    Mine (2005 Super V8 LWB) has done 220k mls now and it is still going very strong. Not a creak, rattle, or any other failure to be expected. I even bring it to car shows where people can hardly believe the mileage. These are truly remarkable cars and I just love them.

    I can feel how he's attached to this car. That's something a guy told me a few years ago: Jag owners are very attached to their car. I have my XJ40 for 4 years now and thefirst owner had it for 26 years.

    I adore my X350. It’s such a lovely place to be when driving, effortlessly whafting around surrounded by leather and wood while the 3.0 engine quietly hums a pleasant tune under the bonnet. The insanity of modern Britain may go on outside but I don’t care, I’m in the land of Terry Thomas, James Robertson Justice and Kenneth Horne. Brilliant car.

      Very well put! Your excellent metaphor resonated with me also! I love taking mine down to Brisbane a couple of times a year, wonderful place to be when it's Stinkin hot outside and full on traffic madness!! No problemo! Some lovely jazz piano music and icy cold aircon nurtures and insulates you from the craziness outside 😅❤😂 Oh and people are unusually courteous I find! Like you've got the royal standard flying! 😂 I kid you not! It's weird! but wonderful ❤😂

      @@setter501 Im genuinely surprised at the reaction people have to my XJ, I didn’t think many people would even notice it but I’ve had several compliments from neighbours and people I’ve never met before, even young women. Other XJ drivers wave at me and I wave back, it’s like I’ve joined a friendly little club without realising it. Enjoy your driving, cheers from England!

    😭😭😭 Please find her a good home! "Parting is such sweet sorrow" It would be heart braking for me to have to part with my 03 4.2 😭 i hope i never have to! It would be almost on a par with losing one of my beloved dogs!, she is in beautiful BRG i wish i could post a photo here, Thankyou for the Excellent video and for saving and restoring that beautiful example, ive had mine for almost 5 years she has done 137000 Kilometres (90000 when i bought her in Rockhampton Queensland Australia for 25000 Australian Dollars (roughly 12000 quid) an absolute bargain! I drove her home to Cairns (12 hrs straight through) it was just an absolute delight of a trip! A year later i drove her from Cairns to Brisbane (1600+ kilometres with one over night stop half way) she didnt miss a beat! and what a pleasure in the heavy Brisbane traffic! The weather was really starting to warm up 30+ degree days with the sun beating down! Yet inside an air of cool absolute calm and some lovely jazz piano 🎹 on the stereo! 🤣 I found people very respectful and courteous! Stopping to let me out at intersections and slowing to let me change lanes! (you don't normally get that in the big cities here!🤣ive now done that trip to see my growd up kids a few times! (Going again in September!) Perfect vehicle for the trip and hot city driving! 😅she still is like a brand newie! I think the X35O is one of the best Jags ever but that is my own personal opinion, They are indeed a magnificent beast! Just beautiful! Oh and BTW pretty bloody good gas mileage too! Many thanks again Ian! 👍🇳🇿

    After 4 years in Asia returning to live and work in France, I needed a big 5 seat car for the family. It needed to be in a limited budget, comfortable (weekly commute of 800km for 3 months) and interesting. I spotted a 2007 XJ 2.7D with high mileage and nice spec at a local garage.
    It was my 1st ever jag (having owned countless BMWs) and proved to be a wonderful hush quiet cruiser on the autoroutes, nimble on the winding country lanes around Toulouse and surprisingly sprightly for a diesel, whilst sounding not too bad at all.
    It also put on big smiles of nodding approval from everyone and anyone. Kids would ask about the car, dads would admire the elegance as they stood next to their new Renault Capture.
    It never missed a beat for 3 months solid and then out of the blue it developed a serious electrical issue. The full dashboard xmas lights.
    Diagnostics specialists and jaguar dealers haven’t been able to resolve it so far. Changed ecu under the gear selector (faulty electrical handbrake), changed battery, changed alternator, changed all 4 abs sensors, now we’re going through all connections.
    I’m staying faithful to the old girl but she’s really trying ny patience!!
    In the meantime I bought a 2011 Mercedes GL 450, with the lovely 4.7 V8 and proper adult size 7 seats. The kids and wife enjoy the merc for its size and comfort, but my boys keep asking when the jag will be back, that’s the car they really love.
    Anyone have experience with X350 electrical fixes, I’m open to suggestions!!
    I’m thinking of taking it on a trailer to the UK where I may find better specialists.

    I have a 2006 XJ8 4.2 VDP LWB here in the US. The HID headlights went out shortly after buying the car, the LH was just a bulb, kind of a pain to replace but the RH required a new ballast, fortunately not expensive, $48 delivered including a new bulb. A real pita to replace, remove the bumper cover, the grill etc. Right after I did the job I took it to the car wash, the high pressure wash shorted out the new unit and I have to do it all over again. Now the lights are on even when they are switched off while driving. Other than that though it's a great car, everything else works very well, raised by the fact that it had a conversion to coil-overs before I bought it.

    • @michaelbacon561
      @michaelbacon561 10 днів тому

      Yes I noticed that - Jaguar seem to have had a problem with headlinings for years, so much so that there is at least a couple of companies that specialise in replacement ones! All is not lost though - apparently the headlinings can be replaced without disturbing the glass.

      And yet if jaguar hadn't moved on then not only, in you're opinion, the last of the real jags, it would of been the last jaguar. Ian callum hated the 350 and is responsible for it's demise. He persuaded Ford (owners at the time) to go with the 351. I've owned a 350 and currently own a 351 and have to say that the power, technology, comfort and economy puts the the 350 in the same league as a
      Model t. Looks however......... now that's a different conversation.

    Jaguar's swansong and what a beauty it is. The XJ had been around for how long? since 1968? and this was its last true hurrah. Callum's design that followed may've been a better product but it deviated too far from the original design imho.
    If we were honest; this is all the car we'd ever need. If we were lucky (like my brother... bastard!) we'd have the LWB Super V8 version. But he also had the V6 before and that was a fine place to be sat in too...

    I've got just over 202k miles on my 2006 XJ8L. It is certainty no show car but it still drives great and is very reliable. I've replaced one air strut with a used OEM, the compressor with an aftermarket, and the ASM module. Rides like new again. I also had to do all the usual pads, discs, rear calipers, perished drop link ends, tie rod ends, and bushings. I've had this one about a year now. My 2007 XK that I've had for 12 years has done just over 134k miles and is definitely the best car I've ever owned. Jaguars of this era are amazing if maintained and driven.

    2:20 Why do say the Audi A8 used only Aluminium Panels?
    It was an all Aluminium construction and came out in 1994.
    Did the then new in automotive large scale manufacturing mix of adhesive bonding and rivet joinery trip you up?
    Edit: Hope it goes to a good home!

    This looks an exceptional example, especially in that colour which is pretty rare. I seem to recall the air conditioning didn't work on this car a few years back, was this one of the jobs that was attended to or does it still need doing? Sometimes a regas works, other times a whole new condenser is needed.

    Ive had four X350s, two V6s and two V8s and the 4.2 V8 was by far the best of the bunch! Oh and it also had 285k miles on the clock before the gearbox failed, but strangely, it drove far better than the lower mileage x350s I had - proof that Jags like to be used!

  • @E7DMG

    The 4.2 engine in the X350 (and RR Sports) never suffered from the Nikasil issue. That was the 3.2/ 4.0 V8 of the first couple of years production of the X308's. Just saying!

    The X350 XJ was technically an improvement over its X300 and 308 forebears. The exterior and interior unfortunately lost too much of the svelte looks, charm and magic however. A reheat too far? Although not a direct replacement, the subsequent XF saloon -especially with the facelifted slimmer headlights, did recapture the well proportioned beautifully finished Jaguar magic again...

    • @HJ-vs7lf
      @HJ-vs7lf 12 днів тому +2

      I agree that the XF is great, although they should have put the facelift headlights on it staight away. They had them on the concept car already. I don't think the x350 is an ugly car, given the regulations it had to conform to at the time. Aluminium structure directly results in thicker pilars as well, which work less with classic lines than on a modern design. I really don't think they could have improved the classic Jaguar lines in a modern car any better. It does need 19 or 20 inch wheels to fix the proportions. When I bought mine, it had standard 18 on it. With custom 19 Jaguar wheels, it looks like a Hotwheels version of a classic Jag. I love the look of an X358 on Callisto wheels.
      Although I think they could have marketed it way better. They advertised it as the new version of the classic XJ. Only when I was deciding whether to buy an X350 or x308, I discovered how cutting edge the technology of the x350 was compared to the x308 and german rivals. They should have emphasised its modern internals way more. They were known as a grandfathers car. A halo car as an image boost for the brand at an earlier time, like 2004-2005 would have been great as well.

      @1972jjb 12 днів тому

      @@alexandrecouture2462 Yes the technical underpinnings were new -it was technically an improvement as I said. My point remains; the styling and interior design were a reheat. I think to most people, the execution of the styling and interior design were the biggest trump card a Jaguar should have over the less visually appealing competition. I'm up against some die hard X350 owners here, blinded by love for their visually more compromised baby ..and (understandably) with other criteria beyond absolute looks!

    • @1972jjb
      @1972jjb 11 днів тому

      @@ivanfernyhough3851 I appreciate your point regarding the XE, 'new' XJ and latest XF... However it's a subtle point regarding the lessening visual appeal of the XJ350 compared to the XJ300/308. It's in the detailing, the balance of clear straight lines and defined geometric curves. The XJ350 interior became too blobby, Ford plastic 'buttony' and a little kitsch. It lost that low slung intimacy a little. The exterior, although still more attractive than most rivals, had a grille slightly too narrow and high, plus the body was less well defined around the C pillar..
      Anyway, it's like arguing about seasoning choices with a jolly geezer who just loves chunky chips n' ketchup (and if you're honest, doesn't see the point bothering with punctuation). They just want to binge out; they love chips full stop and a subtle flavouring case is a bit wasted on them.
