As a retired milliner myself, I was leery of watching a hat review video from a woman with a banana on her head... but, it only goes to show you can’t judge a woman by her hat (at least, not all the time😜)! What a fabulous review! I have never heard or seen any other milliner talk about the style lines of hats matching the lines of the wearer’s garments, or the appropriateness of proportions and materials of hats to outfit, and color choice! BRAVO! Excellent video! I did like the shape of Princess Beatrice’s hat/headband, too bad if it was “heavy”, but...just as I loved Princess Catherine’s floral headpiece (was my absolute favorite), I thought they both resembled tiaras! Penny’s was also a favorite. Liking, subscribing and looking up your website!💋💋 PS. Please do more hat reviews! So brilliant!

I don't know if I would ever be comfortable wearing hats like the ones in this video. But the ones that worked looked great on the people wearing them!
I’m in the US and in a women’s vintage group ages 20s through 60s. We all wear hats, mostly vintage or vintage reproduction. Same for clothing. I’d say about half of us wear vintage full time, the others only for events. But always a hat! Even if just a simple beret 😊
Oh please, after the king and queens choice of hats I think everyone agrees, Princess Anne’s hat wins the prize for the best and most useful hats on the day 😂
I really loved Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, always a very elegant dresser. Thank you for the information re a soft veil on the hat to soften small eye lines, I will be keeping a note of that tip. Loved the teal outfit too.❤
Really enjoyed this review. I grew up wearing a hat and gloves to church every Sunday and also whenever we went to "town". I was always told that the most important consideration for a hat which is to be worn at a seated indoor event (like church) was that it did not block the view of people sitting behind - so small hats only inside. However "town", garden parties, race meetings etc - large hats were fine. So I thought the ladies who wore smaller hats or headwear at the Coronation showed good manners and consideration of others.
I so agree. As a courtesy to those seated behind me, I would never wear a big hat to an event like this. They are fine for outdoor events where everyone is moving around, but who wants to be stuck in a seat for two hours trying to see around a big hat? A small hat or headpiece is much more appropriate for an event like this. I’m probably from the same generation as you, when I was a child, our mothers did wear, mostly white, gloves to go out, and hats. But, my Mom adamantly refused to ever wear a hat.
Love your passion for hats, which makes you such a trustworthy commentator! I never wore a hat myself, but just love you comments and your subjects as well. Please comment Lady Louise's hat, which I personally found beautiful on her. Please also kindly comment the Princess of Wales and Charlotte's head pieces and other ones (such as Kate Perry's) that we missed to spot during the wonderful coronation ceremony. Congratulations on your great videos! 😍
Decades ago we traveled to London for a wedding. I have fond memories of shopping for a proper hat to wear at Harrods for the occasion. I love your hat critique - you kept it light with concise, intelligent remarks. Encore, please.
Your video is charming and interesting to watch and my first time viewing you. There were so many other hats at the coronation I hope you will do a sequel to include them with your remarks. Queen Leticia of Spain and Lady Louise Windsor wore creations that really caught my eye.
What a charming and informative video! I love the way the British have preserved the custom of wearing hats, at least for special occasions. It seems that in the US you never see them except in old movies.
@@cynn3367 I wondered about that. You would think an advisor would have counseled her about the custom of mature women wearing hats on more formal occasions.
I actually heard one person critical of Penny Mordant. I think she wore the most beautiful dress and hat. I thought the color was perfect for her role in the service. She looked good from her comfortable, stylish shoes to her hat. I'm an American and I didn't know who she was until later.
Great, really informative & helpful for those of us who have great difficulty in choosing a hat. I miss the days of old when men & women wore hats. I'm in my 70's & recall in the 1950's my father mother uncle & aunts e.t.c. all stepping out in hats. Those were the days.❤
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your "banana hat"! Penny Mordaunt's teal ensemble (& especially that glorious matching halo style hat) gives me life! I always love the hats Princess Beatrice chooses - even her quirkier selections.
Princess Beatrice is famous for her hats especially because of the "unusual" hat she wore to Prince William and Catherine's wedding. I loved that she auctioned the hat for charity. I was the lead bidder at one stage ($10k) but was soon outbid 😢
I love Princess Beatrice's quirkier hats. I just wish she would receive some training in proper facial expressions. She doesn't seem to know how to contain her odd features.
I love your banana hat! It's harmonious and beautiful! Just like your wonderful personality! You are very talented with fashion. I will be contacting you soon for advice. Best wishes Bonnie Ohio USA
Crown Princess Marie of Denmark was gorgeous. Well put together style and flawless makeup! I love blues, but everyone looked so chic! Your descriptions are so professional Ilona!
Pippa looked perfect! 👍 I create my own unique hats, these rules are so useful! I loved Zara's, maybe a bit high, but she's tall! Some of the pale pinks were completely washed out, and looked awful! (Charlene looked much bigger her hat was too small!) Black hats are unflattering and harsh, except at funerals! Red and Orange are ok at parties! Definitely mens ties to match! Crown Princess Mary is extraordinary (tired eyes)! The Middletons were all elegant! Katy Perry's, too big! 👍
My favourites are the one worn by Penny (I didn't catch her surname, I'm not British) her outfit was divine reminded me of Cleopatra) also the Princess of Jordan looked beautiful. I don't think huge hats are practical for seated events, the people in the rows behind would not be impressed, keep them for the races. Sorry I wouldn't dream of wearing your hat with a banana atop unless I'm attending a child's party
Hi, Thank you for your critiquing the hats of the coronation. I would gladly have spent more time with you on the topic, with you so clearly showing the details that I have missed. I also enjoyed your Carmen Miranda moment with your fruit embellished percher. I'm looking forward to the content of your next broadcast. Yours, Ann
I loved your commentary on the hats, feel a bit cheated that nobody gave such a good commentary as yourself on what people are wearing on the day This moved my understanding of hats and outfits by the bit. Well done, and I hope to see you talk again about our hats.❤❤
Fascinating ideas, but I'm a bit uncomfortable with treating husbands like liverymen and insisting that they must match their wives' outfits. I don't think you'd do it the other way round - we don't expect women to behave like their husbands' fashion accessories (at least, not in this country!), and perhaps we should accord men some independence here. They aren't footmen, and can surely be permitted to choose their own ties! They have little enough dress choice at an event of this nature (unless of course they're Scottish).
❤️LOVED this video!💕 I agreed with all of your assessments. I'm sure I will watch this over and over again, as I cannot decide which look was my favorite. Keep the videos coming and happy hat wearing. Looking forward to your next live stream. Cheers!☺️
The princess of Monaco outfit bothered me. It seemed off. Her shoulders looked huge. Now I see that it's the hat that was too small. I like your hat but not the banana on top. 😂😂❤
I agree with your personal favourite of all the Coronation outfits worn by Penny Mordent. I particularly disliked the small bow fascinator Jill Biden wore.
Princess Anne's hat and cape stole the show for me. I know that bicorns aren't exactly typical formal wear, but my goodness what I wouldn't give to sweep into a cathedral looking like a cross between Horatio Lord Nelson and Miranda Priestly 😍
Yes, wasn't it fun seeing her sweep out the side door with her cape all aflow? I was quite disappointed when off it came for her to ride behind the King's carriage.
That was a great analysis. I didnt even realise that Ms Murthy was even wearing a hat, thanks for clearing that up.I agree with all your comments. Would you mind doing a video on the rest of the hat wearers at the coronation? for example Queen Letizia - do you agree that her lovely hat was too big for her? Queen Maxima, as usual when it comes to big events, slayed with her Phillip Treacy (I think). Queen Mathilde's hat was an uncharacteristic miss for me, whereas I loved Eva Omagomi's amazing style.
I really enjoyed your presentation-please do another one on more coronation hats. Also would you comment on Princess of Wales headpiece and what you think about young girls like Princess Charlotte wearing headpieces/hats. Thank you very much
Only the great Lady C has discussed matching the “weight” of your hat to your garments. Delightful video and with your perfect diction and lack of distracting background music, I can safely share it with a hard of hearing person who will also enjoy it.
Hello, Thank you so much for your lovely comment ❤️ I have just added some subtitles, so that the hard of hearing person you want to share this with also has the option to see the words on screen 😊
I loved Carol Middleton and Pippa Middleton's looks. I am 4ft 11in and find it difficult to find hats that don't make me look like a standard Lamp! I also wear Glasses which doesn't make it easy for the hat to stay on.
First time I have watched your channel, and really enjoyed your roundup of the hats, and your knowledge..Are large hats appropriate when it obviously obscures peoples view? especially this occasion.
This was lovely and fun! You introduced vocabulary about hats that's completely new to me. Definitely had to subscribe! I think people shouldn't be afraid to wear hats even if it makes them feel conspicuous. I fell in love with hats thanks to Princess Diana. If I find a hat I love, I wear it and enjoy it.
Hello Lora, thank you for your lovely comment 😊 I am so glad I could introduce you to something new! 👒 I feel the same way about wearing hats as you do - I think hats should be conspicuous and fun.
I noticed some less than flattering dresses on a couple women in this clip. The hat pointers are great even though hats aren't worn as much anymore by the general populace like they once were especially here in the United States.
Love this video so much but i’m surprised you didn’t mention Queen Letezia’s hat. It felt so wrong, drawing all the attention away from a gorgeous dress
REALLY enjoyed this video: the first of its kind, I believe? I've happily subscribed. In my opinion, the majority of female guests at the Coronation looked stunning, apart - unfortunately - from Princess Charlene of Monaco, who always seems to get it wrong, wrong, wrong on all levels! Wasn't she a model before marrying? What on earth has happened to her sense of style since then?
Princess Charlene of Monaco was a professional swimmer before her marriage. Her two outfits at this coronation ( pre coronation reception and the day dress) were a rare miss. And she looked miserable
Pippa never fails to disappoint on occasions like these, she like her sister & mother wear's a hat beautifully. Zara as always looks perfect in the colour & the style of her outfit & hat. Samantha Cameron looked lovely, both the outfit & hat added some warmth to the drab grey day. Penny Mordant was spot on, hat, outfit, shoes everything was pure class & completely appropriate for the role she was given to preform
No mention of Queen Letizia of Spain’s lampshade hat? I love her looks 99%, and usually her style is spot on, but this look shocked me a bit! Thoughts?
I do like your hat! Where & what occasion would you wear such a unique hat? 😉 Speaking of unique hats; I am very glad Princess Beatrice did not recycle her Philip Treacy hat, although I really saw nothing wrong with Eugenie's hat. I am surprised that you didn't bring up Katie Perry's ensemble. As an American, (we know little, but want to learn about hats & fascinators), I thought she did a great job. Many however thought she had overdone it a bit.
Hello! Thank you for your comment. I am so glad you like my hat! 🍌👒 I wore it on the day of the coronation for a party with my friends. I will be wearing it again at another party watching Eurovision this weekend, and also to a garden party later in the year. I would class it as a fun cocktail hat not to be taken too seriously - so any occasion that is a bit of a laugh.
I notice that Penny Mordant walked into the cathedral in flat dark shoes but later, when she was ready for action, she was wearing her nude heels. Wise move....
Same here! I look ridiculous in all styles. I don't feel comfy with anything on my head. However, I loved this video and enjoyed seeing some that were so right, and hear the explanation as to why they looked so good.
Hello Barbara, Thank you for your question. I recommend trying a turban, it will sit neatly on your head as long as it is fitted well. Alternatively any hat that adds height such as a halo crown or bandeaux style such as Penny and Beatrice were wearing might work well.
😊Enjoyed your 👑Coronation Hat Overview. Interesting to hear your perspective about angles & proportion👩🏫. Could've soaked in many more moments of your marvelous millinery mentoring... 🤔Although it seemed as though you contradicted yourself RE Akshata Murthy. 😬Was your biggest objection the fact it blended w/her beautiful black hair? While it didn't match her pretty blue dress, she did coordinate the black hat w/her clutch purse & other accessories. Plus, you gave other examples of ladies who could've done the same style color trick w/improved results. 😉The lady in 🍊 two tone 🟠 orange ensemble comes to mind. Your suggestion of a 🔹️royal blue hat & bag🔹️ would've been more⚡️ striking combo w/her 🔸️dress🔸️. Going tonal is a calculated risk w/🧢hats & 👕clothing👖. So many stylists suggest taking this route, but it doesn't always pan out in my book😔. Seen many instances where that leaves you w/the impression the person might've dressed in the dark😳. Of course, I'm someone who would never pair off-white w/white. Funny, you should say that men ought to color match their companion. Also in your camp. 👔Think it's very charming when they wear a tie or waistcoat in a similar color. Recently an American YT men's fashion influencer responded to a viewer question about 💍wedding attire. He was strongly against matching your date. He felt it was an outdated prom notion. Simply believe the English 🇬🇧 understand how to do it in an elegant vs tacky manner. 🙏Wish hats in general, & these ✨️glorious✨️ creations in particular, would come back en vogue in the US🇺🇸. We only rarely get to see such delightful confectionery here. Unless at the Kentucky🏇 Derby or dotted about some 💒churches at ✝️Easter. To get our hat fix, we must turn to the ⚜️BRF & your shores. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

Princess Beatrice's champagne pleated headband-ish hat: While it was a pretty hat, I'd love to have seen little tucks of the dress color in the pleating. It would have blended quite well & (in my opinion) made the hat look more 'connected'. To me, it looked rather like she forgot she was supposed to wear a hat & just grabbed something out of her closet.

Considered...good grief.
Lady Helen Taylor, bun with white and black outfit and hat. My favorite.
Wasn't she fabulous! A low bun is one of my personal favourite go to hairstyles. 👒😊
Lady Ann’s hat worked overtime. It had several roles. 😂
Do you mean Princess Anne?
Very cheeky, Believe123, my coffee nearly choked me! And......agreed!
@@amyw6808 Sorry. Yes Princess Ann.
The sword bearer was absolutely stunning!
This was really interesting. We used to wear hats when I was young in the 50s, mostly to church where I lived in the country.
Decades ago we traveled to London for a wedding. I have fond memories of shopping for a proper hat to wear at Harrods for the occasion. I love your hat critique - you kept it light with concise, intelligent remarks. Encore, please.
Oh my! Please give us more hat critiques along with everything we love! X
Watching the Coronation, my sister says Penny Mordaunt's hat will be repeated at the Melbourne Cup in November this year, it was spectacular.
Fantastic! Such good guidelines for pairing your hat to your ensemble.
Thank you! I hope you can find them useful 😊👗
Penny's outfit was MAGNIFICENT!!!!!
So much technical detail in styling a hat perfectly. I really enjoyed this insight. ❤
I really appreciate the basics on good hat selection. Very helpful!
Zara is always on point!
Maybe that's why Dr. Jill wore a bow.
Or at the Kentucky Derby!
And in the Black church.
@@cynn3367 I wondered about that. You would think an advisor would have counseled her about the custom of mature women wearing hats on more formal occasions.
@@vbrown6445a lot of those have gotten away from hats unless it’s certain denominations and First Ladies
I actually heard one person critical of Penny Mordant. I think she wore the most beautiful dress and hat. I thought the color was perfect for her role in the service. She looked good from her comfortable, stylish shoes to her hat. I'm an American and I didn't know who she was until later.
Who was that?? I'll fight them!!
The only problem with Penny Mordant was her wearing heels on the 13th century Cosmati pavement (mosaic).
Great, really informative & helpful for those of us who have great difficulty in choosing a hat. I miss the days of old when men & women wore hats. I'm in my 70's & recall in the 1950's my father mother uncle & aunts e.t.c. all stepping out in hats. Those were the days.❤
As children we would never enter into church on Sunday without a hat.
They were indeed.
ARIES here! Baby Boomer ! I love wearing hats! Aries dies rule the head so I guess that makes sense! 🤔🥰🤗🇩🇪🇨🇭🇺🇲💙
Lol! DOES!
You can you know, wear hats.
Just remove them indoors as your generation taught us.
Well done young lady, very enjoyable AND informative.
I really enjoyed the fact how kind you were about the not so spot on fashions. 🇺🇸😉
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your "banana hat"! Penny Mordaunt's teal ensemble (& especially that glorious matching halo style hat) gives me life! I always love the hats Princess Beatrice chooses - even her quirkier selections.
if anyone can be considered a "seasoned hat wearer" I am sure Princess Beatrice of York is on the list
Best wishes

Hello Bonnie! Thank you so much for your lovely comment, I look forward to hearing form you 😊👒
Just loved Zara’s outfit and hat ❤️
She DID have the coolest hat.
Crown Princess Marie of Denmark was gorgeous. Well put together style and flawless makeup! I love blues, but everyone looked so chic! Your descriptions are so professional Ilona!
My favorite hat was the one worn by Queen Letizia of Spain. Gorgeous all around (no pun intended) 😊
La unica pareja, matrimonio guapos de toda la coronacio❤
Yes, I loved the British Parliamentarian outfit.
Dos and don'ts surely prompt a search for something more. Honestly, some humans will always color outside the lines. Some create absolute magic ❤
Wow. Fabulous review. Too many lovely hats and outfits to pick but if I had to, Pippa Middleton looked positively fantastic.
Yours, Ann
Hi Ann, thank you so much! I always enjoy reading your comments 👒😊
The big point in my opinion was that women should not have been wearing any hat that impeded the line of sight for others
I loved your commentary on the hats, feel a bit cheated that nobody gave such a good commentary as yourself on what people are wearing on the day This moved my understanding of hats and outfits by the bit. Well done, and I hope to see you talk again about our hats.❤❤
I thought the banana piece indicated boldness with a touch of humor, and irreverence. I liked it!
I would love your opinion about the hat worn by Leticia, the Queen of Spain.
Cheers!☺️
My favorite outfit was Zara's Loved her hat! Would love to see her husbands outfit. They are usually matching
I always think that large hats in an indoor setting are just rude. Who wants to sit behind someone with a large hat at a wedding?
Great video . I agree with you on Charlene of Monaco. She did not look good .
Yes, more hat selections, do's and dont's.
The princess of Monaco outfit bothered me. It seemed off. Her shoulders looked huge. Now I see that it's the hat that was too small. I like your hat but not the banana on top. 😂😂❤
@Buffy S that too. But the silhouette was all wrong.
I wish we in the United States still wear hats as the Europeans do. I love hats.
European women seldom wear hats, it is mora a british custom
I agree with your personal favourite of all the Coronation outfits worn by Penny Mordent. I particularly disliked the small bow fascinator Jill Biden wore.
One should never wear a fascinator over the age of 50. It looks like she's trying to appear 20.
I loved this video. Please produce more content especially about major royal events.
Charlene has other problems to worry about
Your hat in this video brought a smile to me face after a very trying day. Thank you.
Love this video! Too many good hats to choose from, although I’m partial to Princess Anne’s bicorne and the teal one with gold leaves.
I think the teal with gold leaves is turning out to be the favorite in the UK!
Also I love the 🍌! Reminds me of hats by Bes-Ben but with a contemporary flair!
One thing sorry! If you flip a photo PLEASE say so. Penny Mordaunt's gold fern embroidery was actually on the right.
Brilliant - what fun this was to watch. Thank you for this delightful post.❤❤🇨🇦
I love your commentary and critique in wearing hats. I've learn something, for I love to wear hats.
Love this! I wish we wore hats in America, subbing to your channel because i love millinery.
This was fascinating👒 Thank You for sharing your expertise with us!!!
I didnt like neither her dress nor her hat, a rare miss for QL
Please do a tutorial on appropriate hats for a Summer and Winter church funeral, where black is required.
Delighted that video popped up on my feed. Thoroughly enjoyed your wonderfully detailed critique 🎉👍🏼
Thank you so much! 👒 😊
@@fuchurZero I fear that she IS a very unhappy lady.
@@phoenixrising6245 well, she IS a very unhappy lady, this is no secret
Beatrice head band was terrible... it just doesn't work ..
The one that accompagnied Pippa was her brother James, not her husband
Now, if you could only convince the ladies of the US to wear hats again! I loved your video and subscribed! Can’t wait for more❣️❣️
oh please, no! This US lady doesn't want to!
This was so interesting, and i think your feedback on the hats good and not so good was done in a really positive way.
No mention of Queen Letizia of Spain’s lampshade hat? I love her looks 99%, and usually her style is spot on, but this look shocked me a bit! Thoughts?
I absolutely loved her look. What a beautiful woman. Did you see her dress by Victoria Beckham at the pre-Corronation reception?
What a pleasant surprise, well done young lady!
Agree! 👆
I love hats but they don’t suit me. However I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and learned so much.
Same here! I look ridiculous in all styles. I don't feel comfy with anything on my head. However, I loved this video and enjoyed seeing some that were so right, and hear the explanation as to why they looked so good.
Excellent critique of the hats, very informative and useful when choosing a hat or headpiece.
How does one wear a hat , especially if one has fine, thin hair?

I really love your channel...I was quite surprised you only had 9k subs....WE MUST LIKE AND SHARE!
Another great outfit was worn by Lady Louise Windsor. I think her her hat matched her delicate floral dress perfectly. What are your thoughts on this?
This American really enjoyed and learned from this video. Never knew about you before so this is quite nice addition to my morning routine. I like your presentation and appreciate your sharing your skill and knowledge without an air of patronizing superiority. You are lovely to behold, listen to and experience! All the best in your business and profession... ~West Virginia, USA
Hello! Thank you for your lovely comment, I really appreciate it. I'm glad to add some Millinery to your morning routine 😊👒
