  • Welcome back to Talking Dragon Age, the show where I talk about Dragon Age. This episode did not turn out nearly as well as I'd hoped it would. Maybe if I had had more time to work on it over the past few weeks it would have been better, but I think mostly I just need more practice. If you have any tips, please leave them in the comments because I could certainly use some. Anyway, this episode is largely a recap of what went down in Trespasser, and some speculation on a few of the unanswered questions.
    Elven Poem:
    Tel'enara bellana bana'vhenadahl,
    Sethen'a ir san'shiral, mala tel'halani
    Ir sa'vir te'suledin var bana'vallaslin,
    Vora'nadas san banal'him emma abel revas.
    Ir tela'ena glandival, vir amin tel'hanin.
    Ir tela las ir Fen halam, vir am'tela'elvahen.
    Elven Poem Translation:
    We/it lost eternity or the ruined tree of the People,
    Time won't help when the land of dreams is no longer our journey.
    We try to lead despite the eventual failing of our markings.
    To the inevitable and troubling freedom we are committed.
    When we could no longer believe, we lost glory to war.
    When the Wolf failed/won, we lost the People to war.
    Alamarri Poem:
    When waked, we walked where willows wail,
    whose withered windings want wassail.
    We weary-worn with wited wale,
    were wavering with wanion ward.
    When wishing waned, we wighters warred.
    When wolfen wan, we wastrels warred.
    They seem to be saying the same thing. The wolf either failed or won (Possibly both) and then the people were unable to rule themselves.

    Am I the only one who hopes solas does teardown the veil. I mean like the whole concept of the world without the veil would be so cool. Like elves being immortal, everybody being mages, and the world being full of magic(spirits, fade and stuff). I hope there is a option in the next game to help solas or allow him to do what he needs to and instead of fight/redeem.

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment

      Mentor Arash I admit, it would be cool, but if he succeeds then the sudden rush of magic coming in would kill countless people, destroy the cities, and so on. At least, I think that's how it works. I could never, in good conscience, allow that to happen

      The Kingdom I see where you are coming from but i still want solas to succeed lol. Like perhaps there can be a option where we can help the people prepare for the coming events(the destruction of the veil) to minamlize the casualties because as solas stated it will be the ensuing chaos not the actual destrution of the veil that will "destroy the world". My guess to what the chaos maybe is the shock of everybody getting magical abilities and the spirts and demons no longer living separately from mortals but that is just a guess.But what i look most forward to(if the veil does come down) are the answers we will get. Like who are the elven gods, how powerful are they, are they all evil, what is the black city(my bet is arlathan), and also returning the world to the way it is suppose to be as the veil is a construct of solas and thus not a part of the natural world. But I do see where you are coming from i just hope you and other people understand mine and others who think alike me pov.

      That would be good to find a way to destroy the veil without destroying the modern world. All good things from the world before the veil + from the modern world

    I've only romanced Solas but I've seen videos of befriending and him hating the Inquisitor. You hear that Skyhold was only reused over and over and added onto with each user. Meaning it is possible to be the same castle of the elves. Which is quite possible since in Trespasser if Solas hated you and you thank him for Skyhold he flat out tells you to enjoy it while you can cause it's his and he's going to take it back. Then there are theories that his creation of the Veil at Skyhold is what caused the prison to be destroyed. Although, there are some that say that's where he woke up and that's why. As for Felassan, it is said he is the one Solas had try to take the Eluvian from Briala but he failed so Solas killed him. I've heard a lot if people say that's true based on it being a nod to the book. I haven't read them so I don't know personally. But they added the nod of Solas knowing Mihris and calling her on her lie. Non-elf hears "Ma harel, da'len" (You lie, child). So it could be true. Maybe. I've read people thinking Solas put the valislin on elves? He never had slaves and the pictures you see in Trespasser are him removing it to free the enslaved. Which is exactly what he does if you let him in his romance. Honestly, the false gods are the Evanuris. Mythal, Fen'Harel, Falon'Din, Dirthamen, Andruil, etc. I'm not sure if they are the Old Gods the Tevinter believe in but they are the false gods the Dalish had blood written their faces for. Which believing years and years of stories passed down to them with things missing or added in isn't exactly their fault. You can't really blame them for being hostile when Solas tried to tell them all they've ever known and heard from their elders is wrong. As for all the Elven Gods being bad... well only Solas never had slaves. Mythal did but it is theorized that she only pretended so that she could help Fen'Harel free them. It is also theorized that's what got her killed and her power fought over. And he tells you at the Temple of Mythal just how bad Falon'Din and Andruil truly were. If you say they got what they deserved he agrees but states that the first elves don't die so easily. Then says it again in Trespasser. As for a Well drank Inquisitor, it is quite possible you belong to Solas now. Probably not, because Mythal sealed a part of herself into the Eluvian before Solas took her power so she will be returning, but there is a chance you're his now. Though he probably would never act on it cause slavery is NOT his thing. Honestly, Solas is not a bad guy. Cole always knew who he really was just like he always knew about Blackwall. He even states he's not that kind of wolf. Solas ways may be mistakes but his reasoning is good. Imagine waking up in a whole new world. The people you know are gone and the world of beauty you once roamed is destroyed with your race still enslaved and looked down on. Where the Fade feels so distant and is quite feared among many who have never truly seen it. History says it's only happened twice but Solas states that's only human history. The world is now an apocalyptic chaos compared to his. And the elves are nothing compared to "his people". He feels alone in the modern day. And he truly is alone amongst the weakened elves that are far beyond his own. He fears dying alone. And in the modern time that's what would happen if he did. Which is another reason he wants to restore the elves. He tells you he would cherish being proven wrong if your his friend and is truly sad if your his lover. He wanted to bring a final peace to the world because he isn't a monster. It could have all been a trick, but he didn't have to tell you what he's going to do. Or let you know about his inside spies that could keep him knowing your moves. Whether you want to help or stop him, he made you aware of things and it seems like he wants to do things fairly. The next move was your's. Weak but Safe against him or Strong but Corrupted. Honestly, Trespasser was to set up a next game, show how corrupted the Inquisition became, answer player questions, and end the Inquisitor's story. Weekes and Gaider have a video uploaded stating so. Sorry this was so long. Oh. The elves he freed were taken through the Crossroads to a Sanctuary. Kind of like an Underground Railroad. The traveling you do there shows as much. I never had to fight the purple spirit Guardians because I always drink the Well. But they welcome and help you when you state Fen'Harel Enansal. His blessing. So the freed weren't there. But many theories says he locked them in an Eluvian. Even ones that say the Black City in the Fade holds them. As for how it was only them and not every enslaved elf too. Well... there are theories that he put them under an eternal sleep before he locked them away. I don't know, but that would make it easier to make sure it's just them that is and not everyone else, too. Although, him leaving the elves leaderless and going to sleep after they clearly had and seemed to need leaders or some guidance was a bad idea.

    Hi, I think that you have an good point about not all of the evanuris not being evil. They probably weren't but Solas probably views them as being guilty due to their lack of action. Within party banter with Dorian about Arlanthan, Solas states that Dorian doesn't feel guilty about slavery because he doesn't do anything about it. I believe that Solas locked away all of the evanuris because some were corrupt and the other were cowards. This is all just my opinion though. (Also love your videos keep them coming please!!!)

    Oh god I hope you're right about the Felassan thing, he's one of my faves because I think he had a pretty fun personality and to think that might be tranquil now? Seems wonderfully tragic, and like something Weekes would do. I hope it's the writing being clever and not just an overlook (them forgetting about how they set up their own world, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case). He'd make a good companion too if not just for the inside information that we're probably really gonna need to fight back.
    Also just so I can figure out who he is other than an agent, because the way they describe his vallaslin it sounds like more than just your average tattooed elf.

    A friend of mine pointed out there was a codex in Trespasser that suggests Ghilan'nain (the Halla mother) was conducting experiments on people. We know the Dalish have alot of things wrong. Hell we always knew that, there's no conceivable way they could accurately know their own history. So despite June being "god of crafts" and Sylaise being "god of the hearth" it could very well be these two had extremely different roles than those titles would suggest.
    But at the same time we only have Solas' side of the story. It could be he went on a mad quest of revenge against all of them for the actions of a few of them. We just don't know.
    Also Felassan being alive and tranquil and then cured would be an amazing retcon haha. Felassan for DA4 companion! And glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Solas is Anders x 100.

      Do you know which codex he's talking about? That sounds really interesting!
      & yeah, I feel like Solas's side of the story is only part of it. And while the Dalish do get a lot of things wrong, it always seems like they're half-right. Argh, I want to know more!!! XD

      +The Kingdom 'Notes on Methods of Enchantment'. These are the codex entries received when collecting the items that make up The Taken Shape. Two lines in particular suggest that the writer was experimenting with people; 'Using up the last of the stock was well worth it, as I explained to it as a courtesy before final work began. Adjustments to the underlay were a great success, and will allow the recipe to be made with material taken from lesser animals...'
      Rather than being signed with a signature, the notes are stamped with a stylised halla head symbol, which would suggest that they were written by Ghilan'nain.

    I definitely agree with the Evanuris not being all bad. I think it's possible that Sylaise and June could have been persuaded into the plot or been present and Solas, whose shown that he's quick to vengeance in All New, Faded For Her, could have just assumed they were willing and as bad as the rest.

  • @set9034
    @set9034 7 років тому +2

    Solas most likely used those elven artifacts we turn on throughout Ferelden and Orlais to help in the process of creating the veil as they did strengthen it(That makes me wonder if they could do the reverse). Once they were all primed and set he used the mark at Skyhold to have the veil form in full. As for who was sealed away and who wasn't, it is possible the Evanuras were in a specific part of the fade to do whatever they planned to destroy the world. However, if that is not the case we have to then consider how deeply entwined the fade was with the waking world, Solas states that we should imagine like a state of nature being that of the wind. That analogy is somewhat confusing because there are lot of aspects of the wind you can draw from that, does it come and go? Does certain aspects of it change by thought just as if you were dreaming in the fade?

  • @periwinkle1136

    I know this is an old vid and maybe you already made this point but regarding what you said that Solas had to do more than just create the Veil, I believe you are correct. Creating the Veil must have done the same thing to the Evanuaris as killing Corypheus' dragon done to Corypheus; disrupting them to the point where they can't just jump bodies. This would give Solas the chance to seal them completely so that they can't just brute force their way out of the fade and into Thedas and tear down the Veil. With how Mythal/Flemmeth work, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to assume that the Evanuaris aren't bound to having one body and may be possessing multiple bodies at once or can switch around whenever they please and each body could contain a fragment of their power. So Solas would have to also seal the bodies that the Evanuaris had which would greatly reduce the power the Evanuaris had.
    I personally believe that the old gods sealed in the deep roads are connected to the Evanuaris and were used to seal away the great evil hidden deep inside the Earth(?) long before the creation of the Veil, whether it was because of the blight, specifically darkspawn, or something far worse. This would have been a glaring weak point in Solas's plan because it seems that the old gods weren't sealed in such a way to prevent them from reconnecting to the Evanuaris. Their reconnection would allow the Evanuaris to have enough power to take back Thedas and go back to their former glory.

    While I like the idea of Felassan being alive, I don't think that's the case. I thought of this possibility as well but Solas is also a dreamer and dreamers can kill someone in their dreams. it is possible, though unlikely, that Solas decided to only make Felassan Tranquil instead.

    Honestly, I totally understand what Solas wants to do and why and I can't even find a logical or rational reason to dissagree with him.
    I think his only fault is his impatience. He woke up and saw the world in ruins, everybody is now mortal so they've all got a death sentence anyway, everyone is cut off from the fade which is wholly unnatural and spirits are corrupted into demons daily. The veil itself is entirely unnatural and the cause of pretty much all the chaos in the world. And Solas did it. He destroyed the world, everything we've seen in the dragon age games: it's all broken. We are seeing a world that's torn apart. Solas wants to fix it.
    Yes, that will cause immediate destruction and chaos but only in the short term. I completely see why Solas cannot care about the short term. 100 years is nothing to an immortal: in 100 years every being in Thedas will be dead anyway (because of him). To save the world, to bring it back to it's natural state and undo the destruction he caused, sacrificing many of those people now in order to bring lasting restoration to the world forever after would seem like no price at all.
    It is, after all, nothing compared to what he already did in creating the veil in the first place, which not only destroyed the world at the time but kept it trapped in this state forever or until he undoes it.
    So, I can't actually dissagree with Solas. However, he is not pressed for time like he was when he created the veil: there is no imminent threat that means he must act right now or all will be lost. Everybody has adapted to the veil, he can take as long as he likes to find a way to fix it AND mitigate the ensuing damage. I feel like the only reason he's all like 'I have to do this asap' is because it's so fresh for him, he woke up, saw what he'd done and was consumed by guilt and panic. He's rushing to fix his mistake because to him it feels like he only just destroyed the world, but it's been destroyed for centuries upon centuries; fixing it right now won't be any different to fixing it later but for Solas he can't see past his emotions at the moment.

    • @nocturna79

      Fix the world for whom? The elves of old? Who will stay alive after what he wants to do? I still think he might change his mind ....

    • @Sheechiibii
      @Sheechiibii 6 років тому +2

      Zélia Dominoni Fix the world as in what we see is a broken world, a world split in two by the veil, an unnatural construction keeping the world from being whole. So to take away the unnatural veil would be to fix the broken world.
      The veil destroyed the world but it coming into existence didn't cause any extinction, life went on and it will go on if the veil is gone too. In 100 years people will still be in Thedas regardless if there's a veil or not: Those are the people Solas is thinking about. Long term vs short term.
      His problem is his impatience. He sees the world he destroyed and is desperate to fix it asap cause he's grief stricken and guilty as hell. When he created the veil he did so with hardly any time to work with since the end of the world was on it's way if he didn't intervene. Now, he has literally all the time in the world to look into finding safer/better ways of taking down the veil. But Solas can't see past the horror of what he's done to think things through. To him it feels as though he just massacred a huge number of people and broke the world, what does it matter if more die now fixing it? They all have death sentences anyway due to the veil - due to him.
      So, I agree with his goal to fix his mistake, but I disagree with his methods which imo are clearly caused by him being unable to see the situation in any objective way.

      Now, I'm saying this a year after your comment but those were my exact thoughts after I finished the dlc. Everyone is crying "I will redeem him" but I see not one reason to disagree with his goal. And yes, the fault lies with his impatience. He could have waited until he was stronger to unlock the orb. Instead, he gave it to Corypheus barely a year after his awakening. And post trespasser, he's probably still set on going the immediate-but-destructive way.
      When picking the option to let you help him as an elf, my first thought when I chose it wasn't because I wanted to see the old elven glory or because I didn't want him to be alone. It was because his objective made so much sense to me.
      I really hope the next game lets you find middle ground instead of killing/convincing him to give up.

    I think that whether Solas can be saved and what his end goals are depends on whether you befriended him or treated him like shit. If you are a dick to him and don't convince him that the world is worth saving then he will likely go thru with his original plan and can't be saved. However, if you convince him, I believe that his goal changed and he is now trying to unite everyone against him like they did agaist Corypheus. I could be wrong but wouldn't that be an interesting twist.

    You probably already figured out or at least suspect how Solas sealed the evanuris away. I think he duped them to go into Uthenera for some reason, maybe he used the blight as an excuse and then sealed them in the Fade. It would have been a lot easier to trap them this way.

    Evanuris were blighted thats why Solas seal them away. i love Felassan too maybe in DA 4 we will get a quest chain with Leliana spy network to find a certain tranquil and restore him, Cassandra is planing to restore all who were made tranquil maybe thats how we going to meet felassan. (this idea just come to me but what if there is quest chain that can change Felassan class like a starting rogue and by player choise restore magic abilities while he recover from the tranquility. much like how DAI can make Cole more human or more spirit like).

    Could it be possible the Elven Gods were sealed in the former Golden City? With the Taint acting as a 'spiritual dye pack'? It's certainly a good deterrent to those powerful enough to reach their prison. I wouldn't go there knowing if become a mindless Darkspawn, even spirits fear the Taint there.

    Didnt the Veil cause the death of his entire world? Seems fairly logical that something he made created more problems that it solves.
    With the Veil you get blight, deaths, spirits became monsters, magic became even more unstable. Etc..

    you know sky hold bugs me fearcely there's a lot of lore in what's not said about it. I don't know how else to say it but it feals like there's a lot more to what's not said then what is. for example the prison of sky hold something emencely powerful was locked up there and the amount of power it used distoryed the foundation of sky hold the lab that's by the vualt it's almost like it's tevinter in design but something's not quite right the more I explore it the more I feel that I'm missing something.

    Towards the end you commented that Morrigan says that the Veil could be torn down from the Crossroads. I have been researching Eluvian, so I just watched the Crossroads sequence. She doesn't say the Veil can be torn down, she says that Corypheus could break through to the Fade because the Veil is thin there. It would probably be more like creating a rift there.

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment
      @TheKingdomEntertainment  7 років тому

      MonkeyHead1512 She said "The barrier between worlds could be torn down from here" didn't she?

    • @MasterTim1127
      @MasterTim1127 7 років тому

      The Kingdom She says, "someone with enough power could tear down the ancient barriers." So yes she does say that. But the context before that is talking about the Crossroads and how it is a world between worlds. If you tear down the barriers there it doesn't remove the Veil. In the scene they say it is like a pocket in the Fade though it is not the Fade.

      The Kingdom I do think that the Crossroads will be important though. The Eluvians have been pretty significant to the game thus far, and still might have a part to play in the end.

    I think the Evanuris are the Old Gods. Ya know, the ones who become the Archdemon. It would make sense. It is said somewhere that they could take on the form of dragons.

      @christiancristof491 7 років тому

      What would be the point then? If Fen'Harel didn't actually stopped them and they come into the "real" world as archdemons why would he talk about it like he actually banished them forever?

    Coming back to this and just wanna say it's possible that all the elven gods sucked and were slavers and what Solas said was true ".. She was the best of them.." that probably means she was the best by comparison.

      Wraithlord1476 I was wondering that, too. I don't think so, though. Because I'm pretty sure he just syphoned her power, not her soul. And the Well was tied to her soul

    I must say, I'm a bit lost regarding Solas actions. Let's say he tears down the veil... wouldn't the world look similar to that in "In Hushed Whipsers" mission?

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment
      @TheKingdomEntertainment  7 років тому +3

      TeaBarful I thought of that too, but...I think in the alternate future, the Breach had expanded everywhere, but didn't completely dispell the Veil. If the Veil were properly dispelled, then the Fade would occupy the same space as Thedas, thus allowing for proper use for its properties.
      Not sure how much sense that makes, but it's all I can think of XD

    • @TeaBarful
      @TeaBarful 7 років тому +1

      Oh, ok! Good point :D
      But I also think the problem is with Solas limited perspective. He is so into restoring his world, that he forgets, that both Thedas and the Fade changed through out the years. And by tearing down the veil, he would not only destroy human world, but also create chaos among all beings - spirits and the living.
      Or maybe I'm thinking too much :D

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment
      @TheKingdomEntertainment  7 років тому +1

      TeaBarful I absolutely agree with you! I think I mentioned that in one of my other Solas videos. That he doesn't realize the consequences for his own people

    i belive it has something to do with the elven tatoos, there its an image of solas giving elfs such tatoo, i was wondering why, also why they give so much importance about daelish having such tatoos my guess is that the tatoos worked as a ward that protected them against solas spell, and because solas himself casted the spell he really didnt need the tatoos to begin with, so it only affected the evaniris sorry if i butchered the name, and thats my theory i have litle to nothing to support but to me makes sense..

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment
      @TheKingdomEntertainment  7 років тому

      adriel castellanos castillo Actually, Solas was removing the tattoos. They used to be slave markings for the other gods

    • @elrudo16288
      @elrudo16288 7 років тому +1

      ok thanks, dude one question why daelish hate Solas i mean yeah he ruined their civilisation and make using magic nearly imposible, but the daelish are infact using such tatoo meaning they probably the descendants of elven slaves why hate the dude that free them from slavery

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment
      @TheKingdomEntertainment  7 років тому +1

      adriel castellanos castillo Because they don't know what happened. After their society fell, they were in Slavery for about a thousand years to Tevinter. Tevinter destroyed most of their historical records, as did the Blights. All they have is stories misheard and misrepeated thousands of times over since then. They don't know what really happened. They think Fen'Harel imprisoned their gods out of spite, just like they think the tattoos are marks of service to the gods, not marks of slavery

    I gotta be honest, I don't like Solas. He always comes off as rude and kinda snobbish to me. I try to befriend him and see things from his view, but I can't. I mean why does he have to tare down the veil? Why not help the world we have now? You can't bring back old glory, that's what tavinter trying to do and are failing at. At the end of the day, I just pity him.

      Xelitaz1 I originally planned to put the line in the video right after I said that, but I couldn't get it that soon after Trespasser came out. It's at Halamshiral. He says "His friend had to die because he thought they were people. A slow arrow breaks in the sad wolf's jaws."

    Man I didnt understand in Trespasser when it said that solas removed the face markings of his people to free them from slavery. Why are face elven face tattoos related to slavery even tho the free dalish wear 'em proudly??

      P.O. Square Neck Elven slavers used to mark their slaves to honer their gods but later the Dalish somehow forgot the slave marking part and it became their tradition.
