  • Hello! Today we doing some warm-ups! Many of you have told me that you don't know what to do for daily practice, so I decided to make a practice video you can revisit daily. The lesson starts at 0:34 and the daily practice begins at 5:56. In this warm-up video we are doing the following:
    12 Bar blues chord progression
    A7 A7 A7 A7
    D7 D7 A7 A7
    E7 D7 A7 E7
We are using this chord progression to practice two fingerpicking patterns
    4-3-2-1
    4-3-21-3
We will also be doing the island strum, add a chuck, and practice muting
All in all, the purpose of this warm-up is to get you picking, strumming, and to improve your playing. The more you do this, the more you will grow in your practice.
    UKULELES USED:

More of these!!! This is just what I'm needing, as a NOVICE, past beginner, but not intermediate at all. 1. A warm-up routine where I can see progress over time; 2. practice with strums, chucks, 2 finger-picking, and some novice chords. Really, there is a big missing space for NOVICE ukulele tutorials on youtube... Thank you...

Hey there, I just bought a ukulele and am taking the 30 day challenge. I have been using a plectrum and like the sound better. Any reason I should use my fingers instead of a plectrum? :) thank you so much for this! :D

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  4 роки тому +2

Ritu Roy Chowdhury hi Ritu!!! The pick/plectrum might cause damage to the top of your ukulele over time. You can get a pick guard adhesive for it.
I don’t like teaching my students to play with a pick because the become dependent on it. When they can’t find a pick to play with, they can’t play.
You’re an adult and you can be more aware of these things. I suggest you learn to play both ways ☺️

Hi B! I’ve been watching your videos and yes, I’m still a beginner beginner (picked up an uke for the very first time). I’ve been going to uke lessons for over a month now and still working on some challenges with switching chords in the middle of strumming. Learning new chords and adding them to the routine are also something I’m trying to improve. I found your total beginner video is the best for a beginner beginner like me. My daily practice isn’t as extensive as this warm-up. I wish I had found this video sooner. Though I truly appreciate this video as I’m going to watch it everyday and incorporate it to my practice. Mahalo nui 🙏🏼

@@BernadetteTeachesMusic Hi Bernadette, It's now been over a month since I added the blues progression to my daily practice. Wow! what a difference in my playing, especially with chord changes with more complicated strumming patterns. I recently completed your 30-day Uke Challenge (I started it on June 9, 2019) and am I now playing independently, working on barre chords and have learned 3 songs: Imagine, Have you ever seen the rain, and Stand by me. When I started playing in June 2019, I never thought I would be able to play as well as I am at this point. I still have a long way to go but I love playing and learning. I have a problem due to slight arthritis in my left hand fingers. Can't put all 3 fingers down equally for the E7 chord. If I can reach the 2nd fret A string, then I have trouble with my middle finger accidentally touching the E string. I have tried using my ring finger and also my baby finger for the A string, but still can't move to the chord easily. Any ideas? Love Kit Kat. My tabby kitten is lying beside me while I practise.

That's great and I love it, BUT can you explain between 7:28 and 7:54 how you manage to do that dead string stroke when your fingers are already committed when you are holding the D7 and the A7 chords. I dont see how you are deadening the strings for the dead click stroke while doing those two chords. If I do it the chord still plays. How do you do that bit. I can do it on the A7 because I have plenty of fee fingers to put down to kill the strings. You only have five fingers like me so how do you do that ? Love to know.

I got my first musical instrument and i couldn't find any good video to learn, either they were to fast or they were putting the patters directly onto the songs...and i found this😃finger pattern, chord pattern, everything... thank u😃

Is it just me or does the chuck pattern sound more like a DX U UXU rather than a D XU UXU? In other words, it seems like you pause for a half beat after the first chuck. My island strum doesn't sound the same as yours...

Hi there! I know this video is old so Im not sure if youll see this but I just started learning ukulele and was wondering how long/ how many reps of this warm up set you would recommend? Id like to set a solid practice schedule for myself and would love your opinion. Great video and thank you so much!

When you do the chucks, I didn't see your fingers change on the left hand. How did you make the chuck/neutral strum?

You explained everything so well and in such detail but you didn't explain the chucking bit at all! How do you do the chuck?

From a saw injury, I’m missing my middle finger and can’t fully curl my index, so picking and strumming is particularly challenging. But this routine is really good for me. Thanks! ❤
