- Vacuum pumps on a w140 can be a nightmare when trying to fix or replace. Although very easy to access, cost of units and diagnosing issues can cause headache’s. I try to break down the way to remove and fix your pse pump and what hose lines control what. Enjoy

The second pump you refer to as not from a W140 actually is a earlier style pump.
I have one of those in my 600SEL. It comes with a additional ‚manifold‘ if you will… all lines are connected to the manifold and it just plugs and unplugs via one tab that goes into the latch in the middle. So no individual lines to disconnect.
Don’t know why they choose to ditch that style, it’s clearly superior to the later ones, because you don’t have the risk of breaking connectors when removing the pump.
Welcome back Pete! You were missed!
Appreciate it as always
so, thing to know with the PSE pumps, when they "die" there is a small motor inside the unit that can be changed out with one you can get on amazon even, thats what i did with mine. Its very rare for the board in it to die, normally the brushes in the motor wear out killing it
Definitely something I wanted to learn. I cracked open the one that went bad and it looked like a mess inside. Also hard to open without damaging. Any suggestions or write up on how to do. Thanks ahead
Thx 4 the insight!
The WIS explains that you can use a 7 or 8mm open-ended wrench to very easily remove the vacuum lines.
Oh I’m sure it works on one that isn’t brittle but older pumps are very sensitive. Almost no way to perfectly get them off.
@@petescarport Actually, its pretty much the ONLY way you have a chance at getting them off intact if they are brittle lol.
Alrighty then lol. @@petescarport
I'm a mechanic (like for a living for the last 21 years) and ive actually never broken one. Just something to think about@@petescarport
@@Johnathan_Watersso bad to remove a pump yesterday and for fun I grabbed a 9mm and it ironically it was the exact size of the trim removal tool and the removal tool just make it easier to remove. So I’m not disagreeing with you on the open end wrench method but it’s not necessarily the best.
Hey Pete, I was wondering if you would be interested in getting rid of the motor & assembly of the (PSE ) motor that doesn't work, I'm trying to put one together...
The pump you don’t know what it’s from is the early (series 1) w140 pump. For 1991 to 1993 cars
Hi, Hie long dose the pse pump stays on when you open or close doors with a key or from inside?
Hey Pete, I've got a 1998 W140 S500, and i cannot get my trunk open. I'm doing the same things as you with the ( PSE PUMP ) .I just can't open my trunk to get to the fuse. I've tried using my key..that won't work either, can you point me in the rite direction...PLEASE!!!!
Thanks Pete...the PB BLASTER worked ...Thanks again!!!!!
@bigal7201 awesome. Yeah sometimes you have to really work it in to get the key to work again. Glad it worked. With mine I had to really play with pushing button in and out while working key back and forth.
Hi Pete
Is their a way to disable the soft close
Just want to close doors without it.
Thanks
You can pull the fuse
Pete. Dude, I really need your help on my 1999 CL500. The trunk latch will not open and is stuck in half open mode. What I mean is that the handle is in the out position, the lock will not unlatch and I can only pull the trunk lid open 1 inch up then latch. I need your help with this, buddy.
Please message me on instagram and I can see if I can help.
Hey Pete, you said you have a pump ? I don't have a instergram account
Sory but what is the backup rods ?
They were on the early model w140s as an option. When car was put in reverse they would come up from both rear corners to guide you on how close you were to things while parking. Before parking sensors
Just need to get my trunk open, so i can replace the fuse..PETE...
Sounds like your lock barrel is jammed. Happen to two of my cars. If you use a good lubricant like pb blaster and wiggle key in lock it can free up the jammed barrel.
