Finding Financial Freedom in the Philippines using only my Social Security

- In this video I explain how I achieved Financial Freedom using only my Social Security while in the Philippines. There must be millions of Americans who could do exactly as I have done. In the end now I live a very stress free life.
This is the best Philippine expat channel on UA-cam.
Thank you so much. It's nice to hear from you again
I agree.
Yes sir, another great and hopeful video. Thank you! Still several years away for me, but I'm getting ready. Lost about 25 lbs recently, started exercising again, saving my pennies, investing a little. Need to be reasonably fit, healthy, happy ... for the next adventure.
Thank you!! That's awesome Robert. I'm feeling inspired to get in better shape now.. It's so nice to hear from you again my friend
I’m on a similar path, I’m down 85 pounds, changed to healthy diet and walking! I’m around 3 years away if I can continue to save $$. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Keep it up my friend

Yes I am! Even more than I imagines!! We'll leave the light on for you my friend!!!
I'm not hurting here in the States but I will be coming to the PH in the next few years so my dollar can go further and I can live more.
You definitely don't need to be hurting to love the Philippines. I was thinking while making this video how much better my life has become since moving here. It's a shame to think if I had financial freedom there the type of life I may have missed by not coming here
sooner you will its getting expensive in US now

Hey Carlo!! I'm your newest subscriber!!
Enjoy your trip Brother, headed to phillipines in September for 30 days to look for my retirement home. Keep the videos coming.
I'm right behind you. November, hopefully for three or four months.
Where are you headed when you come here? I hope we can cross paths when you're on your journey
There you go again, spreading 'hope'.. good on ya'... 😉👍
There are so many that need hope. The style of this video was to show that from a first hand point of view. Everything seen in that video came from one trip I made and like I said I paid it all came from my average monthly SS income. As I said in the video the only difference is I was there for almost three weeks not just 3 to 4 days. From that a person can imagine how their life could be with the same income as I have. Thank you for the kinds words Lane and nice to see you again here on the channel
Congratulations. I respect you. The trolls are infected with US venom. Sad souls. Thank you for your channel. You’re brilliant and so helpful for others🙏🏼

You're the best Ms Antonette
I enjoyed your video as I always do. I've been in the Philippines 11 months but it is just early retirement and I don't have retirement SS coming in yet. But I did find a way to be able to make it living here cheaper. And I'm hoping to use the Philippines as base point and travel to visit other countries too.
But also, since I am married to a Filipina and have a daughter, it has cost me more than if I was single. We've learn from some of our mistakes. So we have now had to consider leaving Bacolod City and move to a cheaper place. We will be living elsewhere within the month and we have already retained a nicer house for half of what we are paying in Bacolod City. Keep up the videos. Thanks
Thank you my Steve. What area will you be resettling too? I will be down that way again in the next couple months. Do you have your channel up and going yet?
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Hey Thanks. This is just my subscription channel. I have a couple of more you-tube channels and one channel is my own Philippine travel channel. I put 2 videos up before we left the U.S. 11 months ago. And then never did any more uploads.
But we had some difficult times here in Bacolod. This is where my wife grew up, so when I retired to the PH, this was the obvious choice. But the crowds is worse here. I really wanted to pursue Baguio (for the cooler weather) but my wife does not want to be too far from her mama. So we are moving to San Carlos City which is 2-1/2 hours away from Bacolod City. I made friends with another UA-camr who lives there called (G5 Philippines) and he wants us to do some collaborations together.
But first we are headed to Thailand next week and then coming back and sometime in mid-July we will be in San Carlos City. Keep me posted on if you ever get around the area. Thanks again.
Yes I will. Maybe the three of us could collaborate at some point
just saw you interview on Paul's channel...good interview
Thank you Cyndi!
Good to see you again. Lovely trip, I'm actually watching this for the second time now. Keep on keepin' on! 😉
I love the closing, how sweet. Thanks again for the message and information. Very nice.
Very Nice. Thank you my friend. I am already working n the next in this series
thanks for making this video. i really enjoy watching your videos. even though i have to search them out. i am subscribed with notifications but i dont get notified and have to remember to search them out and i am sometimes behind 1 0r more episodes. i love your channel.
Thank you for watching and your comments. It means a lot to me!!
I like this format, sort of like we're tagging along with you. The whole idea of living within your means and still being able to explore is what I want. I'm about six years away until retiring at 67 and I know that I want to spend more time in the Philippines just like you. Thank you for sharing, your channel and information encourages me that this life is possible with discipline. I'm not sure where I want to eventually land, I'm an island girl from Hawaii at heart, so I want to find someplace at least nearer to the ocean but away from the crowds. I need to figure that out. Keep up the great work!
Thank you. I will be touring and looking for more houses in areas all over the Philippines. In that effort I will also hopefully give good descriptions for those looking to tour and see for themselves
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I'll be in the Philippines on extended overseas duty travel from mid October until mid November, maybe we can plan on meeting up?
Crunch your SS numbers by age of retirement and figure that amount of money you will get till the age of 78. if you draw at 62 the monthly income is less than at 67 but you will see that the total amount of money is not much different if you start collection at 62 vs 67 you just collect for more years at a reduced rate. It may be what you need to pull off early retirement and move to the Philippines
@@michaelatoz580 Moving here may allow some to retire early and for a few reasons

beautiful resort. on another note, good to see the contrarian experience to the guys talking about the view that one should simply not consider PH without a bare min of $18k a year, with decent life starting at $36k. i dont take those guys seriously anymore. thanks for your content that relates more to my reality than most other channels on this budget topic.
Thank you for the comment and compliment!! I was asked many times to do a budget and so I did. If you haven't seen my "Realistic Budget" Give it a look. Then no one can be denied what would work for them. They will be able to see and choose the price points that would work for them. Mine was $600 a month and a true minimalist could go even lower and be content. Especially if they're the type who lives like we did when I lived in a commune when I was 17
I really identify with exactly what you are saying! I was so excited about the possibility of coming to the Philippines, but it seems a lot of the naysayers about convinced me not to try it because I'm not making $2-3K/month on SS. Most of these people are paying rent around $600/month. I do have experience with living on a tight budget (about $1K/month). I feel I have realistic expectations. I know I won't live like a Queen, but nor am I going to in the U.S either for sure - even moreso (actually less so)! My $ will certainly go further there.
I have found an area or two where I can find very inexpensive rent (unfurnished). I would have startup funds, some savings, some medical coverage & credit card for emergencies & funds always to fly back to the states if I find this just isn't my cup of tea.
Sorry for the late reply. Try my Facebook account Ex-Pensive_Expats. I don't always get notifications. Sounds like you should come and explore. Worst case I think you'd have a great adventure / Vacation. Where do you live now?
If you come here then you can see first hand the food shopping rentals in areas you feel comfortable etc etc. You will see how welcoming the locals can be.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat thank you so much for your reply. I live in Michigan.

That looks great. I would like a place like yours a House with a wall around it and plenty of room and options to make changes.
Yes that can definitely work here
Good video my friend, there are always going to be people who will hate, and the reason that they do is jealousy, all I can say is do you and not let people who will never come to the Philippines hate, Honestly I am impressed with how you have managed your life there and are enjoying your life, Thanks
Thank you and I am expanding more about that in my next video
Thank you for the information you are sharing!
My pleasure!
Just found your channel , like your style , keep up the good work ....... oh , from Canada and 63 yrs od ..
Thank you Terry!!
With discipline and careful budgeting I agree it can be done. Entire families in the PH often live on less so one westerner living a hybrid PH/Western lifestyle can do it. My fiancé and I average $2k a month just outside of Cebu City and that includes one nice long weekend a month nice domestic travel so I believe $1-1.2k can be done if one gives up eating out all the time and vices like smoking and more than occasional drinking. Good video.
Thank you my friend!!
As always. Another great video. Always looking forward to your videos.
Thanks again my friend. Are you from the Poway area?

I'm just taking a break from working on it now
Good points, especially about adapting to culture. I think the folks who say you need $2-3K US/mo to live in SE Asia are trying to import their western lifestyle and just live a more affordable version of it. That's their prerogative, but that's not why I visited Asia or why I will soon be returning there. Thanks for the videos.
Yes I'm living a good life and I don't make even $2K a month
Thanks Brother, Best channel on the web. Keep up the good work. Mike from Argao

Are you living in the Philippines?
Amazing 👏 thanks for sharing.
You're welcome my friend!!
I am thinking of retirement there. I never expected to get old, so I didn't plan for it. After all the monthly budget films for the Philippines, $1000 a month is a minimum for living in the Provinces. As far as I can tell, it seems to come down to rent. Do more vids. 👍
More than just rent. Check out my "$600 Realistic Budget" video. I think you'll see what I mean
I'm currently here doing it on 1k a month. And as the video says, it's definitely doable for less than that. 1k is my budget though, not my income.
@@Not_A_Tourist I do it when I am not building or traveling far!
Really great stuff, man! I love watching your vids ...keep 'em coming! I'll be getting there eventually. 👍 Until then, God bless! Stay safe & well ...
Hey there. Nice to see your comment again. How are you?? We'll leave the light on for you
I agree, how much money 💰 one needs depends on what lifestyle one wants to live. I will try Cebu, but I might need to live in a smaller city.
If you can find a cheap place to start then it makes it easier to travel and easier to change your mind. One thing for sure. You will change when you come here over time or probably wouldn't want to stay longterm. Embrace the change my friend

Dude, you are living the life! I want the same thing you have. You really opened my eyes to possibilities I didn't know existed in the Philippines. Yes I found that out too after I research and found out what it costs to park an RV
Another awesome vid! Porac is exactly the type of place that calls to me. The other "more popular" places would be fun to visit, but think day to day Porac is more my style.

Thanks for the video, too many with these higher budget videos which is fine if you have it but not a reality for most and telling someone to stay away if you don't have that amount does not help either. Hello Kim. Thank you my friend.
thanks for the content. :)
You're welcome
Wonderful to see you again my friend, you have recovered quite quickly and sound much better, I hope you are feeling back to your usual self.
I won't have as much as you in my state pension next year when I qualify, but like yourself I cannot afford to live in the UK, but I could afford to live there I think if I choose to make the move. They moved the retirement age for state pension by upping the age to 66, how nice of the government, lol!
The cost of living has risen so much that it is difficult just to exist let alone retire and travel, where is the life you should have after working for most of it! But you have shown a way....thank goodness.
The high earners and the wealthier people don't notice because they can afford to live a good life and retirement for those people these vlogs of yours are not for them! I don't think the majority of them are even aware that food has doubled in cost in recent years sometimes morel, as they most probably throw away more food in one week due to expiry date and abundance, than most average people have in one month!
It is great that you show people how living and travelling is possible on a budget, and I love the way you narrate your trips show the surroundings and include the full cost. You even show decent places to live, for not a lot of your money, including renovating on a budget to bring the standards up for our comfort and what we are used to.
To me you are a STAR at what you do, and I for one appreciate all your hard work making the videos for us. So THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH. Take care, hope to see you soon.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I look forward to meeting you. In the past it made more sense to retire later increasing the monthly income. There are those who preach always retire early. I have never been one of them. But in the west it's has gotten so expensive it becomes hard just to stay and continue to work. Exactly as you've pointed out. For life style reasons I am including those who qualify as those I'm encouraging to come visit and plan your retirement
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Aaaww you're welcome, and you deserve all the praise myself and others can give you, your vlogs are so well made. Just look at all your hard work to show people how retirement can work for those with limited funds, its more than helpful! One question though, why did you choose the Philippines and not Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia or Thailand?
The English language is an official language of the Philippines. It's taught in schools. That is probably the number one reason that got me leaning in this direction. The people and culture closed the deal!!
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I did wonder if speaking English was your main reason for choosing the Philippines, plus the friendliness in general, thanks for responding by the way much appreciated as always....food is rarely a
positive though, I think that is why some people choose, Thailand, Malaysia, as well as an excellent transport system such as an efficient and modern train system which is inexpensive too.
Yes I have heard many times that others prefer Malaysia Thailand and Vietnam because of the food and infrastructure
Funny you mention the RV...so true.
I personally think car living will be a very popular lifestyle to avoid rent, electric, and property taxes that a re out of control. I even think "secure" parking lots will become a thing for car-dwellers to spend the night and maybe have some amenities.
Hey Dan I like it. I'm ashamed I didn't think of it myself Haha. Safe Place parking. Shared bathrooms showers etc. Have common out door eating tables wifi etc. Maybe cooler rentals or micro storage at the front of each parking spot. $400 a months depend ing on location. Mail address. I appreciate your videos guy. Just before I watched this one....I started watching a video of an expat talking about how if you want to live comfortably you can't do it on anything less than $2500. I much prefer your lifestyle than 'living a western lifestyle'. Oh....by the way, I am living in a bedroom with a walk in closet for $400. Average rent around here where I live is 1700 for a one bedroom. You have to make 3 times and they want first, last, security (which is one month's rent). So to move in I need $5100.
Thank you for the comments Doug. Always nice to hear from you. Yes there are those guys who say that. And this video is my answer to that. It always amazes me how people can say that. I feel like what is it that costs so much you'd need in order to be happy?? I curious to see that video. I mean was in meant to encourage or discourage?
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Im not sure how it was meant. I do know that it could tend to discourage those who may think they have to low of income to make it over there.
I try to give my experience so people can see if that works for them. I try not to give advise except to say come for a visit before you move if you're not sure
Folks don't want to admit the last 3 1/2 years devastated the elderly and cost of living
Yes and it was bad when I left!
Thanks again for great info, I'm Australian and trying to figure out the budget as I've mentioned before, now set on finding a similar roof over our, me, my Filipina and her young son, head as a rental and leaving enough in a bank account to do similar as you on a 2 monthly basis, I think you are in a great place, rural but close enough to the city conveniences and healthcare, airport for trips, just the way I like it too, my budget will most likely be around 1100 US give or take....thanks again 😊
Hi Dennis. Yes I remember you my friend. I strongly suggest you come for a visit and secure a place here before moving your family. Your start up expenses would include rental deposits buying dishes towels etc. If you came in August and everything hit right away then you'r family could follow in September as an example. What area is her family from. Could you house with them until you find the place to live. Once you've found a suitable place to live everything else should fall into place. As far as budgets I stand with the $600 a month budget I made. From that budget the big variable are food and rent. So how you choose to eat and where you plan to rent you could decide shortly after you come
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat thanks mate, I am probably still about 4 years away for being able to do so, in the meantime I try to come over 2 times a year for a few weeks. She lives in Negros Occidental I think it is called, about 2 hrs inland from Dumaguete and half an hour from Kabankalan, living with her I would be struggling with, she lives with her brother, mother and young son in a hollow block house with tin roof, no windows, in the province sleeping on the floor, no running water, cooking on wood, I would need a bit more comfort than that, although I have no problem with living more basic...🙂

Correct my friend. I on the other had didn't completely learn that until I had been here a while
I figure it has to be cooler in Lazon then it's in Cebu. That's why I am going to check out Lazon area for my future retirement.
You should check it out either way. Cebu is a popular destination. But Luzon has a lot to offer also
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I checked out Cebu this past Dec. But not want to live full time where so many x-pats are at. Like you said in your video I can always visit the area.
I'm the only expat here in my area but there are hundreds in about 10 miles from here
Also people may actually afford a domestic helper as they age. People are actually genuie and the culture doesnt disrespect the elders. But most importantly for many aged people: no stress over running out of heat.
Well said and spot on!! Thank you Loren!
So cool I'd love to go, my arthritis so bad though
I think mine has gotten better. I've been thinking it's the food. But mine may have been gout. I was never professionally diagnosed. Which ever it has been it's gotten better. I didn't know knuckles could ever shrink back down once they had grown in size and shape. Regardless of what it was. Maybe do some research or ask your DR. Then let me know if I can help
The Philippines look beautiful. How is the wildlife/spider/dangerous animal situation there?
I don't really get spiders or mosquitos where I've lived. They do exist here. I've had it much worse in the States. I guess it can be bad here but no where I've actually been has it been a problem
I am not old enough to start ss but I am 50 and fell and injured my shoulder. I am on short term disability right now.
If you get a chance to come for a visit it's a great place for and adventure
How much was the daily room cost to stay in Valencia? Great video, thank you! Keep preaching to us brother
My room was P 1,000. If you're a camper they had spaces starting at P500 and family rooms that held up to 10 for P 5,000. For purposes of this video budget I used P 1,500
You're giving me some great ideas. I'm in Australian Married to a Filipino. We plan on retiring somewhere in the Philippines mabey Bohol Siargao or Elnido
Are you living here now or just visiting? I do plan to tour those areas and I also plan to search for properties while I am traveling for my subscribers as I tour the Philippines
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat We live in a suburb of Brisbane Australia. I travelled with my wife to the Philippines in 2022. We spent 3 1/2 Weeks there. Visiting El Nido coron Manila Cebu Moalboal. We're going back in November. Jen grew up in Cebu. I enjoyed El Nido so much that we're going to go back . We also plan on visiting Siquijor and Bohol.

@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Nice.Who knows maybe we'll catch up for a beer
I'd like that!!
How do you find places to rent there? I’m looking around the Bagac area. It seems that many of these places are word of mouth, or at least it appears that way. Subscribed! Really appreciate all the work you do.
Yes my friend thank you for subscribing. Definitely word of mouth. Having been in my areas for a while I also notice other properties where no one lives and then see if the owner will rent to me
Hey bro I have my footage pulled into my PC now. I first wanted to take the time to organize it cuz editing vids is a lot easier later when you know where certain files or background music is. Or other little effects or sound effects etc.
I have the start of my first vid & hope to have it completed by end of this weekend. I may try catching up with you soon. I saw a vid recently of a guy who admits he lives in BGC maybe the most expensive place because of retired foreigners, then goes on to say that every single channel who says you can live well with 1k or less are flat out liars. At first it upset me, but if they don't have the perspective or experience to know otherwise so be it. That just means that if you are being honest with people & breaking down the costs & possibilities in the Philippines those people can sub to your channel. Those who want to never leave the condo concrete tourist jungle can say like he does you need at least 3k to 5k per month US lol.
Hahaha... You can address that in a live chat. What's his channel name. Yes I'm anxious to see your video. Good to hear from you
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I cant remember the name, but I can narrow it. It was an old white guy lol. I just remember him rambling about unless you can survive never eating out, not having AC, not having plumbing & having to wash with a bucket etc. & it seemed like he has lived in the PH for a while, but I guess the girls he has dated & where he goes he has gotten wildly ripped off lol. My entire trip counting the $1300 round trip plane tickets didn't cost me $3000 lol.
Maybe it's the women that are his biggest expense after all
Tanduay Is GREAT RUM ! When traveling though the Philippines they have signs on ever road when You go into a new town.
Yes I have seen them many time too. What area did you travel?
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I rode my motorcycle through 10 islands. Luzon , Samar, Leyte, mindanao, Cebu, Mactan, bohol, panglao, siquijor, negros, Panay, at least 60 or more places
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat flying back into Clark in September to get my motorcycle in Angeles then going to ride through Borneo, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand. I am hoping to like Thailand and maybe retire there ?
Wow. very nice my friend!
Those places sound so interesting. Especially Borneo and Brunei,
This all is fine with a nice emergency fund.. perhaps one can even create a savings surplus to rely upon if we are able to start the lifestyle healthy for a few years. Not using funds to aid someone's needy family will be a key factor. I can easily do a $1,000 a month budget, maybe not permanently.. I have a place to live rent-free in a great area. But this is all dependent on the family I will be surrounded by. 😂
Good luck with that John. I include "Family" in Lifestyle expenses . No other way to find your basic monthly costs. If you can afford an emergency fund you're better off than many now in the states. Before I left the states every month was an emergency. An emergency fund since I got here is easy though. Just needs to be a matter of habit. In my basic budget I only included the minimum to survive as it would compare to American budgets. If you had enough monthly left after the basics in America, then saving money was an option before you came and already a habit. So although highly recommended I don't include emergency funds saving account in my budgets. My budgets are not based on what should be done with ample cashflow. I use my budgets so those considering a move here can compare the basic survival costs for comparison purposes.
@Ex-Pensive_Expat I'm sure an extra $500 a month would get gobbled up by all the family compound needs that arise. Repairs on homes..Grandma doctor bills.. kids school supplies. Roasted pigs here and there. Trip to Baguio once and a while. Travel to the Manila area on occasion. Scooter costs. But at least my free rent helps. My food needs are simple like the natives normally eat. Emergency fund for a yearly trip back home shouldn't be a problem. Living under $1k is easy but things happen and people cry and beg or get Tampo
The more I've donated the more requests I receive. It's getting easier to say no and know when to say it
👍🏻😁
Do you not find yourself being to hot wearing your woolly beanie hat in that heat, I have been watching your videos for the last year and have never seen you without your hat on in your videos....lol. Keep it up with your great informative videos.
The hats are acrylic so not as hot as wool. I've had skin cancer twice plus a bit of an ugly scar on the top of my head. So a bit of protection and a bit of vanity tbh. I have a size 8 hats size so almost impossible to find hats that also protect my ears. Plus you'll notice I'm always out door when I video and always cover up when I am out doors
Are you in a flood zone.. I checked the map just west of you at the coast line and I read its marshy , has any of that concerned you? Your location looks far from danger but wanted to know your personal opinion. Happy to see your uploads??? The world is really so big and beautiful and modern technology really spreads the opportunities… not like 50 years ago… but now we can do so much that the central city is not as necessary, how’s your thoughts? All the best
The area around near me doesn't have a flood problem. About 10 miles away is an area called GuaGua. That area floods often. Being near sea level it's never too serious or last very long. The flooding there happens often so they're set up to deal with it and used to it.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat glad to hear! Love your walk arounds and information sharing.
Thank you my friend
New subscriber here. Thats a nice resort. Where is it?
The resort is in Valencia near Dumaguete
AWESOME VIDEO, GIVES HOPE TO MANY FOLKS, GOOD JOB.
Thanks for that!

QUESTION: You mention you had five internet at your house there...How fast is the fiber there, and how reliable (including normal storms that blow through seasonally)??
I like the whole idea of sub-$1k/mo lifestyle
I am not sure of the actual speed. But a 1080 10 minute video takes about 10 minutes
It very rarely goes out. I don't really get many brown out here like the do in Dumaguete and Valencia. They get it a lot there and since there are so many vloggers from there you hear about it a lot it a lot.
How much is the average SS check amount for expats over there in PH? My projected SS check at age 70 will be $3,610 a month (if I wait til 70 to collect). I wont be living retiring in Manila nor Cebu but in Cagayan De oro area.😊
Average is exactly half of that!!
I know someone living in the Philippines only getting $1200 a month....it's very possible but there is a CATCH ..my friend bought his house in the Philippines before he moved...He has a car payment in the Philippines and let's just say he lives paycheck to paycheck...last year his Son died in the US and he could not afford to go to the funeral...in April his Sister died in the US and same thing happened...if you talk about Quality of life you have to include emergency or health issues..my friend is 78 yrs old with no medical insurance....
Okay. He's 78 with a car payment but no health insurance ? That's a life choice my friend. I've only given my budget from my experience and that was a$600 a month. Not my place to tell him to sell his car, buy insurance and save for emergency. I'm just curious what quality of life he would have there on $1,200. What would his car payment insurance and registration be out of that $1,200 a month. What kind of house would he have with the amount he paid for the house he has here. What would that paycheck to paycheck life style look like there? Property taxes there?? Just curious....
I tell everyone to spend 30 days in a small town in province and live as cheap as you can. You can have 10,000 USD a month for retirement income and suddenly your income gets gut down to 1,400 dollars a month can you still handle this lesser lifestyle. People need to understand life happens and money issues can happen for many reasons like another depression, war, of flat-out bank failure. Just see what your bottom comfort limit is for a lifestyle change.
There is a lot to be said for the simple life. Certainly a lot less stress. Until you've experienced a lot less stress, Don't knock it!
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I have many trips back to a small town of around 20,000 people and love it. after 9 pm the town is closed for the most part
I am 20 minutes from Angeles City to San Fernando / 90 minutes to Manila. So no shortage of night life here if I ever felt the calling.
I'm trying to figure out how to get best cost on flying from Tennessee to Philippines
I used to check several times every day. I would google cheap flights to the Philippines. Try different routes. I had my best luck finding very short term flights like with in a few days or weeks when they went unsold. Taking longer flights like the 2 or 3 day types and then look for a pod in the air ports to sleep along the way
