It's good to see this game again! I've always loved playing it, and I think on my next run, like you, I'll not use the warps😂 Luigi was always my favorite one because of his jumps.

Luigi was your favorite??? Hah, I'm sure you'll enjoy some of my "choice words" when I play as him a bit more in future episodes!

So crazy that Birdo knew your *real* name and locked you both inside of a classroom so you can spend time together forever.

It's the best ending, really. The other characters don't matter!

MARIO 2 IS ACTUALLY A JAPANESE GAME CALLED DONKEY DONKEY PICNIC
Now here's a game I didn't expect you to play. A certified classic! It's remarkable how much classic Mario identity came from this game despite its origins; _Bob-Ombs_ debuted in this game! I honestly like this game a lot more than I do the "proper" Mario 2, which is basically Mario 1 DLC.
Edit: I should really wait until the video's done before I make a comment in case you ask any hypothetical questions. Normally I do but I was just so excited to comment about Mario 2.
The Red Shell item is in fact different in Doki Doki, I think it's called the Big Face and it's meant to be a mask of some sort, but I think it looks a little questionable, may have been changed less to make it more Mario-themed and more to adjust to American sensibilities, if you get my drift. Let's just say it goes into the same bucket as Mr. Popo and Jynx and move along.
Birdo's and Ostro's names were mistakenly swapped in the credits, so it's less that Birdo was "called Ostro" and more that anyone who beat the game but didn't read the manual would think Birdo was called Ostro. The "Birdetta" comment is _also_ from the manual where it says Birdo is a guy who wishes he was a girl and would rather be called Birdetta (there is a similar comment in Japanese that he wants to be a girl and be called Cathie rather than Catherine, which is Birdo's Japanese name). While the "Birdetta" comment has largely been left in the NES days, Birdo has become pretty solidly depicted as female in official media (alongside a few jokes of varying taste here and there) and a trans woman within the fandom. Fun gaming history!

Yeah, I definitely remember reading that about Birdo in the manual. It really is fascinating how much impact this "almost not a Mario game" had on the franchise though. Like you said, we wouldn't have Bob-ombs if not for this game! What a weird alternate timeline that would be.

Did you Catch that the title screen music is the swimming theme from the original Mario Bros game

This was a great game but I could never beat it when I was younger.

Hah, yeah, me neither! Not without a lot of cheating, anyway. But it was a lot of fun to revisit the game now that I'm older.
