Henry Rollins is an interesting dude. Definitely an artist. He was the lead singer of the punk band Black Flag for a period. He has done a one man spoken word tour. He has done quite a bit of acting/movies. Definitely one of a kind.
Henry Rollins is intellectual. I've always felt that he wrote this song in the "third person" as a public service message to help society see beyond the facade to better guard ourselves. I think Lex sees it as a good break up song because the main character is coming clean and being honest about his behavior... and that's something we all long for after a breakup but rarely get. It's cathartic. Another Rollins song I would highly recommend is "Low Self Opinion", it's another deep rocker!
Ya man. There are soooo many girls who need to hear this song! It pairs well with that scene in Team America where the main character promises not to die so that he can sleep with the agent lol
Rollins has a great story about meeting David Lee Roth at some function in the early 80s. They both knew each other and Dave pulled out a cold beer from his coat pocket and gave it to Henry and said, "How about THAT?!" Imagine those two talking to each other. That must've been something else. They're of the same mold despite their disparate music styles. Both love talking at the very least, but both are smart and witty and offbeat characters.
Henry is a personal hero of mine... His spoken word is fantastic... The man has lived one hell of an interesting life! I've always admired his focus on things...
There is nothing extended, it's just the album version. For radio and video it was cut (mixed with some alternate stuff). But yeah, it's the "right" version, the one that should be heard!
I like this song a lot and stayed up until the middle of the night to hear it on the live stream (I live in England). Henry Rollins was the vocalist for Black Flag, a hardcore punk band which I loved. When they split up, Henry formed his own band and I saw them play on 3 occasions. Always an intense experience, with Henry giving it 100% emotional energy and commitment.
I love the book Get In The Van, when Henry talked shit on all the English bands that dogged them, like Chelsea, and that other lame stuff. Euro trash was afraid of Henry!
He's still an annoying egomaniac...I like a lot of his music but I can only listen to him talk for like 5 minutes before I just wanna yell at him to stfu.
Thank you for this reaction! This song is amazing. Showing narcissistic abuse before it was ever spoke about 25 plus years ago. It resonates with me personally because I was in that situation, and I think a lot of people can identify as well.. great job as always
Every young person should listen to this song before starting to date. Sadly we all learn the hard way when it comes to narcissistic abuse but it's a lesson you will never forget once you learn it and you learn how to spot them and avoid them.
Henry Rollins is not only a serious Rock Star with mucho street cred, but he is a writer, spoken word artist, historian, public speaker, civil rights activist, producer and all around modern day renaissance man.
If you've ever dealt with a true sociopathic or narcissistic person you understand this song. They're awful people. My War and Rise Above by Black Flag with Henry as the lead singer are good songs too. Black Flag also does a great live cover of Louie Louie from their "Who's Got the 10 1/2 Inch" album. Live off the album, not live on stage... ua-cam.com/video/UrMd1meC_2I/v-deo.html
Rollins is fascinating. He’s been on my radar forever; since I was a kid in the early 80s listening to Black Flag. Dudes a decent actor too. Does spoken word tours still to this day I believe. He had a crazy childhood.

First show Henry ever did with Black Flag,. someone jumped on stage and broke his nose because they didn't know he was the new singer. He proceeded to sing, and blow everyone away, the rest is history. He was known for fighting people during the show, just busting lips open and knocking fools out.

Love Henry Rollins, and such a teenage angsty song. I've seen him live doing spoken word years later, and such a global citizen, with deep views on so many things.
If you want a laugh try reading the Henry & Glenn books, which are comics that portray Henry and Glenn Danzig as lovers (in a sweet way), and living next door to Hall & Oates. Henry himself thought the comics were a laugh, but cautioned against ever showing them to Glenn in person as he would most definitely not appreciate the humor.
I saw Henry Rollins in Canada when he warmed up for The Beastie Boys in the mid 90’s. Great show! Rollins opened up the show playing a cover of the Beastie Boys song Gratitude!
If his voice sounds similar to the spoken word part of TOOL's song "Bottom", well, that would be Mr. Rollins himself. They toured together for a short time.
I've always loved this song ever since it was released. My ex-wife absolutely loathed this song. She's my ex because I realized she was a stone cold liar. That's probably why she hated it so much; she felt like it was calling her out, making her think about what a piece of sh** she was. Lex is right, it's a good breakup song. Every time I play it I think about how much she hated hearing it and it puts a smile on my face as I turn the volume up.
Glad you guys got here. The Rollins Band's bass player Andrew Weiss produced/engineered most of Ween's records and played bass for them a bit before the whole band came together. Ween songs to check out - Buckingham Green, Stay Forever, Ocean Man, Sweatheart In The Summer, Blue Balloon, The Final Alarm(public access tv video)

Rollins is very bright and involved with a lot of other things outside of music these days. Including politics, acting, author, etc I think yall have seen him on movies before. Also he is muscular as hell ha!

Also, you guys need to expand on Corey Taylor, not just Slipknot, but his other projects too! Take care - Love the channel!!
1000x YES…every song on “End of Silence”, “Come in and Burn”, and the other songs on this album (Weight) are better than Liar. But this is the only song from Rollins Band I ever heard on the radio or on MTV back in the day, so it’s the only one most people know. It was the “hit”.
Can not believe you got to this - wow. Saw these guys at lollapalooza way back when. Going to recommend Low self Opinion, Another Life, and Grip from the album The End of Silence by Rollins Band but Henry Rollins is definitely a rabbit hole.

Rollins lol. Former front man of Black Flag. (Story telling time) I remember having a friend asking me to go see Black Flag at the exit inn in Nashville when I returned from overseas. So, me and my brother went, and I noticed a ton of Vandy students there and when the show started it was crazy. Henry Rollins maybe sung 3 to 5 words of whatever opening song it was and the crowd sang the rest. In fact, all Rollins did was prompt them when to start the rest of the show and the band played while he cheered the crowd on the rest of the way. My brother turned to me (older brother) and said, "This is the craziest shit I have ever seen." Yep, I pretty much felt the same way. Although I didn't follow that band much it left a lasting crazy memory.
Wow, nice! I haven't heard this since it was in regular rotation on MTV. I didn't like it much then and definitely didn't get it musically or lyrically. Now it's like a whole new song. I get it now. Very good.
😆 I remember this. The actual video is funny too. Forgot about this! 1995? Rollins Band was a jazzy punk band. " Low Self Option" was another video/song that I remember. Great choice to review… one of my favourite artists of all time. Also saw one of his spoken words live in Vancouver. If you like him, and his dark sense of humour, check out the band/project he did between Black Flag and the Rolling Band. It was called “Henrietta and the Wife Beating Childhaters”. Great music…
ua-cam.com/video/xcvRzc_eF6U/v-deo.html One of my favorites, although “I Have Come To Kill You” is a close 2nd (get a lot of looks when driving around with this playing LOUD).
Henry Rollins is a genius and one the nicest guys on the planet!! Ive been to see many of his talks and meetings when he hits the UK - hanging out after he is just a sheer and utter legend !! Check out band he was in - Black Flag 🥳
I have to add one more recommendation that I just remembered, Rollins Band did a cover of Led Zeppelin's Four Sticks on the tribute album Encomium that I prefer over the original, and I LOVE Zep.**EDIT** I forgot this one too somehow, When Rollins did a guest vocal for Tool, it's badass. ua-cam.com/video/O7VmBC19P5M/v-deo.html
'Land of Confusion' and 'Liar' on the same day?? You guys are reacting to some great song choices. (You really needed to see Liar's great video though. Really complimented the song.)
In the video he jumps out painted red like the devil screaming “Im a liar!” Check it out. Also check out old school Clutch - Binge & Purge, it is a little similar, but better imo
Check out Delicate Tendrils by Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel. Les Claypool on instruments, Henry Rollins on spoken word vocals. Dark and intense stuff.
I can recommend checking out some of Henry's 'spoken word/stand-up' stuff. Dude, has had some crazy things happen to him and has some really funny stories to tell.
So cool and outstanding that you also react to stuff like that: I was a Teenie in the 90ies and a rebellion girl. Rollins band was huge for me as well. But still I am some kind of scared when I watch the video and Henry Rollins… I would still choose the other pavement when I see him 🤣! Although I know he does so many projects (lyrics, music,…) that proof that he is a gentle, sensitive soul… so never judge a Book by its cover! By the way: you have to watch the music-video!
Mr. Rollins is bringing his spoken word tour to my humble little town (Albany NY) and I'm tempted to go. I've heard it's an experience or "a whole vibe" as the kids would say, but what if I don't like it or have to use the restroom I'd be ascared to get up and walk out.
Go, he is amazing live! The stories he tells about his travels are really great…I’ve been to more of his spoken word stuff than his music stuff (both are great, but he doesn’t do much music anymore).
Henry Rollins is an interesting dude. Definitely an artist. He was the lead singer of the punk band Black Flag for a period. He has done a one man spoken word tour. He has done quite a bit of acting/movies. Definitely one of a kind.

U gotta see the music video. On the liar part hes shirtless and painted red. His facial expressions are funny as hell.
Oh man, I love this song! I haven't heard it in such a long time.
I like this song. Not a fan or the Rollins Band but a big fan of Henry Rollins and all the other things je does. Very smart man.
prettty random choice but also pretty cool-have seen rollins band a couple times and they didn t disappoint

One of my favorites, although “I Have Come To Kill You” is a close 2nd (get a lot of looks when driving around with this playing LOUD).
Henry Rollins is a genius and one the nicest guys on the planet!! Ive been to see many of his talks and meetings when he hits the UK - hanging out after he is just a sheer and utter legend !!
Check out band he was in - Black Flag 🥳
Lex says “pretty chill”….Wait for it lol
The Liar could be a preacher, politician, friend etc... anybody, not just a lover. Perhaps the Liar is drugs, alcohol.
I remember when Rollins Band was un Grammys show with this song, one of the Best tv performances ever
I would suggest reacting to Disconnect and Low Self Opinion by Rollins Band.
This song captures a lot of the energy of "My War", which was a song Rollins did when he was a member of Black Flag.
In the video he jumps out painted red like the devil screaming “Im a liar!” Check it out. Also check out old school Clutch - Binge & Purge, it is a little similar, but better imo
This is such an great and horrible song. I fell in love with this from the first time I heard this way back (quick googl') in 1994. :)
Damn the music video is nice. Should probably check it out sometime.
His outfit in the video is SO 'Falling Down.' Remember the film?
@@dancarter482 henry is unforgettably in his look and performances… I remember 😜🤘
Appreciate you stepping out on this. ☺️✌🏼
