at 2hrs 3mins when Serge says back it up, my internet tweaked out and the video rewound 30 seconds. I wasn't watching, only listening, and I thought I was losing my mind
I like seeing everyone in the eight player drafts. If y'all enjoy them as well I'd call that a win-win. Edit: Good job, Paul on the manual card reading!
I must say after hearing Serge talk about it again. I believe in every single pack of MB2 there is exactly 1 playtest, 1 future sight and 1 white border. Each of those has 121, 136 and 120 cards respectively. The chances of duplicates of those cards are much more common than the remaining cards in the pack that are randomly chosen from the 1500+ cards with the 2 of each colour in order. I also know there are some "Digital only" MTGA arena cards (7 cards) made physical but I do not know where they appear. Serge specifically mentioned the CoCo and the Goblin recruiter which come from the future sight borders and so are 1/136 not taking into account rarity.
i actually like james' play of finding 2nd recruiter, there were like 2 turns where james wasn't drawing goblins which might've mattered, especially because its limited, rather than constructed
I very much appreciate the 8 player format, it allows more of the nice people of LRR to partake. One comment I’d have: I loved the BenBen vs Ben fight. Can we make „The BenBenBen Fight“ a special?
About the duplication, Coco and Goblin recruiter are from the furure sight sheet, which gets its own slot, so it is less rare to get duplicates from that card pool
Really enjoyed the 8 player format! Obviously the more important factor is LRR's time and energy for a longer stream, but if you're up for it, 8 players was great!
Love 8-player drafts!!! 😍 If you all wanted to cut it down a little bit, you could skip any 3rd games. It’d be fine just calling them as 1-1 ties and move onto the next round.
3:21:37 James as a mechanic will come in a Zendikar-themed commander deck. Not sure if it will be Commander Horizons or a return to return to return to Zendikar. I always have difficulty remembering when non-standard sets come out in relation to standard sets, so I don’t know which will happen first. Paul as a mechanic will be in Kamigawa: Future Sight. Unfortunately, it won’t be used to deal lethal until a card from 2036 combos with it in a way the designers did not expect. It does go infinite with One with Nothing, so banning would mean crushing an archetype. Nelson, I’m sorry, but we missed the chance for a Nelly mechanic. If we didn’t get it with OTJ, we aren’t ever going to get it. But they did name a legendary creature after you as compensation.
Question which you've probably got a solid answer for since you've been doing this so long - how come you use such shallow depth of field for the draft cams? It seems every stream there's issue with the drafters needing to find a spot to show the audience and then inevitably drifting out of it: can you not just stop down to widen that depth and then boost exposure/iso to compensate? It'd be a little grainier but much preferable from an audience standpoint to be able to read cards.
“2 attackers with 2 power.” “No blocks” “I’ll give *this* one Flying, First Strike, and Trample. So you take 5” Where did the extra 1 damage come from? EDIT: “I wish I could run companions outside the colour identity of my commander” I got good news for you, buddy! EDIT2: NOW I know why wheeler was so proud of himself during drafting. EDIT3: no matter how slowly it’s said, I can’t hear Joraga Treespeaker. Only Derogatory Speaker.
What do you mean they can just check what the button says? 90% of they episodes they say they have no idea, and this episode they just CHECK?! Where was this?!! 1:59
Maybe they got the shallow end of the pool, but my experience with Mystery 1 was that the card pool was good and reasonable, but these packs are full of trash.
Great show (Kathleen still doesn't read her magic cards which is lame, don't think that is an unreasonable expectation from a professional magic stream) Good bits and good vibes though, thank you
this disappointed me, too, and i felt Ben's table friending was less than neutral. Cori's initial attack leaving Sorin underdefended felt encouraged in an uncool way, and then after multiple misreads Ben points out the actual damage Kathleen had and that she could in fact defeat Sorin. it felt gross and i could not continue watching. this was not a PPR, so outside of actual rules errors (not play errors) i would expect the table friending to have reduced influence, and whenever not neutral should lean toward benefitting the less experienced player.

Freaking love Paul. He works so hard for everyone!
Poor Paul got out to work this stream . Makes you realize how important he is even if he is just the man behind the curtain most of the time
Wheeler casually manifesting a months' rent out of that one pack before the draft.
Me casually manifesting 750 Canadian being a month's rent 😅
Rule of Thumb for Kathleen: If the card is pointed in Canlander and colorless, you don't pass it.

Casual $700 card pull, no biggie.
I don't have the time to watch the draft. What'd they open? 👀

I absolutely love the chaos of roll for intro. Thank you so much for your time/energy LRR!!!!!!!!
Also, yes i love magic and would love to meet 7 out of the 8 of you in person, but I will not be anywhere near Las Vegas so shucks to 2 out of 3...

In MB1 each of the 15 cards was a 1/121 slot basically, did they deviate that significantly from that now?
I thought they kept that around.
Definitely enjoyed the 8-player draft. Hopefully, y'all will figure out the logistics for time, etc. FYI, Card Kingdom is currently out of buttons.
Ben could not pump his kithkin with his brood mistress because she has MV=3 and the kithkin has protection from that. O:
True!
Wild that it actually mattered, never saw the eggwatcher flip lol

Very amusingly I got both the New Master of Arms and the OG in the same pack.
James's deck is amazing, and double recruiter is def correct, card is amazing
Seeing an 8 player draft was fun, and seeing more rounds is always fun.

That was so cool paul what you did with the Shidako flip. AWESOME tech move.
I was waiting for the MB2 draft!

Man, shout out to Paul for the huge work he does to make these watchable
On that "This is the best draft environment of all time." - I wish we had fewer sign-post uncommons and more wackiness for limited in general.

Do 8 player drafts, start the stream early for the draft itself, kick off gameplay at the usual time.
