Loving the series so far. Quick tip on cities bumping against rail lines. Just build a bit of road on the other side. It doesn't even need to connect to the city over or under the track, just be close and the city managers will go nuts with it. I discovered this when they started grabbing the little roads in front of on the other side of the tracks. I thought the tracks would stop them, but it didn't.
OK, so, you've made me buy and play this thing, and I have a couple of comments. Firstly, to those watching, what this guy does is harder than he makes it look, and he's a genius. And secondly, you need to give people some tips and tricks on how to NOT lose track of time, as they play this... because you can easily get into this and be convinced that your watch, the computer's clock and every clock in the house are 4 hours too fast! Keep up the good (and addictive) work.
Welcome to the wondrous world of Transport Fever buddy. Wait until you have fully explored the mods in the Steam Workshop, and you may add another 4 hours to those way-too-fast clocks around you, hehe... happy train-ing
My mods folder on 1(didn't play much of 2, enjoyed it less due to not able to make large trains) reached something around 18Gb or similar. What i know is that my mods used more space than the game itself.
people have done a wellness check on me to make sure im still alive and shit since is started playing this EDIT i wouldnt mind a much larger map so that planes could make sense, i can already make trains as long as the xl 1x1s, gonna have to make a 1x3 just to exploit air travel i guess
Squirrel why didn't you go under the bridge with the cargo line and then attach to the bridge from the other side. It would not interfere with the pax line and should look cool as well. Also you can just build road tunnels and bridges across track and the town will continue to grow on the other side of the track. Keep up the good work! 😁
I came to the comments to say exactly this. 38:32 No need to reconfigure the line, just build a road tunnel or bridge over the tracks, and the city will continue to grow on the other side of the tracks.
@@mutalimashamba4503 Same here @Seth Cutter-Stovicek @Squirrel At 27:05 Why all the hassle there, while there is a bridge in front of you to go under and into the inner side of the next station around the corner?? Keep it up buddy, going great...Greetz from the Netherlands
@@GIOGS yes. Both Squirrel’s series and the comment section has honestly done such a good job of teaching us that we are seeing the little (and not so little) things he’s missing. I couldn’t watch him move the train line west. I just had to skip ahead until it was done
There is an elegance to the way you lay out your networks that I haven't gotten close to mastering. I've gotten waaaay better at making money but my transport lines are always an absolute mess. It's getting better but it's such a joy to look at your stations and road networks
Posted 2 min ago? Perfect! Edit: At least one of your truck lines have stopped working. That may be because you reconfigured a station and moved the building further along. It's at 3:14. Just remember to check the line incomes and see if there is an unexpected cost to a line.
Platform size only matters for how many goods/passengers a station can hold. As long as the train can turn around, you can put a 500+ meter train into a 120m platform.
39:35 you can hold the mouse key and delete multiple tracks by scanning over them [i just wish i could scan in signals FML], and it only delete roads if you pick roads and leave tracks behind and vice versa
If you add a new era stairway in a old era platform, it converts the platform to new. So you only have to remove te roof and stairways and not the whole platform. Great series from a great, as you said not perfect but great, game. Cheers from Holland. EDIT: The downside to this methode is that you will have all platforms with stairways, because if you delete the stairways it will convert back to old era platforms.
For the second oilsands production site, you don't have to take it all the way south to a port. The rail line from the oilsands refinery to the conmat factory is just south of the production site. If you Y-junction into that line, you can make a 3 site route that uses gondolas and flatcars. It may not have big profits, but it would be efficient.
that pax-cargo interchange after aylsham is big mistake. you could easily extend the cargo line to the center of the bridge (romsey-aylsham) and cut that bridge from the down side.
Hey squirrel if you ever see my comment, I am watching these series everytime its uploaded and enjoy my breakfast with it. Plz don't discontinue it, I love these series.Thanks.
Heck yeah we enjoyed ourselves! It was real interesting to see you struggle with the problems and the solutions you came up with. I can play the game again now (new laptop, yay!) and I'm not even into the 1880's (had to start a new game, obviously) and already running into weird problems on this map, so I can't wait to see what you'll be doing next and what I'll have to look forward to 😊 Either way, keep on trucking!
Why use a train and ship to hook up the 2nd oil sand producer? Wouldn't it make more sense to use the trains that are moving sand to the con-mats plant to pick up the oil sand on their return trip?
Squirrel, i think you need to reconfigure/update the food delivery line down in Princes Risborough. Also, the Thatcham-Loughton alcohol delivery(if I am right thats what it is used for), is using the older slower tracks.
Squirrel, could you set up a few bridges or tunnels with city roads for Thatcham instead of dodging the rails? Would that work? The city should keep growing that way.
Why are truck stops so difficult ? Drop 33% at one stop, 33% at another and 33% at the final. It seems you dont understand the unload sliders and it’s painful
Hi!! love this serie! at 26:36 you see in the middle of the screen a small bit of track. Just before the tracks join. I think that that bit caused the collision-message.
Can’t you run city roads staying connected to current city streets over or under the rail and make some starter roads for them on the other side and they will build out? I feel like I’ve done it and seen it but I could be wrong.
Why not run the trains from Pr Risbourough to Thatchem along the ride edge of the map? There are industries along the way that would benefit from hookups in the future, and there is more open space to play with.
This is usually in the point of this game where it starts to be come more work than result. Love the series. You should do a new one with some sort of challenge.
Hey Squirrel, thanks so much for the wonderful series, it inspired me to purchase the game & add your collection of mods; I'm having a great time. However I'm struggling with private transport between cities; I've provided fast bus & train links, but the people refuse to get out of their cars - they'd rather sit for what seems like decades in a traffic jam than get in my public transport. Is it possible they've died in their cars and its now some kind of graveyard? Any ideas as to how we get them on our public transport?
Hoping you do a giant cargo hub somewhere to start receiving all the different manufactured goods to then distributing them to the cities... Maybe? I've seen some cool videos where they show it off but never a video of someone actually building it.
Because its inefficient in this game but it works IRL... Its a long explanation but in short, this game pays for longer journeys, not efficient journeys, so the longer and faster you go, the profitable it becomes... Hub method, while efficient and easy to manage is not as profitable... It will cripple the network eventually...
Squirrel, I know to ask something about the signal. What's the different between Auto Sig Signal and One Way Signal?? I see you make every signal one way but every time you want to chance something, you change the Auto sig.
Auto Sig is a mod that plants signals at a pre defined distance, which useful for long tracks like the Thatcham- Risborough con-mat line. It alleviates the headache of putting down signals uniformly. One way signal on the other hand makes the track mono directional, which is done in the cases of two lane tracks.

When you were extending the station at Thatcham you deleted the track and extended all the platforms. Can't you just extend only the platform that you need at 320 metres and just leave the rest as it is? Would love to hear if that is possible from you or someone else because I can't play the game for a while due to a broken pc and try it for myself....
It can haul 2000 cargos, but is only a single compartment. It is massive in scale and will look out of place in the narrow waterways. Check the streams on Squirrel Plus channel.
best would have likely have been to have gone east near the map edge and had pretty much a long straight shot from the con mat factory to the city, instead of monkeying around trying to mix it in with an existing track.....all it would have taken really would have been moving the depot...
Squirrel, does a multi stop line using only one line for something like the elongated conmat issue work? I.E. station-stop 1, station-stop 2 and so forth?

@ 37:08 ... you need 2 dropping stops at least to cover efficiently the food area in Thatcham
Around 7:15 is when the in-game time is closest to today.
Train Platforms do that all the time IRL. You see the original and then where they extended it with a different style.
Watching you do track crossovers stresses me out.

You can, but Squirell chose to ignore our suggestions/comments. OCD at its best, maybe?
Can't you add multiple dropoff points for one resource? Maybe dropoff 50/50, or even have two lines dropping stuff off?
I was hoping you'd add a new train line along the right edge of the map, but I like what you did

Always great to see another episode.
at 28: 40 do the rail under the bridge bro :D on the left and bring it on the right side up
I am so loving this playthrough really enjoy your content and commentary
Please just build a rode over the tracks to allow a city to expand.
If you want a city to redevelop better, you can always delete most of the commercial/industrial buildings.
Why don't you bridge the cargo line over the passengers line?
Why not placed cargo tracks above pax line above tunnel after the bridge that will pax line and cargo line won't collide with each other
Also just pointing out at princess port both shipping lines are using platform 1. may cause issues with either or both steel/oilsand
Enjoying the series. Thanks for the content.

hey squirrel I am planning on getting this game and stream it plus you need to make sure that bus lines are working better
when you use the MV Ever Given its not gonna get stuck is it ha
Great video! Although slight question: why do you always make a road tunnel instead of a road bridge?
Will you fix the immensely overcrowded bus stops in the cities?
FYI there is a steam achievement for making a 600m train.
Can you build tunnels under the rail line to allow the cities to grow beyond the rails?
is easy if you run the train line up the border of the map!

you never reuse tracks or platforms. i get why, but it's so gamey
Instead of moving your tracks to allow cities to grow why not build them a frontage road on either side and add a few road bridges?
Can you not just do a mass delete of a station rather than a configure delete then just reattach tracks at each end?
Add signal to princess cargo station for sand one signal missing
I know this is old but why didn’t you just take the tracks under the other tracks?
