In uni I was always accused of starting my research topic too broad , gathering seemingly irrelevant information , but using it to somehow come up with a unique spin on the end product. No one had confidence in me. They thought I was scattered and unfocused but in the end I zeroed in and synthesized everything into a very cool conclusion. Because it's such a different approach than most people take to analyze and reach conclusions , my profs were usually very critical until they finally read my papers with their jaws dropped and a resulting A+. Working in teams was tough on projects because it took me a long time to grasp things but then as you said, it comes like a lightening flash. Others demand a more consistent approach and made me feel like I was lazy and not contributing when in fact it was exactly the opposite. Just that I couldn't articulate right off the bat and in a linear fashion.

One of my favorite homework assignments was when my professor asked me a question that did not pertain to a graded assignment. It was a critical thinking question and that is what I did I went home "slept on it" for I think a week and the answer just came. I wish more teachers would prompt this way of thinking.

Rambling is a sign that you’re not prepared and Fe is trying to figure out the rules for Ni and Ti to operate in. It will manifest into talking in circles because Ni/Ti is looping. Ni understands the end but, it doesn’t understand the beginning. At that point an INFJ will need to stop talking and gather more information. Ti child wants to be right and Ne Nemesis is paranoid about other people’s intentions. The logic is “I’m covering all my bases because I’m not sure what I’m saying is true and isn’t being verified.”
    Direct, Responding, Movement.

My Ni with my husband’s Ne…. He talks and talks and talks. I can see how your analogy applies, he knows he’s going to come across the point somewhere and is happy to take the time to find it. I’m sitting there like “I get it, I know the point, let’s get on with it”.

  • @ectomorphine4609

Yeah I think Ni doms go on rambles because Ni is picking up pieces of information unconsciously ("Does this piece of information serve the end goal of what you are trying to get across"?).
Then we will try to synthesize consciously as much as we can through speech and if we make a mistake, we make a pause, stop talking and deviate to another path. Sort of like zigzagging without losing track of the statue (end goal) like you mentioned, right?
We have the answer, but the problem would be explaining to others how you got to it without trying to sound illogical or biased or making the baader-meinhof leap (I think I'm saying it right?). I think the baader-meinhof leap and Ni can go hand in hand because Ni is quick to notice patterns and symbols and will synthesize and say something like: "See, I told you! You are not crazy. You need to protect yourself from this person. He is dangerous for your wellbeing. This person demonstrates the same patterns as that other person, remember?".

It’s like this, Ren: I walk every day and enjoy it but it is almost winter 🇦🇺 and I want to keep walking, so studied walking pad treadmills, selected one to suit me and bought it. Yesterday it arrived and I unpacked it and leaned it up against a wall. It will stay there and I walk past it knowing that my brilliant intuitive mind will let me know what room it will go in and when I’ll be ready to learn how to use it. Am not in a rush. The day will come when all the info will come together and then I’ll just do it and do it fast!

Being an Ni dominant, I also tend to say my statements as: “(insert discussion here) BUT, (and then followed by a pause as you did near the beginning of the video)......” It’s like I say BUT because I know there’s some other angle to be considered or just that I know there is a contradiction to it but cannot articulate it easily. When I say BUT after a long sentence and give a good pause, I am thinking of how to best say the words while I already have the whole picture in mind. Perhaps I am translating illustrations to words or simplifying complex ideas. We kind of speak the same way Renaud haha. It’s rare to find someone who speak that way. I bet you like how you sound. :)

I laughed so many times in this video at the sheer joy of watching Ni in action and what is more, you appear comfortable in it, with others it feels awkward, for you it doesn't seem that way! I completely relate with this in such a deep way and I am so happy I've been catching up on your videos, I have been missing out on so much! I enjoy this a lot, and learn so much from it. The thing is I myself feel so awkward in my Ni at times because of several reasons, and people seem to think I will never reach an end to my conclusion, when in fact I know my conclusion, I just can't directly describe it without "beating around the bush" a bit first. It's like a strange stair stepping process that I must exercise before being able to get to my point, and people often grown tired of listening to my rambling because they want me to get to the point, LOL. I am aware of this and so I am insecure about it and I need to find a way to become more comfortable and let my Ni lead me. It is so cool how our brains are wired, but sometimes, it is inconvenient when needing to explain things in a hurry. When writing or conversion non-verbally, I can be quite long-winded, (you know this first-hand lol) but it seems to be the best way for me to let go of that insecurity that people will think I don't know what I am talking about because of my rambling... lol. I guess because I am not face to face, and the pressure of appearing like I want to is less dramatic. Hmm.. it seems like I am rambling now... haha on to the next video, before I take up the whole screen with just trying to explain how well I can relate to this video... lol. OH! Another thought is that (personally speaking, ofc) Ni seems to need to gather information as we head towards the "statue" so as to "confirm" our original insight or point, or target, and this sort of helps validate us in a way, so we keep towards our goal in our zigzag fashion, making sure we have all the bits and pieces needed to make our point "perfect" or in the very least, to make sense to others who aren't Ni dominant. We need that "journey" to our goal for us to be able to make sense to others, because we don't understand how we got to the conclusion oftentimes so navigating it helps to explain it to ourselves so that we can explain it to others. :) I hope this makes sense, sheesh. LOL

Those last few sentences show some wonderful insight; sort of a self-monitoring process to leave no stone unturned while concurrently staying (mostly) on track. I think this shows a combined intensity of focus together with a desire to thoroughly explore inputs that can contribute to a better understanding of whatever point it is we are trying to make.

Ren, I make all of my videos on the fly. Never prepare, and why would I? Because I know that as soon as I start talking it comes out in full, just right anyway! Plus, I don’t want to muck a bout editing and trying to be scripted like others are.

Sharing ideas as an Ni seems scattered because the Ni’s direct answers are either vague to others or insufficient/unsatisfactory to the Ni. It may be vague to others because the Ni is aware of exceptions or circumstances, so the Ni shares the idea broadly (or in a specific way that only makes sense to the Ni because of the way the Ni associates the idea to many other ideas) to avoid having to explain it all. So, the Ni must take the long route to share an idea so that the listener understands WHY or HOW an idea is so.
Source: it would take too long for me to determine and explain the books, videos, and lectures that source what I’ve said. I am an Ni lol

@@aprilparker7151 Right!! I too do not "like" the term "ramble", because people are misinterpreting it, and what it actually is, due to their own subjective little reality of how they perceive things and the world on a personal level, combined with what is the "societal norm", where in actuality, most people are holding back their true selves, their "rambles" and deeper things, to be more of the "normal" and surface-level-person to not stick out etc, thus leaving their real self in the dark, shutting out the brilliance that lies within all of us, beyond the fear based psyche.

I don't know if this is just the other side of being an Ni dom, but as an INTJ I sometimes skip steps and go straight to the conclusion since I just know the in-between steps and end up having to go back to explain them. I find it helps to have the in-between steps be their own endpoints that I get to (in order) when trying to explain things in a way that is more understandable to others.

Someone who is ultimately about kaleidoscopic change within the mind, but can almost mever seem to find truth, well, ever. Hell, ypu could almlst argue, like many others have, than Ni fits INxPs more than INxJs in the classical Jungian sense because of their indifference to external possibilities, only the breadth of internal images produced by Se.

I found that if I had properly scrutinized my subject, I didn’t have to organize and rehearse the presentation. It would always just come to me bit by bit, one thing leading to another. And funny enough, any time anyone asks me how I allegedly memorized everything or how I was so calm and collected whilst not having a concrete plan, I’d say “It just came to me”.

INTP here. I envy you. I've made videos on other channels and I've pretty much accepted I'm never going to make a video on the spot in which I say everything I intend to say in the beginning. You described Ne as moles following multiple different paths underground. I would say I experience mine as I'm in a boat on a river delta with a strong current and multiple branches leading off it then multiple branches leading off each branch further along and while I can steer the boat, I largely get led by the current. Some lead to your statue at the end but in all likelihood I'll miss the statue and crash against the bank. I'll then need to get out of the boat, pick it up, wade through the river onto one of the other branches that lead in the direction of the statue. This crashing is my Ti saying "no you moron, you're going way off topic" and knowing I won't get anywhere near back to it because I'll forget what I was originally talking about. I'll experience this as me saying "aww fuck" and stopping recording. So most spontaneous videos I've done take the form of hundreds of small videos that are incredibly time consuming to put together, the ones where I've been too lazy to do that involve hundreds of tangents and don't cover everything I wanted to say and the ones I've scripted just sound lifeless and boring and at least to me sound VERY CLEARLY scripted.

In the case of your “statue” symbol, in this video, I would describe Ni as more of a hollowed out vision of the statue and the journey involves gathering concrete data that materializes the statue over time. It’s as though you know the vision is of a statue, but you don’t have a clear picture of the statue yet. Once you are able to take in enough of the big picture, the full image of the statue materializes before you and your vision suddenly becomes very clear and you get a full insight. This is the “aha” moment, as I visualize it.

@@Tified967, I follow CPT as well. I think dipping down into Si would make sense, as far as the process of rendering something concrete and tangible internally. I would add that this process is also likely possible with the use of Si-Fi, but maybe in a more subjectively experiential way. I am actually an INFP, myself and I can very much relate to recounting previous experiences I’ve had and reliving them in my head over and over again. But those patterns will let you fall into the rabbit hole where no one has ever been into that path, it requires a sacrifice you will loose your time with your friends, family, your loved one, and missed out the events of the present moment. Although there will be regrets the things that you missed because you spend time working hard on your goals, you forgot to eat and had sleepless nights.. Its better to have a healthy balance out Ni and Se so you wont burn out for overinflating Ni.

They say you should be very conscious of your dominant function, but it seems to me that, since it's something you're merged in all the time, it's something very difficult instead. Like asking a fish what's the stuff he lives in.
I watched this and another video about Ni - I don't know if you made some other on the subject - and while I am not 100% sure that Ni is my dominant function, I think I have a clearer grasping of what it might be. I liked the metaphor of the statue in the room, because it explains pretty well my style of approaching writing. Whether I'm writing my thoughts or a story, oftentimes I don't have a clear idea of what I'm going to write and sometimes not even a conscious idea at all. I just start writing whatever comes up in my head and then I see the thoughts going towards a certain direction on their own, until they hit the climax of the story or the topic I carded to talk about.

I'm a bit more confident on using Ni now. For some time I had total confidence I used Ni until I examined my writings and the feedback from my writings and they all seemed Ne to me. Perhaps I'm not writing enough to ever focus or hone in on one thing. Additionally all of my writings are timed analysis's of literature. We aim to write 3 pages within 40 minutes so that time constraint may also be whats preventing me from ever honing in on a target

    • @RensRoom

    • @josephbest2706
      @josephbest2706 5 років тому

@@RensRoom The analytical essays seemed Ne to me because they seemed very scattered and my teachers complain that they don't see how some of my points are related to the thesis. In my non-analytical writings I use a lot of metaphors and lack descriptive language which I was told is characteristic of Ne. Although my "linear" analysis's are much better than my analysis's on specific rhetorical devices. By "linear" I mean analyzing the literature from start to finish and by "rhetorical devices" I mean devoting each paragraph to a specific technique like ambiguities or juxtaposition and explaining what meaning they develop. Although these are all timed writings that force me to write a particular way under a time constraint.
Last year the majority of my writings were current event journals which were not timed and involved a personal response, I did exceptionally well on these essays and my teacher told me they became the best in the class. Thanks to the american education system, I had never written an essay until I was 17, so this lack of practice could also contribute to a lack of the articulation associated with Ni in my writing.
I could send you one of those current even journals if you would be kind enough to analyze it. Analyzing a writing of a suspected INFJ could potentially be beneficial to your grasp of trends in INFJ writing, while also broadening my grasp on how functions manifest in writing. The essays are only about 700 words, divided between the analysis and personal response, which isn't a lot, but I don't know how busy your life is at the moment.

I'm pretty sure I use Ni, and if Im correct in that assumption I think your statue analogy is perfect. The way I picture the act of reaching said statue is that I have an intuitive idea of where the path should be, and I'm certain of where certain rocks or obstacles or creatures might be embedded within the path, so the focus is put entirely on crafting the safest or most sensible or most structurally sound path so that nothing external can penetrate or incorrectly interpret said path. I spend my time in conversation, and writing, perhaps even in thinking, by contributing wooden support beams to the underground burrow, and rounding out the edges of the path so that it is a smoother ride to return back and forth between, following the one direction I know concludes in uncovering the statue. Another way I interpret it is that there is an existant network of components that add depth to the original thought, and in order to communicate the thought in tangible terms, I place a magnifying glass on these preexisting pieces that I was already aware of but didn't have precise terms to relate them to reality until I actually used my minds eye to peer intensely at them. Otherwise, it resides in the subconscious, and influences that gut feeling as it exists in a form rooted to my being but blurry to the part of me that relates to the external world.

Hello. Okay, so I will explain some stuffs, and you will tell me if that's Fi-Ne or Ni-Fe or Ni-Fi because I'm very confused right, so, please, help me out.
Most of the time, I experience the past as a theory? But, not like any random time of the past, because the others just randomly come with intense shame and regrets or Euphoric feelings and that is why I cannot force myself to remember the past concretely because, then, I won't feel or have the same emotions that I would have if they just popped up out of nowhere, but a specific time of past that was very important to me as I didn't do stuffs that, to me, I was supposed to do, and so I overthink about that period by imagining different scenarios of it over and over, but, slightly, modify them each time because I can't remember all of my fantasies exactly how they are. However, I also include the things I had to do in that period of time into my future as stuffs to accomplish in one way or another.
An example of that would be, me, creating new scenarios for that specific past time but, of course, with the same paths that it happened in, but different actions and impressions because, most of the time, I cannot remember the past in a concrete way enough to make sense of it and re-experience it, so I have to create one based on what I experienced in that time as past in my point of view.
I have bad memories of faces, voices, details behind the subjects; for example, if I'm trying to remember your face and I do it successfully, I won't be able to reproduce any other details other than your face and the placement you are in that envelops every other details as one. You get me? Or the fact that I have a tendency to always create sad or dramatic movies or fantasies stuffs in my head with the character being me and other people that I made up, and, sometimes, a reflection of people in my life, but I can never picture their faces clearly as I change everything about them and make them a perfect reflection of how I would like them to be in reality inside of my head, and then identifying with the painful scenarios of these inventive characters that I've made up inside of my mind while listening to sad songs in order to cry and not feel empty inside when I do feel like that. Or I can also create an hypothetical world of in an impossible future with all problems in this actual world being solved, and adopt this future as my reality and promise myself to turn it into everyone else reality; which, then, becomes possible to me as if I can imagine it, I can create it too because, weirdly, I believe I have a very great purpose on this Earth.

Very few people get the flow of my ramblings (holy INFPs, so grateful for them) and with all the others it just makes me feel awkward as fuck to the point where my words stumble and I am totally unable to express my actually quite insightful thoughts. It so depends on the person if I can shine my light or not. I have recently started dating an ENTP and I just cannot understand why the hell he likes me because Im absolutely unable to make sense of what I want to express around him. Random concepts come out and its so annoying and awkward I just give up trying every time. Hopefully he is perceptive enough to at least get that Im somewhat insightful about life. 🤣 The lesson Im learning from it though is that I have been in my solitary comfort zone for too long and its time to up my game and renew and clarify my ideas and thoughts to myself again first.

As Pedro Antonio said, INFJs (and INTJs) by definition have Ni as the dominant function. Each type is defined by having a particular set of functions in a particular order. If you're getting results from online questionnaires which indicate a relatively even balance between sensing and intuition, it could suggest that your sensing and intuition functions are your auxiliary and tertiary functions. This would in turn mean that you were a J-dom (i.e. thinking or feeling as the dominant function). For example, if your test results indicate a strong preference for feeling over thinking, that could mean that your dominant function is feeling, whether extraverted or introverted.
But online personality tests are are known to be very unreliable and there are all kinds of factors which can contribute to making the results you get from them inaccurate. The best way to clarify your type (if you're uncertain) is to spend more time researching the mental functions. But having said that, I've been studying this stuff for years and I'm still not sure what type I am!!
