Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater was The Rev's favourite drummer. He stood in for The Rev after he passed away. Neil Peart said The Rev was amazing when he saw A7X support Metallica. High praise indeed. RIP to both.
Oh word? I didn’t even know that!
I heard Mike and Avenged had a falling out
@@thecentralscrutinizer5730 In the end they did. He went back to Dream Theater and Avenged moved on. But he was on this album and the first tour of it.
I was fortunate enough to see Mike play with them after The Rev passed.
@@AntonioMartinez-dc8dx and we lost Taylor Hawkins too😭😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔
The Rev had recorded a few demos for this album but not this song. As a kid, his favorite drummer was Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. They asked Mike to fill in and record the album. He used the Revs demos wherever he could as a basis for the song and just added a little of his own flair. Rip The Rev
This song gets you in the feels man, I never got the chance to the see the Rev live but this song always hits different when they play it
And also, I don’t remember which songs Rev recorded drum tracks for before he passed, but any drums on this album that he didn’t do, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater did. Fun fact about that is, Mike was Rev’s biggest influence and fave drummer.
Great reaction! This song is 100% a tribute to The Rev. You should check out 'Fiction' from this album. It's the last song The Rev wrote before he passed away.
Fiction is instant tears.
Rumor has it he walked in and said "I'm done"; although I know it was an accidental death, let's call it prophetic.
I remember watching the premiere of this song online and bawling my eyes out. This is such a powerful song because at the time it was dedicated to Jimmy “Rev” Sullivan who of course passed away. Anyone who has ever suffered any loss of somebody they hold dear in their hearts, this will hit you every time.
I was honored to see the band with Jimmy and then several times without Jimmy, they definitely lost a major part of their dynamic. However they are still an excellent group of musicians and I love this band, they were never the same without Jimmy TBH
RIP JIMMY 🌹🌹 god we miss you man
This song always makes me think of my father who passed way too early from cancer. RIP Dad.
Exactly same thing here. Stay strong
Wish you were able to play the video. The official one makes me bawl every time.😂 I’m sure it’s been said already but just in case, this song was originally written by Sinister Gates(guitarist) for his grandfather who passed then the Rev passed so the song was completed for the Rev. Great reaction! R.I.P. Rev
We did but they blocked it. Your a Patreon member and the full video is there
@@Hollywood6IX oh, I immediately went and watched the video after cause that’s just me. Just meant for those who haven’t watched that video 1,000x like me.😂 I’ll go watch it again there, too. Slow day on UA-cam anyway. Thanks!!!
@@AmberPearcy Corey Taylor Snuff live too, every time.
Man this is a tearjerker of a song, especially for those of us who lost a loved one (my mom). You guys should check out "Natural Born Killer" or "Save Me" from this same album.
"Natural Born Killer" is an insanely high energy song, and "Save Me" is 10 minute progressive masterpiece.
It's been a while since I've listened to some Avenged Sevenfold so thank you to whoever requested this song, great reaction as usual guys! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
RIP Mom 🙏🙌❤ RIP Jimmy "Thr Rev" Sullivan 🙏🙌🤘🤘
RIP your mum bro
Save me is a goddamn masterpiece
For sure. This song used to invoke tears sometimes just thinking about The Rev. But after my brother committed suicide last yr this song just absolutely wrecks me
@@takeshikovacs7629 I'm sorry for your loss brother, I know that pain. My mom passed away in January of 2018, that was the worst day and year of my life. The pain never goes away, but it gets easier as time passes. My condolences brother. 🙏🤝🤜🤛
@@bighomiestevethemetalhead8131 thanks bro. U too. And I also agree, Save Me is a fuckin masterpiece. I loved that song even before that happened... now, just like with a bunch of songs on that album.. it definitely hits different and will get me a bit choked up. For sure worth a listen🤟🤘✌️
First, the one song you were singing IS The Offspring, song called Gone Away.
Second, the Stone Temple Pilots song you’re referring to is probably Creep.
And lastly, this song was written by guitarist Syn Gates as a tribute to Jimmy “the Rev” Sullivan, their original drummer who passed away at the end of 2009.
@@trumphatesyou ha, they did cover it. Their cover must have been bad because I forgot all about it lol.
This entire damn album is a masterpiece.
This one always gets me emotional, especially with the video showing how close they all were. One of their best songs!
This song is out of this world , you can feel every word and just wow😩
Awesome song guys, more avenged sevenfold please. AFTERLIFE is 🔥🔥🔥
KEEP ON ROCKING DUDES 🤟🤟🤟🤟
R.i.p The Rev! One of favorite bands! Keep on the AV7F!!
These animal clip are great
Awesome song. Makes me think about my best friend who died of cancer in 2021. RIP Brandon williams Rip the rev
The Rev wrote the demos for this album, mike portnoy finished them and toured for the rest of the year until 2011. This song was originally for Synster Gates’ grandfather and. The drummer for Avenged Sevenfold is Brooks Wackerman and he is a beast.
Awesome reaction. A7X has a great and unique catalog. They change up their sound every album. They are incredibly talented guys. Keep up the great work! Volbeat, Shotgun Blues, please react to this!
The song lyrics ‘and it feels like, it feels like heavens so far away’ is lyrics from five finger death punch
RIP to the Rev, this song is about their drummer who died. Music video shows clips of their time growing, starting a band, and acheiving success together. Highly reccomend watching that
This was posted one day after my best friend of over 20 years birthday, she shared a birthday with the lead singer. She passed away three years ago. While my favorite band is Tool, our favorite band between the two of us was A7X. The timing of this is eerie, but thank you guys for covering it. This was always one of my favorite songs by them. I even managed to get a hand written copy of the lyrics to it done by Matt Shadows through a DJ I was dating from the local metal station after an A7X show we took my best friend to. I never, ever thought I would be mourning her loss as I heard this song or looked at those lyrics on my wall. RIP Chanti.
If you guys want another example of a great "simple yet awesome" Avenged Sevenfold song, check out Gunslinger from their self titled album. It's more of a vocal solo than guitar solo, but the bridge of that song always gave me goosebumps. Can't explain why, but I would always rewind that part and play it again!!!
You can't spell forever without REV.
Gone way to soon.
R.I.P REV
Rest in peace, Mr. Sullivan. 😢🙏
R.i.P Jimmy' TheRev 'SulliVan 😢

🙏 Next : A7X Afterlife LiveLBC 🙏
Anybody that compared Five Finger Death Punch to Avenged Sevenfold is out of their damn minds. The Rev wrote all the drums and some of the lyrics for the album before he died, but he didn't lay down any of the tracks, so they got Mike Portnoy, his favorite drummer, to play the tracks and tour with them.
I remember this live on Mexico city at 2014 I sing cried and huged with a total stranger while listening to this song
Synyster Gates is the stage name for the lead guitarist that you like. He was voted one of the 30 greatest shredders of all time and one of the 50 world's fastest. He originally wrote "so far away" as a tribute to his grandfather but when the Rev died, he re-wrote the song to be about him. When the Rev passed away, Ii ruled out foul play but the toxicology showed an overdose. I will leave that part up to people to find the specifics themself. Lastly, this song/album was released with the album Nightmare in 2010, the Rev passed away in 2009, however, there are some posthumous contributions.
I got to see them back in 2018 and it was awesome. It also turned out to be a bad night. Halfway through their set me and my buddy were crowd surfing and I made it to the front but noticed he didn’t make it. Come to find out some guys got pissy about crowd surfers and he just so happen to cross over them so they tossed him in the air. When he come down he come down right at the edge of the mosh pit and no one caught him. He landed on the back on his head/neck. They stopped the show so the ambulance could drive through the crowd which had to part like the Red Sea. He told me later how everything went white. He was disabled but he did have surgery on the front and back of his neck and got screws and metal in his neck. He never got back to 100% but he is able to walk and do many other things still. It messed up his nerves. He says rain feels like a bunch of knives jabbing him. We are lucky he is alive. If he went crowd surfing first and I went second that would have been me. Idk if I could have been as strong as he has been.
Morning! Man such a good song, heavy but good! I watched the music video and it was Kool to see them all clowning around and playing together. But sad knowing they lost someone so dear to them. Thanks guys❤️
9:33 .
...the respect... "ill tell you later.". Subtle but beautiful!
Been a Sevenfold fan since 2005, had a Deathbat tattoo since 2008, and this song just breaks my heart. I miss The Rev, R.I.P man.
Crazy how a few gutair notes will hit your soul more than a million notes at once
This is the first time I've heard this song since my mom passed in June, and damn. This song just hits so different now. RIP Momma. RIP Rev. ♥
The song is Gone Away by The Offspring.
I had the privilege of seeing the tour in 2009 before Rev died...R.I.P. Rev. A7X....I still have my ticket stub. 😰
I believe this song is 100% about The Rev, it may not have been in the beginning as he was here while the song was recorded, much like Snuff by Slipknot being about Paul, after they both left I believe the rest of the bands made that decision to basically dedicate these songs to them
A tune that does have tracks from a member that had passed away is HELLYEAH's cover of "I don't Care Anymore". It has Dimebag's guitar track on this and was produced after he had passed away
100% great reaction and an excellent tribute to Rev. yall been missing out though. Arch Enemy been dropping new music. Handshake will hell dropped last month or month before and in the eye of the storm last week.
🥁😢🎸😢🥁 I thought I was safe cuz I couldn't see the video; I was wrong. Damn it. Sad start to the week, but a great song & reaction nonetheless. P.L.U.R.R. & hugs from ATX!
Ok ok I see y’all driving back into some A7X
If your looking for a heavier song by them, check out Desecrate through Reverence. That song is smackin 😉
That whole album smacks as well. Definitely one of my favorites.
smokey on it
I love this song and I am happy that you guys reacted to it but can you guys react to more Linkin Park?
I've heard a lot of sad songs but honestly, I think this and "fiction" are 2 of the saddest. Just to know how much Jimmy meant to them for all those years and how he knew what his life would end up like is just so painful to hear.
I play this song every years on my good friends birthday after he passed away 😪 😢 💔
Growing up, this was my favorite band, and the one that introduced me to hard rock and metal.
When I heard about his passing, I thought it was a cruel joke, since in a horrible coincidence, it was the day my country celebrates something similar to April's Fools. When I found it was real, I was devastated. The Rev inspired me to take drum classes and play em.
The most beautiful, in a sadness kinda way, is that this song applies to any of our loved ones passing. It's raw. It's emotional. It's hopeful in some ways.
The Reverend Tholomew Plague might be gone, but his legacy continues to this day.
I seen smokes jaw drop half way through. He figured it out.
I believe the band said that this song was added after the revs passing and was written by the guitarist. Also I went with my brother to a show in 2018 and they told a few funny stories about the rev before a video package played leading into the song. So it's about him.
Yes!!!! A7X is great!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
This song was originally written by Synyster Gates and his dad for his grandad after he passed then when The Rev passed they dedicated it to him
Avenged Sevenfold - chapter Four
Beautiful song. First time I’ve heard it.
You're right Smokey about The Offspring except that song is "Gone Away" which is a beautifully sad song.
Mike Portnoy is definitely the drummer on this song as he filled in but A7X hired Arin Ilejay but from 2015 to present has been Brooks Wackerman who was with Bad Religion! 🤘🏼🥁🤘🏼
RIP REV 😢🤘🔥
One my favorites fron A7X R.I.P Rev
You guys need to check out a band called The Warning if you haven't already. React to the songs "Choke", "Money", "Error, just to name a few of their tunes

Avenged Sevenfold Live in LBC 🔥
No way. I'm the first one to get to talk some trash. What up homies ? I'm tipping my 40 to ya at 5 in the morning. My 40 oz of coffee that is. I have a request. Running Wild is the band They are from Germany. Pirate heavy metal at it's finest. My jam is Tortuga Bay. It's like Iron Maiden and Megadeth had a baby. Get the lyrics ready because their english ain't the best. Greetings from New Orleans, LA. Who dat baby ? Geaux Saints
Why Tortuga Bay when they have so many bangers on the album Death or Glory ? I love to eat turtles. 7 Different flavors of meat. Really any song is killer on this album. Riding the Storm, Running Blood, Evilution, Highland Glory (instrumental), Bad to the Bone, The Battle of Waterloo or the title track Death or Glory just name a few. Y'all really don't have to play my request because some people have delicate ears but y'all might want to check em out I your free time. We love pirates in the big easy. If it wasn't for Jean Lafitte we would have lost the Battle of New Orleans and the British would have been able to sail up the Mississippi River. I can tell you the rest of the story after I get home from work. Time to go fix some air conditioners. It is hot and humid in the deep south this time of year. C'ya later.
Damn. Should not have done that edit. Still love y'all's channel. I'll still finish that history lesson after while.
Cheers brother

You guys should seriously dive into the Red Dirt metal genre, and check out the band Texas Hippie Coalition.
Start with one of their early hits....... called Pissed Off and Mad About It.
You'll definitely get the hooks set in you, and you'll end up testing positive for THC !!!
Y'all should do a reaction video to Badflower - Ghost
