I wish the mic could have caught what Pippen and LJ were saying to each other on the floor after the technical foul. Whatever LJ said made Pip go off. On a side note you know the guy who held up the "Michael Who?" sign felt like a complete ass after this game was over LOL
Actually they had bad blood before this game! LJ told Pippen to shut up and give Mike the ball. You can't talk if you hanging on the coattail of jordan.. They said Pip was made because LJ got a better contract... so then came this game!! 😂😂
That smirk from Jordan at 7:25 after he hits the 3 pointer to cut the deficit to 1 basically said it all. His body language said, "From this point on, I got this shit, don't worry." LOL.
This Bulls team used to toy with people. Half the time they'd fall behind to see if they could come back. I have all these games recorded, this team was incredible.
Anybody who truly knows basketball, and appreciates all around skills including stuff you don't see in the stat sheets (ex taking charges, altering shots, help defense, etc) plus pts, rbs, assts, steals, blocks, brilliant defending, , etc knows Pippen is one of the 15 -20 greatest all around players in history.
I remember this game like it was yesterday.. Pip and LJ had a war of words, Pip was pissed LJ got that big contract and LJ told him to "shut up and pass the ball to 23!" So came this game right after. Well (lol) Jordan let Pip have his moment the entire game... and Pip did.. in the 4th when the Bulls were down by 12 I think.. MJ took over!! Literally!! After the game they asked Jordan about the slow start and he said "...well I heard about Pip and LJ going at it so... I had to let little brother handle his business and fight his own fight... but eventually.. "big brother" had to step in and take over.. " 😂😂😂 #Greatness
That's a nice narrative, but it wasn't like that at all. Jordan was taking plenty of shots through the first three quarters...he just couldn't hit shit.
Yes!!! .. and Mike was big brother and made sure Scottie torched his ass before he closed the game! I remember this game AND the "after game" interview!!
@vincespell People like to gloss over Pippen's contributions to Chicago's titles. It was Pippen and the bench that lead the Bulls back from that 15 point deficit against Portland with Jordan cheerleading on the bench. It was Pippen hitting daggers down the stretch to close out the Knicks in the '93 ECF while Jordan shot blanks. It was Pippen putting in daggers against the Pacers in Game 7 '98 ECF. That's why they were such a great duo. When one was down the other was there to step in.
I remember that game. LJ basically questioned Pippen's impact on the Bulls. He said something like "All he's (Pippen) got to do is toss the ball to #23. He has the easiest job (in the league)." Pippen was the shit in this game, he did everything on the court and teared LJ a new one. Jordan was sleep-walking until the 4th, when he exploded for 20 points. Great game.
Great upload!! It looks like Jordan let Pippen have his little joust with Larry Johnson and then the 4th qtr was all his lol. It's like Jordan was laughing at the Knicks down the stretch of the game.
The thing that stuck out in that game for me was Jordan with that smirk on his face after each bucket during the last 5 mins of the game (I think he scored 20pts during that time).
before the game Larry Johnson was talking crap about Scottie not being that good. After the game grandmama had to put on granny panties and a hood over her head and go into the witness protection program. #33
Defensive ratings don't begin to measure a player's overall defensive presence. Jordan was a great defender but Pippen was the overall better defender. He was not only a great perimeter (and post) defender but he did things that don't show up on the stat sheet like sacrificing his body to take charges (something Jordan RARELY did). The clutch steal on Larry Johnson at the end of the game was no fluke. Pippen ALWAYS did shit like that. His post defense was awesome.
im glad 2 see that ppl kno that pippen was such a huge contribution to the bulls winning 6. i dont think ppl realize how much energy u save when u dont have to play d against top notch players. when jordan was playing, there were not that many top notch offensive perimeter players. it was a big man's league. and the few good perimeter players there were scottie guarded them AND there were hardly any perimter players standing 6'8 or more who could shoot the ball or take u off the dribble.
Wow blackadam06, I LOVE IT when you OWN these young cats about old-school ball...YOU are a definition of a TRUE basketball fan...You hit the nail on the head on ALL of your comments, that all I can say is YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!
The proof is what I saw with my own two eyes. Pippen not only defended the best perimeter offensive players he defended the post as well. When did Jordan ever have to switch defensive assignments and suddenly guard players like Barkley, Webber or LJ in the post? Pippen had that versatility to be anywhere on the floor and hold his own. MJ didn't, plain and simple. I can't remember the last time Jordan even tried taking a charge to cover a teammate's ass. Pippen did it routinely.
@Snowjob13. Scottie role was to be a facilitator. You can't have two League Leading Scorers on your team. Jordan was the scorer on that team 5 years before Scottie even arrived at that team. Jordan is the shooting guard, that's his job. Scottie wasn't always the Scottie you see now. At one point Scottie wasn't starting Brad Sellers was. Michael helped create that version of Scottie. Phil will tell you that but after awhile Scottie wanted to have what Jordan had, like anyone growing up under an Icon. Jordan's non-participation in the first 3 quarters were planned. Scottie wanted his piece of Larry and Michael let him have it but it still wasn't enough so, Jordan took over in the last quarter. Only Jordan was famous for revenge winning games. At the press conference after the game, Jordan stated that he wanted Scottie to do his thing but in the end, he had to give his input as so they wouldn't lose the game. Scottie was a great player, he became a Monster under Phil and Jordan but the role of Jordan was set before Scottie and Phil ever got there. And on many occasions, many, it was Jordan who took the weight of the team on his shoulders and got the win. Teams respected Scottie, but Players feared Jordan!
@mazaratialbum its like scottie wasnt bound to be famous. he was silent a silent individual. mj was like a superstar with an aura. scottie went to work every day like a blue collar guy to only became the best all around player in history. thats what i like the most.
Man! I can only say that if the greatest Duo Jordan & Pippen both were in good condition, they can defeat any team even without the other excellent role players such as Dennis or Kukoc!...
MJ earned his reputation because he has the highest career scoring avg, the most scoring titles, and the most NBA Finals MVPs in NBA History. He was on 9 All NBA Defensive Teams and he was Defensive Player of the year in 1988. MJ is the greatest!
From the NBA rules: "e. A player shall not be granted a timeout (regular or 20-second) if both of his feet are in the air and any part of his body has broken the vertical plane of the boundary line (including the midcourt line)." The Bulls got a shit ton of calls but such is the way of the NBA. I still find it funny though that they bring up Hubert Davis.
the players that jordan played against, like ewing, shaq, olajuwon, barkley, malone, stockton among others... Reggie Miller, Clyde Drexler, Ray Allen, Joe Dumars, among the other wing players that played during the 80's-99's were tough. so i dont know about that statement that jordan didnt play against sub-par players during his day.
Ronin that rule wasn't in effect back in 1997. That wasn't changed until a few years later so that point is irrelevant. Nice try. In 97 you could call time out in the air.
watch Pippen closely from 0:18 to 0:26; he dabs Ewing, snubs LJ, then daps Oakley; similar to Jordan refusing to shake Mourning's hand before Game 5 of the playoffs that year
The "basketball player formerly know as gran-ma-ma"! Must've been a full moon or friday the 13th with Oak shooting 3's! Great rivalry, we were lucky to have MJ back after baseball!
The bulls at their best, nothing to play for, don't think there was another team hovering around the 69 win mark for them to compete against, they just wanted to beat the Knicks in a close one so they did. As far as Jordan & Pippen defensively, Jordan's intensity surely rubbed off on Pippen in his early years. And maybe over time Pippen learned to focus his angst playing second fiddle to the great one on offense year after year into being a beast on defense because he absolutely was.
I feel the same as you. Pippen is just too good. In my opinion he was second to MJ in the league in terms of the best player for all those years since the championship years.. and then when Michael jordan left, Scottie was the best in my opinion. Others were miles away. If anyone says anything bad about Pip, just like MJ, i disagree.. Pip played possessed like MJ..
I rememba this year when Pippen and LJ got into it. Basically LJ was mad cause Pippen told da media that Anthony Mason who LJ was traded for, brought more to da team and da rest is history. lol
1:59 I wish I could have heard that conversation lol.Whatever Larry Johnson said set Pippen off. Hindsight is 20/20. LJ should have kept his mouth shut.
No, that has nothing to do with it. Scottie was underpaid, but Larry Johnson was saying that the Bulls were basically Jordan and Scottie was just along for the ride. That he didn't matter. That's why he made it a point to embarrass him.
@mazaratialbum You talk about Michael like he was a media creation! Michael led the league in steals 3 times, Defensive Player of the Year, Scottie was on that team when Michael did that, led the league in scoring 6 years straight and 10 times all together Scottie was on the team when Michael did that. It was suppose to be Knicks vs Bulls in 97.
