Pete, I absolutely luv your vids, I'll get you a pic of my 1998 S320 my only problem is can't get the can't get the Cam position sensor codes off. When time permits we'll chat, thanks.
Yes, self-closing is a notorious fault. You need to reset the system, by cutting power supply, after few actuations (it's an electronic fault not pneumatic). What I've done is to cut power off to the self-closing system, by opening a series mounted normally-on relay when the reversing light turns on. This way, few times a day, I have a power cut to the electronics of the soft-closing system. Any other option (new electronics, etc) comes with an eye-watering price.
Hello Pete, love your videos! I had this problem and replaced the pump, everything worked perfect, until the door locks started to go crazy, lock and unlock by itself, usually when i unlock they lock immediately, for some strange reason when i go into reverse they go up, and then down. Do you have any idea what the problem might be. Thanks a lot
So I believe what your referring to is the ac vacuum block. That opens and closes vents. Can you send a photo. Does it have yellow and white hoses going to it?
Hey Pete thanks for all the info I have a 1997S 420 and my soft close quit working couple months ago replaced fob battery didn’t help then a coupe days ago I went to unlock driver door with key as usual ( only drivers door has key slot) and the lock on the inside came up interior lights come on but door will not open key turns easy lock bar moves up and down but acts as though locked ? Hi Pete, you"re the best. Just came across your channel. I tried removing the #9 fuse as you suggested. IT WORKED !!! My daughter will be happy. Any suggestions regarding AC. The car is back on the road after 5 years in my garage. Thanks in advance, Earl
Hello Pete. I've been watching your insight on the w140. I just wanna say great job on all the cars. The question I have is that I have a w140 and I have an issuse with the driver side rear door (won't open) from outside nor the inside. I was wondering if you could direct me to a possible solution in getting the door open
Nice ride Pete. I have a W140 w 47k mi on it. Looking to freshen it up. Can you advise if I need to replace the soft close pump if each door is reading the close and suction initiates but does not close the door fully. No issues with the trunk though.
So yes. Sounds like either pump is weak or a slow leak. Usually a slow leak will make one door not work because the pump will shut down suction when it recognizes a leak
Hey there Pete. So I managed to source a replacement pump. My existing one wasn’t sucking in the doors all the way. I had the mechanic install the new pump & it worked great for about 24 hrs . Now for whatever reason it’s not sucking at all. Wonder if you have any thoughts. Might take it back to the mechanic if I can’t figure it out myself
Hi Pete, any advice on how to make the pump “release” the door any quicker? I removed the fuse and it got the doors/trunk working but it stops working after only 3-4 “uses”. I noticed that the pump keeps working for 10-15 second after the door has been pulled in and then releases, so im guessing this is why it needs to be reset so often.
I don't only because you have to program it unless it's the one from the car. Right now my pump failed and I will be doing an upcoming video on how to remove and test. You can get them repaired as well. Be cautious if you buy another one it won't allow you to start car unless you program to car since it's part of security
@@petescarport Good day to You! With all due respect, that is not truly true. I had replaced the pump (under the back seat, w140 600sel 1992 v12) with one from 1995 420 v8 and it is starts and drives well. However, after a few days, the check engine light came on. I cleared the code, there was a few and one specifically for the pneumatic pump. Hi pete i have a w140 s320 1993 and i want to restore it can you guide me on it that what i am gonna cost and is it worth spending as i know it is a beautiful machine
That’s a pretty broad subject. It heavily depends on current state of vehicle and how far you want to go. Most restorations for daily driving would be about $2-5k for suspension, brakes, tires, fuel system and tune up and other wear items
Great video. Thanks for doing it. I just bought a new pump for my 140 and was going to have a shop put it in, but this looks like something even I could handle. One question though. We didn’t get to see you disconnect the hose lines from the pump. Is there any trick to it? I just wanna be sure not to break any plastic pieces. Thank you so much for your help.
You have to be very careful pulling them. Don't use plyers. I used a plastic trim tool from harbor freight that's like. A pick fork. Honestly I also used my hands but wiggled it till it came out. I never broke one doing it but have heard others break them trying to use plyers or screw driver.
@@joelfromthedesert1692 and yes it is very easy and not worth paying someone. Hope it works out. I may need a new pump. My door started working last week again and than stopped. I'm now sure it's a bad valve in pump.
Hey Pete ! Love from UAE. I just wanted to ask that I had the softclose working on all 4 doors but it slowly started to be working on 3 then 2 and then none! However for the last one ( driver’s door when I closed the door it soft closed it but then I heard a huge snap and I tried to soft close the door and it didn’t ! Do u think it’s the pump itself or something else ?
Hey Pete, thanks for useful video! I just quickly browsed through your videos and I see you fixed soft close already. I'll watch that videos within few days too. Anyway I got few questions - when you tried to close any of 3 other doors did you hear any noise from the pump? And was there any noise when you tried to close right front door where soft close didn't work? Thanks! PS: currently all my 4 doors don't close via soft close (it stopped working on all doors approximately at the same time) and truck handle is acting weirdly: when I close the trunk handle first sucks inside like it should but then fully comes out in about 30 seconds or so. I guess I need to try to reset pump first and see what happens.
So funny thing is the trunk handle part works off a different pump but the soft close part of trunk works on the pump in trunk. The handle mechanism is controlled by the lock pump under the rear seat. Mine currently isn't working because my lock pump went bad but my trunk still sucks shut. When my passenger door wasn't working, it wouldn't function at all. I found out a ground wire for that door came off and when I got a radio installed they fixed it by mistake because it was ground for door speaker too.
