This recording deserves recognition for its musicianship. It is the finest example, that I have discovered thus far, of the collaboration of Chester Adkins and Helen Carter. 'Rose of the Alamo' showcases Helen's pace and rhythm, and ability to squeeze a melody out an accordion while coloring Anita's voice at that pace. Chet Adkins jumps on her every expression with flurries that only he could conceive of or produce. I think about the the education in music that Chet added to Helen's natural ability; the musical development he brought to all four of these women with exceptional individual talent. It doesn't surprise me that Adkins spent his career after the Carters in the studio recording. The material produced during that 8 years he worked with them found willing, worthy students in these sisters. June remarked matter-of-factly to a reporter 3 years before this that " we don't read music, we just play by ear." I discover new nuance and subtlety each time I listen. A masterpiece!
In Love w/ Nita sice childhood days, BUT, Helen is an authentic Talent with deep concerns for maintaining , without tarnish, for what they stood. Good peoples of ever day living. My Respex , kenxqed.thewhimperer Sleepy Hollow Ranch Family
Although Chet was a great addition to their band. The Carters were a very tight band and great musicians in their own right without Chet. Before Chet was hired in 1949, Helen was a pioneer on accordion playing leads, like a lead guitar and carrying the rhythm with Maybelles great rhythm guitar as well on all their songs Anita plays the bass on all these recordings as she sings. Anita was such a good bass player, Chet used her as a studio bass musician in Nashville when he started producing records.
Anita Carter at 16...American Idol eat your heart out! What a natural!

Amen. They are very under-rated as musicians.
