the Minelab Manticore vs the XP Deus 2. An interesting first comparison of these two machines. I must admit I like both of them. And no one pays me to test these machines so my opinions are always only my own.

Hi, I am a metal detectorist and outdoor adventurer with a passion for history. I work with an archeological department to find lost artifacts. Some of which I hope will be displayed for the public to enjoy. I do this hobby both for myself but also to share with you guys. I hope you enjoy visiting my channel and I wish you all well - Розваги
Love the scenic view you give us when the camera is on the tripod! Great day for a dig! Wish I was there! Thanks for the video!
I will try to do more of this type of video soon. Thank you for the comment
Very interesting video NOA! Thanks very much for making it! Be well!
Thanks my friend. Still learning
Enjoyed seeing the comparison. Thanks for sharing the hunt and finds. Good luck, happy hunting and take care. ✌️
Thanks my friend. I really appreciate that
Very nice field comparison video Nathaniel. Test garden videos are nice but real world field tests are even better. Thank you. GL&HH.
Still room to improve and I am learning the Manticore but I like it so far
Well done. Good test between the two. I do like having the 2d screen to watch. Find I use it more and more. Why not. It is one of the main features of the machine. Said to the boss as we were out filming us detecting, I feel I can have a good look in the ground with the manticore.
Nice no bias. Take care mate 🦘🦘👍😁
I seem to have upset some people but I am still learning and trying. I do like the screen myself but worried I might get too used to relying on it
A great video comparison on the 2 machines x
Hey thank you so much. Still learning
Hi Mate great comparison video , i like using the XY screen find it gives you more of a description of the target but i mostly go by sounds with the DeusII(This is just my opinion) great video mate all the best👌
Hey Mart how are you. Yes I tell a lot from the sound of the Deus 2. I really love using that machine
@@NathanielOutdoorAdventures im good mate how are you ? I like using it to a great Detector
Thanks for owning two top end machines and taking the time to do this video. 👍🏻
You are welcome. I know there is room to improve and I am still learning the Manticore
Looks like a wonderful place to test them both out.
Hey Gary thanks
@@NathanielOutdoorAdventures Your welcome friend.
Just watching the video I get a sense of what to dig and what not to dig with the deus. Was thinking of getting the deus 2 master. So this fills me with confidence I will only leave iron behind
I love the Deus 2 to be honest. It is an amazing machine.
Great video enjoyed very much
Hey my friend thank you so much
Great video! It's the kind of thing that users of both these machines want to see. 🙂 as for pinpointing my opinion is the fisher f75 had the best pinpointer/ground balancer ever. Pull the trigger to pinpoint and push the trigger for ground balance! Easy peasy and I even think it was more ergonomic but like most detctorist I like to try newer machines as they come so I know mainly use the deus 2 which definitely has a longer learning curve but also has alot of new technology to squeeze out some items that old tech can't. From all of the videos I've been watching I do not think there is an advantage or disadvantage between the deus 2 and manticore..?
I love the Deus 2. I used to use the Makro Multi Kruzer which is in my opinion a deeper hitting machine than the Deus 2 but the target ID is much better with the Deus. I am still learning the Manticore. As a starting point I always begin with the basic settings to get used to the machine. I started off with the general mode with the deus but realised quickly I was missing a lot of targets. Sensitive FT seemed to correct that. And that is now my favourite setting. I am still too new to the Manticore. I think from first impressions that it might be a slightly better machine but I am not yet sure if the extra money is truly worth it. I have to do further testing in iron filled sites and mineralised ground to really get to know this new machine and play with the settings. So as yet I am still on the fence. A long answer to your question I know but I hope that helps.
is it 11inch and do u ever use deus2 with sw6 only ? if so what settings for pasture?
Unfortunately I do not use the headphones too often with the Deus 2. My favourite setting with it is the sensitive FT programme with the sensitivity cranked up
Great video. I have the manticore and no matter what I do it falses a lot on iron. I’m still learning my machine coming from the nox 800. I will say when I do come across a coin I always know it’s a coin before I dig it. I like the ease of the menu on the manticore better than D2 and the sound MC
I am still learning the Manticore. I have noticed with other people it struggles with iron filled sites and heavily mineralised ground. I have a place I can test it on as soon as I am able
Nice Comparison of Both Detectors…..At The end of your Hunt You get Blue sky & Sun …….Thanks for sharing
Very true Rob. Thank you for the kind words
Thanks mate ... interesting.. does the manticore stand that much taller to warrant the price tag .. 🤔
Still learning the ropes with it I am afraid. Too early to give an honest opinion
Good video, nice equipment❤
Still learning
Nicely done good video, i enjoyed it. 🇺🇸
Thanks Fred. I really appreciate that.
Well done . The more I use the Manticore the more I like it . I like the 2D screen .
True my friend this is an impressive machine. I have a lot to learn with it. Can I ask what settings you use for the beach and have you tried it on land yet?
Hi Nathaniel , I have not done a land hunt with it yet . On the beach I use Beach Surf in the water and Beach low conductor on the rest of the beach . Good luck with the new machine .
Well that was cool!! Those are some fancy detectors! I dont think I even remember how to turn mine on lmao!! Looks so nice there hey??
My friend. Your channel does not need these machines lol. You are doing amazing
My Manticore should arrive this week, then to try and find someplace to try it out.
I am sure you will enjoy. It is an impressive machine
Field test side by side was interesting.
Both machines are very good. I am still learning the Manticore
Good comparisons, dunno why you are not using the xy screen, lot of deus users will tell you listen to the tones,i'll always use the xy and set the zoom to 4,saves me a lot of digging.
I will try your suggestion thank you. I find the screen distracts me. Also with the Manticore. I have rules which include digging iron so I dig a lot of targets that other people would not and so I have learnt a few things about the screens
Which of the two is best for gold nuggets?
A very good question. Unfortunately I have not found any gold with these machines as mostly the areas I am in are not known for gold. I can try an air test if you would like
Thanks
You are very welcome my friend
🙏Hey Nathaniel, just returning with a more *positive* comment than my last one... 😏 Yes, your video here was well put together thanks. Just a suggestion/request for a possible update: Any chance you could do a follow-up video, which would be a 'shoot-out' comparison of the Manticore vs Deus 2? - but this time, with both machines 'pushed' in the settings. 💪 I realise you'd need a few more hours with the Manticore first - but would be great to see when you're ready... Just an idea anyways... Ttfn, Bobby 🦝
Thank you Bobby. I really appreciate that. I always start off in basic settings to learn a machine and yes I will try out the settings once I am more confident with it. As soon as I am able I will make a shoot out video like you suggest and thank you for your suggestion.
@@NathanielOutdoorAdventures Hey thanks N, and yeah it's a pleasure matey... Btw: I'm close to (finally) getting my Deus 2 and, by the sounds of things, I'm pretty unlikely to regret it... 🙏 ☺
@@UkuleleBobbyKemp They are amazing machines. You will love it. I used it at detectival this spring and in my opinion it out performed the Manticore as the ground was heavily mineralised. It loves finding silver. My advice is to try out sensitive FT and crank up the sensitivity. But I know everyone is different and it depends on the soil type.
@@NathanielOutdoorAdventures Yes, and that's great advice thnx N. I know Gareth 'Dukes of Derbyshire' uses 'Sensi FT', so I'm definitely gonna try that, plus 'Deep HC'. My main hope is to pick out deep silvers and also hammereds. These latter tend to be lower conductivity numbers hey? (often high 50's on the Deus 1). D'you think 'Sensi FT' is still a good program for hammereds? (or is it difficult to say?) Tnx agen, B 🐐
@@UkuleleBobbyKemp I have detected with Gareth. A great guy and a friend. Hammered coins can ring up all over. I have found cut half coins in the aluminium range ringing up in the 20s. A nice round solid silver coin should ring up high. But if it is not full silver and not entirely round like a clipped coin then it could ring up almost anywhere. I would base your decisions on the type of ground you are on. If there is a lot of trash then be more selective with your targets. But if you are on a field when a lot of targets are old and interesting items then I would dig almost every target. You will be surprised by the results but you will need a lot of patience
I got the Manticore a couple months a go so far not really caring for it.I don't pay much mind to detector reviews in other country's do to the targets are different from the U.S not to mention the soil witch is the factor as to how deep your detector will detect a target no matter what detector your using. But don't get me wrong I enjoy anything to do with detecting I love the hobby. If I don't start doing better with the Manticore I will sell it and buy a Deus2.Thanks for the video and best of luck
I like it but out of them both I think I prefer the Deus
So wich one its better?
They are both impressive machines. I think it comes down to personal preference. I prefer the way of charging the Manticore but it takes much longer than the Deus. Both are light. Some people are very visual and some prefer sound. Each to their own. I think there are circumstances where each machine would do better. I think the price also plays a part. Is the price difference really worth it. I would say the Manticore is a little better particularly if you are using it under water. I just do not like the little wire you use to connect the coil on the Deus
Loved the vid.
Was tossing up between the Manticore and the Deus 2 but after hearing the sounds/tones of the Deus 2 I’m going the Manticore.
To me it sounds like someone rubbing their hands on a balloon over and over again. Not for me haha
Lol. Never thought of that but you could be right. The Manticore is a mighty machine. Enjoy
I had considered upgrading from the Nox 800 to the D2, but I just couldn’t get over the look and function of the menu system…wasn’t a big fan of the build quality either…. Ultimately went to the Manticore, took a bit to get use to, but now I’m loving it, 0 regrets
I love the way the Manticore screen shows up on the camera and how easy it is to read the numbers. I also like the fact for under water use you do not have a thin and easily broken wire to attach. Still learning the machine though
Nothing wrong with the build quality on the D2,and with the new v1.0 it's just got better.
Your silly ....d2 with new v1 update ... and the build quality remember who had coil stem issues or all the waterproof eq problems I own both well all 3 again your silly D2 is the best or second best to a ctx 3030
@@zrbsrbija We all have different preferences. If we all only liked one machine there would only be one machine on the market. I personally have never used the 3030 so I could not comment on it
@@NathanielOutdoorAdventures Read his comment .. deus did not have build quality issues Minelab did. Most of my detectors are Minelab but I call it the way I see it Right now Deus 2 with the update is the BEST High end general ( not gold thats minelab 6 or 7 k ) the best machine you can purchase but hey You tell your self what ever you want to make you feel better
Interesting video !. Correct me if Im wrong but it looks like you dont have some sort of protective covers on the both remotes because of the mud marks on them !. If I had just coughed up nearly £3000 on them, I would have. My Deus 1 which I bought secondhand has a cover and still looks like new. Why plaster them in shite ?.
I have tried recording with a cover over the screen but you can hardly see anything in the camera. I do have covers for both of them though.
A nexus MP V3 would seriously outperform both
Unfortunately I have never tried one of these to be able to compare
❤
ummm, sorry but I don't agree with your interpretation on a few of those Deus signals. They clearly tell you they are iron but you chose to ignore what the sound is telling you (No.4 & 5). Think you need more time on the deus. And before any fan boys chirp up - I own both....early days for me on the manticore but It shows great promise. Personlly I like use the wiggle for pin pointing on both machines, pin pointing on any machine is a gimmick. I think to truly compair machines you need to try an equalise the setting across both machines.
Thank you Jon. I appreciate the feedback.
I just checked the video and I do make it clear that the Deus two is riding Iron. Actually under the rules I have to follow for my licence we have to dig iron also. So I may have a different understanding of those sounds to most people. Hope that helps clear up any misunderstanding
++I agree Jon. Several targets I never would have recovered were called good by the Deus. The buttons clearly showed below the center but were called good by the Manticore. I got the feeling there is a bit of bias here. But thanks for the video.
@@NathanielOutdoorAdventures what do you mean by your license? Require the digging of iron?
Great video.
Thanks
And your using full tones, which is waiting for an update. Had you used just the general program in square tones, you'd had got much better results. It's almost as if you set the deuce deuce up for failure. Thumbs down
Thanks for vid
Hey thanks. More to come
I own the D2 and I'm learning to use it. The screen on the thing is horrible and that is my only complaint about it.
I love the machine. You can tell a lot from the sounds but yes the screen is surprisingly bad for the money
I did a ten hole comparision once and i still dont know which one of the Ladies was the best.
They are both strong machines for sure. I think I still lean more towards the Deus but that is personal preference
Hard work - but, you're getting the hang of the machines out in the wilds! Don't the machines "fight" each other, frequency wise?
I have not noticed much interference to be honest. I do keep them apart and sometimes switch the other off to see if there is interference
How about ergonomics? Never owned Minelabs so do not know weight and ease of use. Love my Deus 2
I love the Deus 2 also. The Manticore is very light and folds down to easily fit in a rucksack. In terms of performance so far I would say they are very similar. My personal preference is probably slightly biased toward the Deus but that may only be because I know that machine well
Both good machines but for the prices for what you get it's just not worth it. Other cheaper machines in both manufacturers really are producing just as good results. The ethos in purchasing machines created by the hype is somewhat fraught. But each to their own if your pocket can stand it enjoy
I agree. One of my favourite machines is the Makro Kruzer or Multi Kruzer. And there are many others that perform very well. It is much more about the permission you have than the machine
i don't agree 70ish is rubbish i got roman silvers around it.
I have also found silver in the 70s range. It depends where you hunt. In parks in my area the 70s are usually rubbish but in the fields I always dig them. I don't think I said they are always rubbish. If I did I am sorry
Why do people get so uppity about their detectors? I personally think it was a really great video of the two machines in action, they are rare. For all the moaners, make your own bloody videos if you know so much!
Thanks Martin. I am still learning and realised that I am not always explaining things correctly or they are coming across in ways I do not mean. I can learn from the criticism and I very much appreciate your support. Thank you
@@NathanielOutdoorAdventures Hi Nathaniel, I think you explained it very well. Criticism is all well and good, but it's the spikiness with which it is delivered. I don't see any of these critics out there swinging both machines and posting videos, so take their observations and opinions with a big pinch of salt. I haven't seen many real dig comparisons of the two detectors so I really value your efforts and your work. Keep it up and count me in as a new subscriber. 💪👍
Thank God you didn't compare it to the Legend, we'd have never heard the end of it... 😂😂
@@fundamentallymartin9656 Lol. I have the Legend also so I could try that next time. Great idea
@@NathanielOutdoorAdventures You must be a glutton for punishment then! Lol
What does your wife think about you carrying around your detecting gear in her car? 😁
Lol. She hates it but I do clean the car regularly
@@NathanielOutdoorAdventures 😂
Original Comment now edited/removed... There are far too many nice people here for such negativity (from me...) All the best to you all... BK
I have to disagree as I want to know what they are like straight out the box with factory settings.
@@paulstanhope2914 you never get the best of sny machine out of the box… would love to know his settings on both machines…. Seems like a bs test to me.
@@paulstanhope2914 Fair comment of course - but these machines have both been out a while now, (partic the D2), so there's plenty of videos with folks showing and comparing their basic features.
A valid point. I am still learning the Manticore so I am not yet ready to push the settings. I have pushed the settings on the Deus and it performs well. As I said in the video it is still too early to tell exactly where I stand on the Manticore compared to the Deus 2
I appreciate that Paul. My first test was more about learning the ropes of the Manticore
Thanks so much my friend
You look like one of those old German mountain hikers 🏔 😀
I have both and really like the Manticore, but both will work.
If I was young again and no money, I would buy the X-tera
Indeed. I like them both. I also have the X-tera and that is an impressive machine for the money for sure. And I often feel like an old German hiker lol
