Let's Customize Marvel Legends Morph by Removing Cel Shading Paint with Nail Polish Remover!

- I'm not collecting the Hasbro Marvel Legends Animated X-Men line but for some reason I wanted a Morph in my Jim Lee X-Men display, so I grabbed one when Disney Shop had free shipping. Plus I get a discount for being an Unlimited member. In order to fit in with my other figures I decided to remove the cel shading with a bit of nail polish remover. I haven't done that in a while so this was a refresher. And yes, I nicked the belt buckle a bit, had to repaint that.

That new Cyclops is sweating bullets right now… but it’s okay, I’ll have paper towels handy :)
Lol ! I plan on doing the same thing with both figures, but I'll use Qtips instead of the paper towel
Protip: Q-tip
lol GG Robo!
Also you could just use 92% Rubbing Alcohol on it. It removed the paint without damaging the plastic.
Thanks for the info👍🏾
You can also dilute the nail polish remover with isopropyl alcohol in a 50:50 solution so it won't damage the plastic
@@bored_boarI think using g nail polish remover is silly when it has acetone in it. Just use something less destructive.
@@therealunclassified It's not destructive though, especially if it's just for removing some decal/paint detail off your figure, given how diluted the acetone is. I've been customizing for years and diluted nail polish remover has yet to fail me.
@@bored_boar listen I been customizing for years as well but to better off who can piss further, I'm actually in the trades 20 plus years and work with solubles lol. If it will melt plastic before your eyes it's pretty much text book definition of destructive lol. If it wasn't you'd be able to do what this guy told you not to do and wipe it off fast and wash with water trying to stop the break down.
OH HELL YEAH! IT'S WRAP NOW! Say goodbye, cell shading. Thank you, FWOOSH!🙌🏿
THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, MORPH!
I Love these little paint related vids, keep it up and I might just get the confidence to do some of them
Robo is the best! Love this!!!! Always helping the collector community, this is why we always catch the Fwoosh!!!
I've got that Cyclops pre-ordered so this newfound knowledge may come in handy!
Oh hell yes!!! Thank you for this! I’m gonna go buy Morph now!!
You have literally wiped away the sole reason I was not into these figures. Will be buying a few now. Thank you sir.
Lacquer thinner works good too.
Love these quickie tutorials. Keep em coming. Thanks n
Thanks for this Robo, now I might have try to get Morph.
Definitely going to do this when I get mine ordered!
The cell shading is meant to pop like the cartoons but the subtle bits thats left over after the cleaning kinda reminds of the toybiz shading. Looks cool and adds some definition without being too in your face imo.
Oh, yeah, I do dig some shading, just not the blatant heavy cartoon look.
Use cotton wool ear buds for more accurate application, just a thought. Keep kickin arse chum!
I just learned a bunch thanks for the share!
I loved watching the old 1987 xmen series it was an amazing show.😊
Same I like these figures but hate the cell shading
Outstanding bro
Fantastic tip! I’ll have to try this out
Im one of the very few I assuming that like the shading on some of these figures especially wolverine this also looks good either way imo
Robo sent me here to comment, "Q-Tip" 😂
BANNED!
@@TheFwoosh 🤣 You knew when you said it in the weekly. That people would come over and do it.
Haha, yeah, you know I love it.
Thank you for the tip Fwoosh. Trying to make custom red dead redemption two figures and I’m wanting to know how to paint, remove and sculpt.
Without the cell shading these look like the figures we got from toy biz back in the day 🤩. This was an excellent educational video and I hope the UA-cam algorithm promotes this!
Of all the Q-Tips!
The paper towel might actually work better with acetone for more control.
I will try your method on my next Custom.
I used a Q-Tip with acetone on the Black Widow with Motorcycle to remove the painted on belt and the colors all smeared and melted into her...
I bet the Q-Tip soaked in too much acetone 😵
The fix was to fully repaint and seal.
It does look cool with that bit of gloss now so it the end it became a happy accident with days of extra work.
me after just getting one of the uncanny x men 3 packs and just putting the morph head on the gambit and changing his arms as well as giving him th slogan jacket: 🗿
Do it with spidey animated series
🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for this. I was thinking what to do.
Added to cart. Big ass bottle of nail polish remover. Thanks
Thanks, this convinced me to buy the new Cyclops. (Responsible collecting strikes again)! LOL😅
Pointed craft cotton swabs will help with the paint in the crevices
"Morph was the only one who could make me laugh"
Do cyclopse when you get him! I didn’t know about this trick…
Nice. I’d have left the pecks shaded though. that’s accurate animation/quality pa
huge difference, much better
Can't wait too do this with the new symbiote spidey
I think there's a lot more paint to that Spider-Man, if you try to remove the cel shading you're also going to take off a lot of costume detail.
@@TheFwoosh that's true sire, maybe I'll test it out on the feet or something. Looks like the symbiote spidey is on the renew your vows spidey bod hopefully he's chunky and intimidating
Thanks for sharing this info Robo.
Please do Storm! 🤩🤩🤩
Robo will the casting cave morph head fit on that body?
Yup, that's the cherry on top.
haha this is awesome, I'm literally gonna try this when I get him. I wonder what hasbro thinks
Haha ! I know out of sight out of mind. Good one
I mean if you put a wash on it after it may hid the imperfections great tutorial Fwoosh
Would rubbing alcohol work? Would alcohol pose less risk of eating away at the plastic?
Do it with a cotton bud for better control of what you're doing and better reach too 🙂
Yeah, this is happening with that new cyclops for sure.
Good job but why the cell shade is what makes it look cool and stand out not like the same boring color as scheme
robos out here removing cel shading, and im here repainting every marvel legends figure to look as close to the cartoon xmen show as i can
Haha, we're just doing what makes us happy, nothing wrong with that!
Amazing
@0:49 ROBO! PULL BACK!!
I was wondering how successful this would be. Instantly looks better.
Fantastic! Does this work with the other figures in the line?
Hey Robo, instead of using nail polish remover and risking damaging your figure how about trying one of those Mr. clean eraser pads. I use them all the time and I doesn't damage the plastic.
I personally like the cell shading and I dont get why people want to get rid of it but I guess it's just a preference thing
It totally is a preference thing. Like, I'm not going to question or get mad because you do like it, right?
Why does he look like Saul Goodman in the box art lol?
Re thinking the whole line now. (Use a cotton swab guys)
A q-tip would have been better. You removed a lot of paint from the x of the belt
if you use a Q Tip you'll have more control
Not in my experience, plus I end up with a pile of q-tips.
@@TheFwoosh cool 😎
Why do they “cel shade” some of their figures? Tried researching it online but got nothing. To make it more comic book accurate?
To make it look like the animated series
I didn’t notice a difference… I wish you would’ve had both of them side-by-side to compare
Nice
That’s the same nail polish remover I use for all my customs
Ooh. This is surprisingly simple. Might have to order me a second of Morph and Cyclops...
hasbro cel shading sucks!! Thanks for the video bro.
I might rethink this line and get them and clean off that stupid cell shading or just wait for them to be released on vintage cards.
Does anyone like the cell shading? Cuz I definitely don't and it doesn't seem like anyone else does
Why don't you use the pointed q tips?
now do wolverine and storm 😭
I have Wolverine and Storms though, haha!
Nice. Now that I know this works I'll nab that Cyclops and fix him.
Could you also use a q tip?
work with every brand of nail polish remover? my zombie hunter spidey NEED it
I could show you what i'm doing to Syrin 😅 i'm turning her into Samus Aran from Metroid. 😁
Use a magic eraser, you won’t have to worry about it eating the plastic and it takes the paint off a lot faster
I've done that, takes twice as long, is a pain in the tiny crevices, and changes the finish. I prefer this.
I heard of Testors ELO Paint and Decal remover , is that the same , I don’t have nail polish remover and it’s strong
It’s all paint thinner.
I had a customer buying a can of paint thinner, saying she only needed a little bit for a small area. I reminded her that nail polish remover was the same thing, did she have any at home? “Yes, actually?” Yup, it’s the same thing. “Lost” that sale. 😂
Robo does know.
Damn I didn't know people didn't like the cel shading that much
Personally I'm just going to head swap him to look like a Mutant I created in 1964 that doesn't exist in Marvel. But the X-Men would be happy to have him as he's a very Strong Mutant; a 4.5 Level combined Physical and Psionic.
Class 65 strength
Skin Equal to 8" Steel
Class 200 Telekinesis, Psychokinesis, Pyrokinisis, Psionic Combat
Drawback; Flies like the Greatest American Hero
Skills: Daredevil class Martial Artist, Olympic Level Acrobat and Gymnast, Top LAPD Detective even without Powers, Speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, and Spanish naturally, and 40 other languages learned psioniclly. Taught by his Mentor as a concentration exercise that kept him from going insane when he developed Telepathy.
Morph is made to be a Custom, may buy a second to turn into a fudged Doug Ramsey just like I got a Magma out of a 4th Dani Moonstar.
Idk how Logan will feel about this.
How does 90% Isopropyl Alcohol fair on Legends paint apps? I've used it on transformers and work okay, but not on legends yet.
I removed the lipstick from my Morph. I am not too crazy about the lipstick on the recent male characters, lol.
Do Spider-Man next so I can see it done right before I try 😊
What’s wrong with cell shading.
Just not my thing and doesn't match any of my other figures.
@@TheFwoosh you don’t realize how much it means to me that you responded to my comment. I’ve been watching you for like 3-4 years. I love watching your customs and reviews and if I need new action figure releases I come straight to you. You’re just an amazing UA-camr who’s made a big impact on me. So thank you
its that easy?
Hasbro SWAT are closing in.
COME AND GET ME BOYS!
Thanks Robo! Now that you've done this custom, Hasbro is bound to announce a new regular version of Morph any days now.
Q tips!!!
Don't like 'em!
@@TheFwoosh awwww , they aren't flocked...
I think that it looks good with the shading, i dont gaf
You gave enough of a fuck to comment. Twice. Haha
@@TheFwoosh i mean in don't gaf about the shading
Oooooooohhhh. Again, that's cool. I didn't like it.
Has anyone done this to a animated spider man figure yet? If so how does it look?
Looked better before
Naw, but that's cool. I'll do me. You do you.
not sure if you know but qtips might work better for ya
Why you....
I got a question so what the Midas Shadow from fortnite action figure why did you didn't made a UA-cam video of it
Does the brand of nail polish matter
Noooo que haces
Try q-tips next time
Yeah, I've done that too, I like paper towels better, I can get it down small and control the amount of remover easier, especially up close to things I don't want to remove.
Qtips would work better under the straps and along grooves where it’s harder to get in there with a paper towel. Might even help better where you have paint along the shelf you don’t want removed?
Please don't do this please use 90% isopropyl alcohol

Does the figure lose its value....
Only if you ever plan on selling it off and even then probably not by much

Bro what’s the point of doing this? It looks better with the shading
Not to me, that's why I did it. For me. You going to keep making separate comments?
It's not that serious just leave it as is, I'm sure they'll release a regular on retro card soo enough.... 😒
But now I don't have to buy a future release since I have this. Totally agree....it's not that serious.
First! And very helpful!
