    “Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.”
    -Terence Mckenna

    I love tea, but hate coffee. Tea can invigorate or relax, depending type used and company.
    Which tea is something you can drink as a solitary activity, or put the kettle on when someone drops over.
    Nothing, and I mean nothing beats a nice cuppa! :)

    Coffee is horrible. I used to drink it everyday thinking it gave me a boost. NOPE. Get off coffee and you'll notice you feel happier and you have 10x the energy. When you wake up you are not tired and ready to go. If you drink coffee you wake up and you Need coffee to wake up. YUCK

    Coffee is definitely a drug. When I gave up coffee for a week I had flue like symptoms and was really ill with withdrawal symptoms. But I did drink up to 10 cups a day. And now I am back to coffee, I love the smell soooo much.

      I used to drink about 3-4 cups a day just to relieve myself from my constipation symptoms. Then i got addicted and loved the feeling it gives. I stopped and had horrible withdrawals , confusion, muscle twitching, exhaustion , horrible headaches and even vicious panic attacks. I am still in my withdrawal period, in a few weeks ill he fine.

    Coffee is VERY healthy, (organic) when it goes up the body, not down. 8 oz of coffee requires THIRTY-TWO ounces of water just to flush the sludge out of your liver, etc. Thank goodness I've only had it on rare occasions. Why make life any harder for your body than the enduring system already inflicts? Frank Sinatra said that living well is the best revenge. Cup of cocoa barry, anyone? What about good old clean water? LOL. Another great vid. Thank you

    I never had a coffee habit. Smells good, but tastes bad. When I quit sodas a few years ago, I substituted tea. I just couldn't give up both sugar and caffeine at once. When I finally gave up tea, the withdrawals were tougher than I expected. But I've been off caffeine for more than a year now and no longer miss it. I don't think caffeine is a bad addiction, but I just decided I didn't need that addiction anymore. I notice I don't need as much sleep as when I drank caffeine.

    The point is that caffeine is accepted into our society because it helps us work through our working long hours (capitalist society), while marijuana is not accepted in our society because then we wouldn't be motivated enough to (among many other things) (and he's not saying this, I am) fight wars that we don't stop to ask "why are we fighting again?"

    Real capitalism promotes hard work, discovery, education, advancement and a myriad of other great things, but when you end up with a few corporations owning everything then it's no longer real capitalism, it's more like a few corporations replacing government and controlling everything. When you get 1 company dominating in an industry with no competition it's like a type of government who's sole motive is to benefit the shareholders rather than the people.

    Granted there is in fact a valid point to debate. Pardon my candor however but I have never heard of people turning to crime in order to support thier coffee/tea habit! Truth be told-I must agree that I have had headaches associated with not having a morning cup of coffee-indicating the validity that it has the propensity to be habit forming but can still function without.

    None of those things happen to me on weed.
    coffee is a much much much stronger drug in my opinion.
    And lastly.. weed doesnt really get you 'high'. it calms you the fuck down.

    The best type of business is a purely trade based system where things have no intrinsic value and people just trade/share with others based on needs. So if someone created a company to build spaceships then engineers would give their services for fun/advancement, materials companies that liked the idea would give their materials etc. Right now on earth that wouldn't work. Not the way people currently are. People are too greedy/short-sighted right now.

  • @iphone6868
    @iphone6868 12 років тому +1

    IMO it's not capitalism that's the problem, but what capitalism develops into when a few companies eat up everything else. You end up with something that's definitely not capitalism. I think most people don't know what capitalism is and associate capitalism with globalist business. The 2 are separate. Capitalism is simple. Private ownership providing services/goods as opposed to government ownership or providing services/goods for something other than profit.

    Categorizing tea as a "plant drug" tells a very short-sided story about tea. I drink yerba matte, which is green tea. Most people I've talked to drink green tea for the antioxidant benefits, not the caffeine. There is about 30 mg of caffeine in yerba matte (compared to about 100-130 mg of caffeine in coffee).

    @paulagloria pretty much. You're body gets used to and demands for nicotine as a "treat" after an achievement or an exertion ("I need a cigarette now"), and the nicotine releases the hormone dopamine, better known as the "happiness hormone".

    More simply put: caffeine helps create the society we have (buy and sell, but don't think or ask much about it), while marijuana would put our government and it's hierarchy, inequality, $-based interest groups, power, whiteness, patriarchy, bureaucracy, and indifference-to-it's-people at risk.

    This view he has, (after the 2 minute mark) so far as I know, he should actually credit to Terence Mckenna who said the same exact thing in the 90's. Unless he came up with this distinct view on his own with no knowledge of Mckenna, or credits him elsewhere. Mckenna is deceased now, and academia probably writes him off, but he said these things numerous times and could be an interesting and original general philosopher.

      Mozart Jones So....If I have an opinion that originated from another person, I cannot speak that opinion without crediting the person who first spoke that opinion? God knows how many people I have to credit every time I speak against vaccines or for legal abortion...or speak about how I choose to bring up my children - alot of books to refer to!!!!

    • @uniquename846
      @uniquename846 9 років тому

      Betina Mikkelsen Well, if you have no knowledge of the prior thinking that matches your own, I suppose that's alright. If you do have an influence from a thinker who's ideas you like, it doesn't hurt to mention them now and then. I just thought Mckenna was a great example of someone who is most likely demonized by academia, and actually I was thinking that in a case like his a general university professor might hypothetically not be too keen on mentioning him.

    A question a more calm, relaxed, creative person (a person, say, who might like to smoke marijuana)--like the many of our great musicians (mostly in the past now) who would question our government--would ask. Marijuana and its effects might bring more peaceful, thorough thinkers to our ever-in-war nation; and we absolutely wouldn't want that.

  • @Strangepete
    @Strangepete 10 років тому +29

    Why coffee is legal and marijuana is illegal. Coffee makes you more focused and alert, capable of working long hours it was made more socially acceptable to drink during the industrial revolution. Marijuana makes you question the system and makes you uninterested in working long hours in order to make a lot of money and buy a lot of shit! And yes I love the taste and ritual of coffee as much as the next guy but I view it as a potent serious drug, just a culturally accepted drug which everyone have been indoctrinated into viewing as perfectly harmless. It's just presupposed normality and we don't question it and wonder what effects it has on our mood, sleep patterns and overall health.

    People only turn to crime to get cannabis, because it is illegal. Look at alcohol prohibition for reference. People were very violet, when it was illegal. In terms of caffeine, it is very addictive. Tell a long time coffee drinker to stop cold turkey and you'll have an irate person on your hands. I believe it is all about moderation, as cannabis and caffeine can both be used well, but can also be abused.

    I've liked the other things he's had to say but I find these points odd. Yes, I see the argument about being jacked on e.g. vended coffee so people work long hours like cogs in a capitalist machine. But surely that's preferable to people getting stoned and doing very little? He's stating that coffee is a supported/socially acceptable drug because it's conducive to a well functioning capitalist society, but as if that's a bad thing. In excess it can be, but really I don't see the supposed problem. Stable capitalist systems are the most effective social systems I know of at least. Certainly the main alternatives seem to have spectacularly failed. And awareness, social responsibility and accountability is improving, helping address some of the issues that have been raised with capitalist society.
    The other missed point is smoking - the key delivery mechanism for marijuana is incredibly bad for ones health, and also harms others around the smoker who may not want to be affected by the health damage caused by the smoke, nor affected by the nicotine or cannabinoids.
    Just as drunkenness - so alcohol that affects others - isn't socially acceptable, thankfully smoking now isn't either - for similar reasons - it unfairly imposes a personal decision to affects ones health/take drugs on others.
    Lastly, he totally ignores the health benefits of drinking tea. Drinking green tea, white tea, oolong and so forth without milk and sugar - as in, traditional asian tea consumption - has masses of well documented health benefits. There's a lot less cafeine, no crash like what coffee can cause, and it can improve concentration and focus, without the drinker being jacked up. I see traditional tea drinking as a wholly positive thing, that really is more like the consumption of food than the taking of a drug. Drugs have negative side effects, and are only helpful in specific applications; like the medicinal use of cannabinoids to treat epilespy or muscle issues. Tea is a subtle, healthy food stuff that can be consumed daily for life with no ill effect. I find his statements totally bizarre.

Capitalism is what drives people to learn more, be more and create more so they can get a piece of the pie. We know that communism doesn't work and creates quite a dull, depressing society where life just becomes pointless, so what do you think is the solution that would have propelled society forward globally?

    he needs to be more specific about what he means by tea. there is black, oolong, green, white and yellow teas, all created from the camellia sinensis plant. white tea has hardly any caffeine and green tea doesn't have much either. black tea has the most.

      No he doesn't. Did you really miss his point? Not all coffee has the same amount of caffeine and other constituents either.

      Same for cannabis. Not to mention the myriad of different effects different people feel from the same drugs.

      saidas108 he does. green, black, oolong, etc. have different nutritional benefits. the differences between caffeine content in teas is very larger, more so than between coffees. the process of creating the different varieties impact their nutritional and caffeine content, despite the fact that they are from the same plant. also, there are many different cultivars, just among chinese green tea alone, not to mention japanese. tea is deeper than you seem to think. so, i think you don't get it. you should be consuming green not black tea for across the board nutritional benefits.

      well actually, all tea is the same. they turn out to be different kind of tea each other during the process from the leaves. but the leaves are the same. like us, humans.

    @MammalAnonymous Well, it is my health to waste (If this is not unproven bogus) anyway, is it not? Why should I care if tea is messing me up? People eat all sorts of stuff that is bad for them, but what does it matter when we are all are going to die sooner or latter? Additionally, you are very quick the show on how superior to any other person you are. How does that help or teach anybody, except to resent you? (Not that I am going to waste my time)

    Spectacularly uninteresting. A short history lesson and then repeating, “Coffee has caffeine. So does tea” but phrasing it in different ways. Then a note on society. Ok....maybe some effects of drinking coffee and tea on health?

    I understand how you may hate a religion but it isn't just the religion that is holding people back from stepping into letting people use pot as a legit way to help themselves and what you just did set a horrible example for everyone else. I would ask that you not use such negativity when representing a cause you care about because then people will start to believe your cause is just like you. Horrible and uncouth with a foul mouth.
    I'm not Christian but I don't like seeing your hate towards it
