  • Welcome back to Talking Dragon Age, the show where I talk about Dragon Age. Today, we speculate the future of the Grey Wardens. It appears as though the legendary order is on the verge of Civil War: a Schism. There seem to be many contributing factors to this, but the most prominant is the Architect. It also seems likely that Solas may attempt the add to the conflict in some capacity so that the Wardens destroy themselves, as oppose to him needing to do it himself. He is, after all, The Trickster.
    This episode proved to be a big challenge for me to finish, and I wish I could have done more with the visuals. Still, I'm happy with how it turned out. Actually, this might be one of my favorite theories yet. It's always fun to postulate these things.
    If you have any suggestions on ways to improve the show or theories I could cover, please leave comments or message me directly.

    I wish I could play my Warden-Commanders exploring the West even in a DLC like Awakening. Why is the West never touched by the Blight? There has to be a reason why. And not just that the BioWare developers are too lazy to explore the entire world of Thedas.

    For me, war between the Grey Wardens is more interesting than the whole Templar vs. Mages plot we have already seen in the past two games.

    I let the Architect live too. But he is indeed a dangerous entity and we'll see what happens with the result of him still being out there. The reason why I believe he is dangerous is because of his first plan which was stopped by King Maric, Duncan, and Fiona. He had intended to release the taint upon all the world which would kill everyone except those that survived and master the taint. Like how the Grey Wardens master the taint. He would have killed millions all on the idea that with humans mastering the taint that they would have a common bond with the Darkspawn. It was insane. The Architect is not evil but he lacks empathy. So he'll do what ever it takes to achieve his goals.

    Im writing a Dan fiction about the schism
    Neo-Wardens vs the traditionalist.
    Neo-Wardens want to take over the Anderfels throne and play a more direct role in Thedas politics.
    Traditionalist want to maintain the status quo.

    Remember how Cassandra admits that the reason for the rebellion was that it was discovered the Rite of Tranquility could be reversed? Maybe the schism is because of a discovery that the Joining could be reversed. It would explain the Hero showing back up (Leliana romance/becoming Divine).

    Missed opportunity not letting me kill blackwall by sending him to do the joining.
    It could be discovered outside of the wardens that the joining kills people and start some kind of conflict as a result of wardens not being able to recruit.
    but also, it denies me an opportunity to be evil under the guise of "doing the right thing". Which is my favorite guise. Eh, Solas?

    Man, this web series is so good! I really enjoy the glee with which you explain your theories. Thanks for this! It helps pass the waiting for the next game a lot. I was wondering about the whole Wardens vs. Solas reckoning that is coming. How on Earth are they going to tie up all of the story lines together with the various choices made over the past 3 games leading to this one? That's going to be a Herculean effort even with Dragon Age Keep to sort it all out.

    I think that The Warden finding a cure to the Calling would cause a schism in the Grey Wardens. It would be absolutely huge and fundamentally change the order. I could see some being wary of it and others wanting to use it and being barred by the First Warden, thus causing the schism

    9:40 Yea, Solas when you have your haven fade scene with him, implies that he was planning on leaving west to avoid the breach and demons while he figures something out (implying it would give him more time)
    I know this sounds weird but I feel like it has something to do with the Titans.
    I'm really hoping since Bioware hinted that DA4 will pull away from the core story, it moves out of Thedas. An article about it said "His plotline is said to be separate from the core story, but more substantial than background lore drops." and "suggesting that there will likely be a strange, Lovecraftian feel to his section, or at least a focus on death or loss. Perhaps it will be set in the Fade, Dragon Age’s demonic dimension?"
    even if it was in the fade, or set before the fall of Arlathan.
    something about dragon age's lore feels like Thedas is missing some crucial information they cannot gather from where they are or when they are. Like we need to move away from what we know to see the bigger picture.
    Dragonage is missing some serious glue somewhere.

    Greetings from Bulgaria! Your videos are great and I'm really glad that they started popping up in my feed.
    I think you got something with this theory, but you lack some info. Or at least - you haven't used it. What about the events from "Last Flight" and the kind of a secret that the wardens in Weisshaupt are now keeping? Books are sort of canon. I mean we met Issmail and we had the whole debacle between Celine, Brialla and Gaspard that started in the "Masked Empire" for example. Also, we had Cole with this memories from "Assunder" intact. Not to mention Fiona from "The Calling". So, book events are kinda of canon if not - really canon. Now to my point, I'll use spoiler tag so I don't ruing the great book that is "Last Flight"(highly recomend, even just as a book and not as a part from the DA lore).
    #SPOILER
    In the Last Flight a young warden recruit finds a book, that turns out to be a diary from the time of the 4th Blight. Long story short, it turns out that the griffons were actually the ultimate price the wardens had to pay to stop the Blight. The wardens were at fault for killing of the griffons, because of the blood magic ritual they've been using to save them from blighted wounds. This obviously was a bad idea that turned the griffons insane, but also - made them really strong. Not only the one that had blood magic(the warden ritual of innitiation to be more specific), but also the newbourn. The wardens poisoned the very species/dna of the griffons with blood magic. It was a side effect, it was the real price of blood magic.
    So, at the end of the book, that young warden recruit uses the hints from the diary to find a clutch of magically protected griffon eggs in a cave near Weisshaupt fortress. The last griffon eggs. And, they hatched infront of her eyes. And the baby griffons didn't have the taint or the madness.
    And now to Inquisition. I really thought well get some hints for what's happening in Weisshaupt in the game. And in a way - we do have. This Schism that you're talking about is basically real, but the reason behind it are the events in Inquisition. Knowing the truth about the 4th Blight, the wardens in Weisshaupt are not ok with what the southern wardens did in Adamant and the whole demon-army-thing. They want to protect the griffons and breed them again. So, in my opinion, they're severing the ties with all the wardens that are against their new found principles.
    I think you're also on a right track with the magisters' theory, but to some extend. Griffons are going to be important and the events and the dabate from "Last Flight" will be addressed in the next game.
    Again, great theory. Keep up the good work! And please excuse my bad english, it's not my native language :)

      Virginia Kirova Really glad you brought up. I think I'll mention the griffons when I make a video about the next game.

    • @Optimare33
      @Optimare33 7 років тому

      Great video as always! :) I really hope what you addressed in the video comes true in the next DA game. The entire schism thing is already quite apparent in Inquisition, since the Orlesian Wardens proceeded with their plan behind all other Warden's backs (in The Last Flight, the Weisshaupt Wardens have no idea what's happening in Orlais, all they know is that they are losing contacts there). Clearly the these defenders only unity is in the end, not the means.
      What I'd like to add is that in The World of Thedas, it's written that lately the First Warden is becoming more and more ambitious and politically oriented and many Wardens don't like it. This, in my opinion, is an important thing to consider.

    Dude your theories gets my curiosity pumping like mad!!!! DaO is my favorite game of all times and i cant wait to see how this story unfolds in the next Dragon Age installment! How it all ends in DA:I spurs out more questions than answers (specially the scene involving Solas and Flemeth at the end).

    I think nathaniel didn't spoke of the disciples when he referred to the strange allies but to the dwarves who serve the titans the ones we see in Descent dlc ,probably the Wardens already knew about them and they could have help to retake the deep roads from the darkspawn ,and i 'm also sure their the reason why kal shirok survived and thats why their so secret ,in his trip the warden commander could have encountered them ,solas could factor in this but i don't know

    I haven't finished the video yet, but your getting close to a theory I have that wraps up the Grey Wardens, The Architect and his talking dark spawn, and the dwarves of Kal-Sharok. I'm going to finish the video now, and if your theory isn't as close to mine as I think it's going to be I would love to talk to you about my theory!

    • @hunterfehnel2017
      @hunterfehnel2017 7 років тому +3

      Okay, my (Loose) theory is going to be hard to write out, but I'm going to try so please be gentle! I'm going to make a bold claim and say that something like a cure to the blight could be discovered within Kal-Sharok. I came to this conclusion after reading codexs involving dwarves from Kal-Sharok, almost always they are described as looking off, and one person even claims they have the same feel about them as the grey wardens do. So essentially I'm saying this whole line of dwarves seem to be blighted, and for whatever reason their able to live for a whole lifetime(although that's not entirely confirmed). Okay with that out of the way, The Architect is most certainly alive regardless of your decision to kill him or not. I hope I'm not mistaken, being as it's been a year or two since I've played awaking, but one of his main goals is to cure the darkspawn or their taint(or something similar to that). Perhaps The Architect, since he essentially live in the deep roads, comes to the same conclusion about the Karl-Sharok dwarves. This is where my theory get a little muddy. I imagine the dwarves of Karl-Sharok wouldn't take to kindly to talking darkspawn, so I assume diplomacy between the two factions wouldn't be an option. So I predict a war raging in Kal-Sharok eventually and the wardens get involved once they sense the large activity of darkspawn. I still haven't figured out if there's a warden base close to Kal-Sharok, but for now let's assume they still get there. So at this point I imagine the Wardens learning of a POSSIBLE(can't stress that enough) cure to the calling, and this will be what divides the Wardens, the factions being those who want the cure and be free, and those who believe they should stick to their vows. And this is where I think a conflict will arise in the next installment of the dragon age series, be that game or some other form of media. I understand this wasn't the best theory and all, but what do you think! I'm so inspired by your theory videos that I've often considered doing some of my own, but alas I'm just not ready to put stuff out like that yet.

    Killing or sparing the Architect was one of the most difficult choices in the series for me. I eventually killed him because I felt it was a safer bet. I thought at the time that repelling two more blights would be easier than intelligent Darkspawn who we have no guarantee would really want peace, even if that’s what the Architect wants. Also, where will they live? Do they want their own land? How will that work when they can infect humans? Also are we supposed to just allow them to continue making Broodmothers? It’s just not realistic in my opinion, there’s too many complications. I think both sides will end in war, but it’s a really interesting conflict.

  • @AndE667
    @AndE667 3 роки тому +1

    Given that Wardens seem to work as a similar failsafe to Corypheus as darkspawn to archdemons, I doubt that choosing to kill Architect was the end of him. Also, someone else also put it out below, but I also suspect the Wardens might have a more sinister purpose for their existence. Also, where exactly did the joining ritual come from? Demons, maybe? Or maybe from a magister?

  • @PirateNinjaMegaRobot
    @PirateNinjaMegaRobot 7 років тому +2

    So, I have a wild hare and you seem to be the most prevalent Chanel with new dragon age content right now so here's the deal, I liked what you brought up with the wardens. Although I doubt it will be a large plot point in the next game (book maybe?) anyway. This is about the "golden city" I think it was originally the capital of the elven empire, Before the veil. It turning black would be from the corruption of the void from that one elven god (June? Unsure, been a minute) by the time the magisters get there, the blight is rampant, and since logic and reason is a little bit "lax" in the fade, everything could be a transmission vector. So we have 7 blighted magisters. Unless a few ended up dead like corypheus because wardens know about them. I.e. Your theory. Additionally, and unrelated I doubt the "first warden" is anything more than a title. His point about where his orders came from would be more about say, a NYC cop getting orders from the president. Not necessarily in person, just from way up there. Unless it's one of the first warden is the literal first warden. In which case, he can likely shed a lot of light on what has been going on. Having been through it all. Knowing where the wardens came from. Maybe even qunari origins. (First attempt at grey wardens? Dragons are resistant to the blight. resistant, not immune). P.S. any input from anyone would be appreciated. Dragon age is by far my favorite world, and any lore discussion really gets my mind running wild. Also, Mr. kingdom, if you need any ideas for more videos I'd love to help. I want to have more lore/theory out there but don't really have the voice for it this is why I love your channel.

      stephen roy I talk about the Black City being Arlathan in my Fate of Elvhenan video. The god with ties to the Blight is Andruil, not June. What you said about it being covered in a book is interesting, but the games seem to be the primary medium for the world, and the Wardens are too big a plot point to leave uncovered in them. Plus, it feels likely that they will relate to Solas and his plans.
      That said...what you said about the qunari is actually really interesting. It's certainly a possibility. They'll get their own episode in a while. Not exactly sure when, yet

    Always kill The Architect. He's not a nice dude and he ties you up and tortures you. That's a capital offence. But, yeah, he's probably still alive no matter what you chose.
    Also, I do really like the dual-protagonist idea (and I do NOT remember who proposed it - it could have been Watchman, FK, you, or someone else;I have been binging SO much lore of late) where we could get to play as the Inquisitor, the Warden, maybe even a cameo by Hawke if they didn't die... in a few different locations, in addition to our 'main' protagonist. It would give a totally new meaning to 'side-quest' and make them special.

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment
      @TheKingdomEntertainment  7 років тому +2

      Missrena1000 I suggest heading to the wikia page for a full answer. the short answer is that the Blight is a plague that infects and destroys everything it touches. The darkspawn spread it, and the Grey Wardens take it into themselves in order to sense it.
      The Calling is something that the darkspawn hear that draws then to the Old Gods; powerful, ancient dragons buried deep underground. After decades of being infected with the Blight, the Grey Wardens start to hear it too.
      Hope that helps :)

    Any idea why they decided not to include the Architect in here lies the abys (I fucking live the Architect xD ). I also believe that he does infact remember who he is (like Corypheus) but does not wish to share that information. It is also known that he is really devious and intelligent so that somewhat supports my theory. Please note that he is highly dangerous as his "experiments" infact caused the same blight we fight in dragon age origins (maybe also the first blight idk I forgot don't qoute me on that one, and as you yourself mentioned in the video)
    Secondly when you mentioned that the grey wardens and the Architect could find the old Gods (which seems possible) any theories as to why the grey wardens would be interested in doing such? Maybe the Architect convinces them that they could "purify" the old Gods or something.
    Getting super exciting for dragon age 4 immagining the Architect fighting with other magisters along with the confict with Solas and the old Gods

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment
      @TheKingdomEntertainment  7 років тому +1

      MaltiPur As for why they didn't include him, I really don't know. If I were to guess, I'd say it's because they plan to use him later for something else.
      Second, for why they would seek the Old Gods, they may attempt to slay them before they wake, thus (theoretically) preventing a Blight. That's what the Wardens at Adamant wanted to do since they thought they were dying.

    Just one thing. Peace with the Architect is not the better option. Because peace with Dark spawn still means raping women to continue the race. He also told the warden that his goal is to turn everyone in a dark spawn hybrid using warden blood (have not played in a while, but I remember something like that). So, give me a war with the Architect any day of the week, rather than the atrocities he will commit, when no one is watching.

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment
      @TheKingdomEntertainment  7 років тому +2

      Frank Jaeger The Architect's original plan was to taint all of Thedas, yes. But that was in one of the books. In Awakening, the plan changed to simply freeing the darkspawn.
      Still, you male a some good points. I always thought that even if he kept his word, the taint is too dangerous. The reason I second-guessed myself is because of the coming war.
      I like this topic a lot XD They should make more choices like this where there will be benefits and consequences, and you just have to hope it works out

    What about the harvesters? Though it wasn't in the keep it was present in dragon age as add on content, a warden goes to find the Golems Of Amgarrak, their was even red lyrium used to create a different dimension if I remember right...
    Plus the first enchanter in dragon age 2 knew about it and turned into a harvester so it was obviously discovered and it's information shared for whatever purpose
    And if you go in dragon age keep allegedly in world lore Amgarrak gets overrun by harvesters...and that place existed ''before time'' to what that means is another mystery owo'' plus as the warden we were exposed to the red lyruim ourselves as going to dust town you are given the option to smuggle lyrium which is red in colour to that mage....Hopefully it's coincidence but the mage looks a lot like mouse who you meet during the harrowing , to if that means something or not I guess is anyone's guess
    To why Solas is angry to the old gods being killed I think it has to do with how Corypheus made himself immortal...It's the same how ''elven gods'' extended their lives, placing part of their soul inside a dragon and he wants to free them if their dragon is dead I suppose that means the corresponding elven god would be dead?
    It makes me wonder if they were trying to raise the inquisitor to be a god or a vassal to house one because if an old god baby is born during the last fight if you drank from the well the dragon survives and if not it gets killed...
    Plus you forget a couple of things, you mentioned the ''first warden'' is that possible to be literal? the one who first taken on the taint is still leading the wardens? Larius proved as much that the wardens continue on living even after the calling but I suppose are more vulnerable to the song and being controlled? And even if you letting Architect live makes a difference in the ''intelligent'' darkspawn they poison people helping them out with them falling sick to the blight, I think the architect knows perfectly well what happened and his plan is to make everyone immortal using the blight and the reason while he steals the wardens blood is to help him develop that right level of taint? so blighted creatures can still appear mortal...
    Anywaaay he did trigger the 5th Blight Early to what he said was an ''accident'' but to be honest I think he generally says what is conviniant, that broodmother revealed as much and he was practically the father to those darkspawn helping her make them until his tests went just right on the offspring to create the intelligent ones then using it on her to make it part of her dna and producing more.....Theirs always something he is not saying so theirs why he can't be trusted...
    well that's how I see it, I suppose my opinion doesn't has any merit x'D

      Donny Kitsune I briefly show the Harvester in my Titans video. I think it is very important, but not to the Wardens or the Blight. They're essential golems made of flesh, if I remember correctly. & I don't think it was red lyrium that was down there. There were "lyrium wells", though. The experiments there are definitely important and the Harvesters may be a real threat one day, but I don't think that they'll relate to the Wardens

      Donny Kitsune That "Existed before time" part stands out to me, though. I may look into that some more. For the rest, I'm not really sure what to make of it. There's a lot we don't know DX
      But never think your opinion doesn't matter! It mist certainly does!

      The Wardens investigated it that is why it is important towards it because what they do with that information allegedly the same time that The Architect awakens the broodmother, that's when the harvesters overrun Amgarrak so is it possible the reason why you a survivor Grey Warden [if you did survive] were sent to deal with the architect as a distraction? I say that since he/she still doesn't know anything despite being the warden commander of ferelden but the one at adamant seems more informed...and well he was searched for, I am personally curious
      I am just saying during the DLC their was only one and you defeat it so does that mean that the wardens been using it?
      I agree with you on the red lyrium thing though because it's been a while since I played it and I think I remembering that the spirit was red?
      It will be probably near impossible to look into most likely and honestly it's best to shoot in the dark and hope something hits maybe? It leaves a lot to the imagination but at this moment I suppose that's all we have for the moment
      Urm thanks? I just think that way because I don't have much evidence to at least act out the stepping stones but I wasen't aware you covered the harvestors in another video but as I said its on the map so the amgarrak download is canon to how it plays out it's just not ''our warden'' regardless

    One thing to consider is that Bioware writes future stories as if some that could be killed, was killed. So I don't think Nathaniel Howe will play an important part in the story since you can have him executed. Also, the Architect will probably not return either unless like you said that give him the same absolute as Corrypheus

      Kyle7885 About Nathaniel: I thought of that, too. But then, look at Legion from Mass Effect. You could have given him to Cerberus in Mass Effect 2, and that affected the events in 3. But it wasn't absolute one way or the other

    Titans, Grey wardens, old magisters, old gods, elfen gods, mages and temlars, qunari. The story of Dragon age world can continue to 10 more games at least.

      The Kingdom Will do. Let me just have some free time and disclose this matter for you. But I have a feeling you may end up making a new video about it.

    Oh piss... I killed the architect, which I still would do, but yeah... he'd probably be able to take another body

    If there is a cure, what will it mean for the darkspawn? Will this cure be like committing genocide on them? Or will some of them be able to be saved and revert back to their original race?

    • @TheKingdomEntertainment

      Patricia Murray Ghouls' minds would be too far deteriorated. Common darkspawn...it's hard to say. I don't think they can revert back to anything, since they are children of the Blight. The Architect's reverse Joining cured them of the Calling, but they still carry the taint. If a cure is found for the taint...it may kill darkspawn, or maybe it would have no effect on them. It's hard to say.

      The Kingdom both are possible but there is that Whispers in Red Lyrim note so it just comes down to who is the bigger threat the old gods or the Titans.
