +1

      I'd say Brians goodbye song was really No one but you. Even though it was written for Princess Diana, he said it's also about Freddie and was a way for him to get over his grief. Freddie didn't sing it obviously but it's really all in all a true Queen song.

    • @deborahdoesscrap

      @@winnetouch Definitely No One But You. Brian wrote it and sent it to Roger who didn't do anything with it until a couple of years later. Roger then suggested that they do a Freddie tribute song and dug this song out and finally looked at it. He tweaked it a bit and it is the perfect Freddie memorial song, IMHO. The last time John performed on a video. They filmed it in B and W also. The day of this shoot, Freddie was in so much pain that watching him walk up the steps to the stage was just heartbreaking. He watched the footage and knew that he was performing his last. You couldn't make him look healthy but he wanted to do it and persevered through. A wonderful song.

    After rumours persisted about Freddie's health, the video was filmed and released in black-and-white to hide the full extent of his illness.
    In the video, Freddie is seen wearing a waistcoat featuring pictures of cats, that was made for him by Queen costume designer Diana Moseley.
    In the video's most emotional part, Freddie gives fans and loved ones a final farewell, by looking straight at the camera as the song ends. Freddie whispers "I still love you", which are his last words on camera.
    Video director Dolezal had been told to keep things quick due to Mercury's ailing health, but before shooting finished, Freddie requested one more take for the last lyrics of the song ("Those days are gone now but one thing's still true / When I look and I find I still love you").
    Dolezal said: "In these last few seconds of that song, he gives us a résumé of his whole life: 'I was a big superstar, but don't take it too seriously.' And then, 'I still love you,' which is to the fans. Then he walks out of life. Even in his last moments, he planned his exit artistically. That's how he wanted it to be."

      Can barely stand on my feet

      Lord, what you're doing to me?’

He needed to record until he absolutely couldn't. Because he was a performer. It was in every part of him. I feel so bad for Brian, Roger and John. It broke their hearts. By the way Brian is on the guitar ❤

      Yes, Brian wasn't actually at the shoot. They dubbed him in afterwards. I can't remember if he was on vacation or had another commitment but I know that they added him to the video later. Brian's final little smile says it all. A tremendous loss to music, performance and a wonderful man. I just saw Adam Lambert and Queen in Denver and they were wonderful. Roger has arthritis so badly that playing is really difficult for him but he persevered and Brian had a heart attack during the pandemic that took him quite a while to recover from. I wasn't sure I would get to see them again but so glad that I did. Brian came out to the end of the runway several times and I was against the stage. Could have reached up and touched the Red Special. He smiled at me and it made my 70 year old heart sing. They also set a drum kit up on the runway and Roger played a number from out there. This is the first time I have seen them do that. Tyler Warren was there to back Roger up. I know that some of the shows, Roger's son plays back up for them. I have long told my daughter that when I die, I don't want a funeral service. I want her to cremate me, take me to the cemetery, throw my ashes in the grave and blast Queen songs for an hour. My perfect send off!

Roger says this tune was about his kids, his family. Still, in creating such a song at the time with his awareness of Freddie's illness, how can one not have that in the back of the mind as words flow out on the page?
