    Thanks for the video - well done. We are despirate to help a feral cat in our neighborhood whose pads were somehow badly injured, BUT the cat will not let us even try to hold him still to help. We trapped him and took him to the emergency vet - 60 miles away - 5 weeks ago (who said pads were burned) -- they sedated the cat - pretty much made him zone out so he could be handled --and gave antiboitic shot and cleaned up the cat best they could. We brought him home and have confined hime to a bedroom to heal and get better overall. He is much better but still bleeding from from paw pads because he licks them. Bottom line, he will not let us hold him for any type meds. I'm sure you can't help in such situations, but would love to know some way to calm down/sedate the cat so we can do as you've suggested in the video. Very frustrating for us and the cat. Sorry to ramble. Note: Yes, we could take him again to the vet that treated him, but we just do not have the 400 dollars to do this again.

    Do not use hydrogen peroxide according to my kitties Vet as it burns the skin and hurts them. if you do so, they will remember you "as the person hurting them" and will either hiss at you/ bite you any chance they get or leave you and never see you again.
    Solution: Wash with warm water, mild soap, rinse and dry thoroughly then apply an Antiseptic cream once all the dirt came off. You would need to do this multiple times since sometimes, the dirt is hard to remove. You also have an option to soak the paw to water, that is if they are used to the water. Wrap the bandage, put a cone to prevent them from licking off the cream, and keep them indoor for at least 7 days for the wound to heal. Apply the cream once for 7 days.
    You can also boil Guava leaves as this also contains Antiseptic properties if you can't afford a cream. The last option would be hydrogen peroxide but dilute it in an equal part of water. I repeat: this is your last option as this hurts them.
    Since I have no one to help me with handling my avoidant kitties (everyone's afraid to be bitten), I'll just do what the other person did on this video- wrap them in a warm soft towel. Good luck to all of us :)

    I'll pass on my experience dealing with an injured cat paw. My cat got a bad scrape on the side of a toe between his toes. He also licked his wound obsessively until it bled.
    Assuming a simple wound (no stitches, not terribly big) and the cat is an indoor cat...
    You'll need:
    Self adhesive bandage
    "Cast padding" This is a cotton strip about 1 cm in thickness
    A roll of cotton gauze
    Gauze squares, about 2x2
    Silver based antibiotic ointment
    Scissors to cut the strips
    Medical tape
    A rigid cone aka "elizabethan collar" or "e-collar". Should go about 2 inches beyond their nose and should be tied around the neck tight enough that you can barely get a pinkie between it and the neck. Any looser and they can find ways to pull it off.
    1. Take them to a vet. Let them examine them for breaks, infection, etc. Once the vet has cleaned the wound they will bandage it.
    2. You will need to replace the dressing about every 12 hrs or so and after about 4 days let it air dry. This depends on how the wound looks of course.
    3. Now keep a cone on them. Use a hard cone. A cat will figure out how to bend a soft cone to reach their paw. They can even dig their hind claws into it and pull it off. If they aren't coned they may obsessively lick their wound until it is raw.
    4. When redressing them you need two people. One to hold them and another to do the dressing. Put the cone on so they don't try to bite. Wrap the cat in a towel pretty snuggly then press on them a bit with your upper body. If it is a back paw one arm will also be by the tail blocking the tail and the other paw. The injured paw should be on top, not resting on the table. The cone should still be on them.
    5. Remove the dressing by unwinding it. The self-adhesive bandage should come off easily once you find the start and you can even reuse it if it is clean.
    6. Check the bandage to see how much the wound has wept. Examine the wound to see if it is healing, signs of infection, etc. If it looks worse bring them to the vet. Now take a damp towel and gently clean the paw then pat it dry the best you can. Do not rub the wound.
    7. Apply an antibiotic ointment, preferably a silver one, liberally around the wound.
    8. Now make a stack of some 2x2 gauze pads and put them around the toes like a toe cap.
    9. Wrap the cast padding ribbon around the paw (see note).
    10. Wrap the gauze ribbon around the paw (see note).
    11. Wrap the self adhesive bandage around the paw. Be careful to not make it too tight. It should be firm, but still squishy. GO ALL THE WAY UP PAST THE ANKLE. If you don't go above the ankle the cat can shake or pull the dressing off. This will impede their ability to bend their foot so they may have trouble jumping and such but this is better than not healing.
    * After about 4 days you can consider letting it go unbandaged and air dry. The wound shouldn't be weeping at this point though.
    * After about 10 days you can consider removing the cone and consider them healed but it depends on the condition of course. If it still looks red keep the cone on and check with a vet.
    Wrapping:
    *Start about midway up the top of the paw and go forward over the toes then under the paw to the ankle then start wrapping down toward the toes.
    *About 2/3 of the way to the toes angle it across the front of the toes then wrap around then back up the other side of the toes making a figure 8. Work your way back up to the ankle.
    *When doing the outer bandage you can finish with a securing loop of medical tape around the top but make sure it isn't wrapped on the fur, only the bandage.
    Warnings:
    * Do not feel sorry for them and take the cone off without supervising them closely. The cat may respond to the bandage by trying to gnaw it off and create another wound. Only let them go cone free if you can supervise them or are absolutely sure they are not chewing on it. Remember, a few days of an unhappy cat is much better than a losing a paw to an infection.
    * When letting the wound air dry make sure the cone is on them until the wound is fully healed. About 10 more days. Only remove the cone to let them eat, bathroom, etc with full supervision and in a room they can't run out of and hide.
    * Vets can provide an anti-anxiety medication that may help your cat during this stressful time. Slip it into food because it is bitter. The Greenies brand makes pill pocket snacks that are good for this.
    * Again, don't cheat on the cone! If your cat goes after the wound you could end up all the way back at square one or even worse!

    My cat injured his paw and he was bleeding profusely. Bleeding all over my house! I was so worried and freaked out because it looked like a deep cut. I took him to the vet and the vet applied pressure on the wound, and did the dressing. He gave him some injections too but turn out when I came back home my cat started licking it and trying to remove the dressing. I tried to hold him for a long time and then after some time he removed the dressing gosh! And he was bleeding again. Then it stopped bleeding and I was relieved. But now he has started bleeding again and I'm really freaking out. I gave 1k to the vet even tho it's not my cat, he visits my house to eat but I'm attached to him. Times like this I feel I should have studied veterinary. I'm unemployed and I can't afford to pay so much. I don't know even after paying so much my poor cat is still in pain. I feel helpless.

I called the vet and said that my cat that I found a year and something ago that you told me was a male had just given birth to 4 litters. He laughed and said "oops, it turned out a female huh?" Some vets are so ridiculously expensive. Rony our cat got bitten in its paw vet says is $289. Just for blood test. Wtfk just for covid19 test or is it different "rona" i though he would stich him up done deal nope. I can't afford it so I'm going to try my best just to do it my self I've been giving him antibiotics that I pay and put some curcuma in the wound. After I clean it with salt water.
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge dr.

    Yeah my cat takes the cone off and bites off the bandage. He keeps on scratching his nose until it bleeds. He's been doing this for a long time now and whenever I try to bandage it and put a cone on him as well, he uses his back legs to remove the cone off of him. It happens all the time and now I've given up :/

    • @Gigipretty64
      @Gigipretty64 3 роки тому

      True Believers That sounds like it could be ringworm or another skin infection, fleas or mites actively irritating his nose. I’d go to the vet if it’s still going on, they may take a scrapping and look at it under the microscope to determine the cause.

    • @maryamz.1772

      @@Gigipretty64 Yes! We found out it was ringworm and now I'm ready worried because I've been touching the other pets that I have and I'm scared it could've been transferred to them as well but they show no sign and I've been touching them both for a long time.

    • @Gigipretty64
      @Gigipretty64 3 роки тому

      True Believers I wouldn’t worry too much if they are showing no symptoms, some cats immune systems can fight it off more easily. If you’re really worried get an anti-fungal spray or wash and treat them topically once over. And clean their bedding, toys etc. at least if the others show symptoms you’ll know what you’re dealing with now. I use something like this C&G | Anti Fungal Dog Fresh Perfume Spray 250ml | Lasting Dogs Deodorising Grooming Cologne | Anti Fungal Spearmint Orange Chamomile Essential Oils Freshener | Unpleasant Smells Eliminator Perfumes www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07H7NJPKX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_oE-zFb247ZKNP or Beaphar Anti-Ringworm Spray For Small Animals 50ml www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002GT8P9Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_dF-zFbA76WR50

      @@Gigipretty64 My cats been showing symptoms for a very very long time. You see, it's our first time figuring out our cat has got a ringworm and we didn't know where it came from. He's been scratching his nose even worse for a whole now and his whole face becomes bloody & his nose becomes swollen red. We did everything we could, like bandaging his arms or using every single cone we possibly could, but he's like an invincible cat and removes literally every single one of those cones. Even through all this, we still put a donut looking cone on him to keep him from scratching his face.
      Yeah, he still takes it off but we keep put it back on & now we're taking him a sulfur bath 2 times a week.
      Also, not only his paws but his paws even grew worse. He has bald, bloody spots on them. It's truly saddening bc he never used to look like this and he's in a bad condition. Were trying our best but who knows if it's gonna go away in 6 weeks and if he's going to cooperate. :(
      Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS!

    • @Gigipretty64
      @Gigipretty64 3 роки тому

      True Believers No worries. Try trimming his claws so they are blunt. Any pet safe anti fungal treatment should help your kitty. Good luck and I hope your cat gets better soon. :-)
