As a 29 year old dad with more kids on the way this car is stylish, practical, roomy, economical when you need it to be, fairly quick...and as a flagship VW I just can't wait for the guys over at APR, Integrated Engineering and the like to come out with exhausts, ECU flashes, suspension and other performance upgrades for this vehicle...aftermarket support will be plentiful!!! Definitely my next car purchase!

You keep saying "like BMW, like Audi, like Porsche", this is a VW. You want premium features on a not so premium car. I get the message, but I don't agree. VW has done a great job with adding features of a premium vehicle without busting the budget while giving it an edge, as well.
VW does a great job of giving you a German feel in your car but it's not luxury like a BMW and Audi, I got a CC and people are always shocked a VW can look and feel like a German luxury brand. I think this guy is having the same disconnect problem while testing a new VW.
1. As you rightly said Chris, the HUD would have looked better had it been integral. The pop-out thing is not so good. 2. Bull horns kind of DRLs make the facia look "regular". VW should have done better here. 3. Instead of all black, the interior in some dark brown shade could have been better for some freshness inside. 4. Hope the LED headlights "perform" at night and illuminate the roads properly w/ anti-dazzle beam pattern. Not a mere cosmetic thing. Nice review though... 👍

Of course, we'll never get the diesel here in the US. . . but given our speed limits, we're probably not as likely to notice the engine running out of wind in some situations. It seems more and more manufacturers are forsaking the 6 cylinder engine for turbo and supercharged 4's . . . a pity as I'm a 6 cylinder kind of guy and enjoy not only their greater output but their smoothness. I'll be anxious to drive this once it makes it to the US.
The phideon is definitely a good competition in the full size segment in China. The arteon is good and I agree with you, they should’ve made the acceleration more quieter. A golf r engine with turbo would’ve been good, if they wanted higher performance on maybe an r line or a sports trim; not the top elegance trim. The top elegance trim should be more comfort focus and less sportiness, but still sporty and very quiet.
Good review Chris! Just don't understand why you are comparing the Arteons interiour with the Golfs? It's clearly the Passat who is the donor.. And the space in the cabin and boot is the same as the Skoda Superbs (since the two cars have more or less identical dimensions..)
You have done a wonderful review. But I would love to see you do one on the versions with less HP and consumption, because some of us like to save the environment a bit and some money on the way and don´t feel that we need tons of HP. Your turn, because nobody else is doing this!
The top trim Skoda Superb has the same engine & transmission, with more interior leg & head room, and yet it's noticeably lighter than Arteon! And it's cheaper too! However, Arteon does have better EuroNCAP crash result.
The Superb has a noisy cabin IMHO - I wonder whether the Arteon is quieter? The Superb looks like it would have more rear head room, yes. Are you sure it has more leg room though?

the problem with this kind of cars is that you absolutely cannot put 3 kids in the back. In the past these kind of cars were much bigger it seems. I checked the Arteon yesterday, and it is small. You cannot use it as a family car really.
Raf Degrève you’re exactly right my friend, however, the car was designed to compete with the likes of Bmw grande coupe which is made as a 4 door sedan with coupe styling. That is why the dramatic sloping roof line. It’s absolutely the wrong option of car for someone with multiple children. Wasn’t really meant to be a family sedan.

it costs more than A4 in Australia. No reason to not compare. Inside cabin, sadly, this car is no comparison to Audi.

the arteon should have also the 5 cylinder from the rs3. it is on the cupra formentor, side mounted, it should be here also.
