The library guide seems like a kind person.

I found your programs very educational. I've only seen North Korea from Dandong, across the Yalu River. Of course I did not have a lovely guide to show me the interior parts of the country. Chi Chi
I think by typing "Chi Chi" you meant to say "Thanks" in chinese : 谢谢.
If you want to type it using the latin alphabet, you'll be closer by typing "xièxiè" or "xiexie".

I am now a new fan of this series of documentary's. It's really cutting edge how it's done. I must say an excellent job was done. And thank you for the English subtitles. Did anyone notice how the guides seemed to show absolutely no interest when they were explaining what the southernmost city in China was when they first went into the library? And did anyone notice how strange it was at the end when the librarian lady couldn't answer a simple question about how long China has been in existence? She said she was only a philosophy master and she would have to get someone from another department to help her answer that question. It seemed strange she couldn't just answer it. Overall, very well done! I will be watching them all 👍
i know your comment is 4 months old and someone can correct me if im wrong since my korean isn't near perfect, but in regards to not answering the simple question about how long china has been in existence, i don't believe the translator actually asked that specific question, she basically just asked about historical questions in general. cos translating especially in real time, you don't always translate everything
She didn't actually ask her that, the guide just used it as an example when describing the library system, from what I gathered.
very interesting. than you

Interesting. I used to have those index cards as did our libraries. You can't hack them and they work well. However that anyone would be interested in just a library lobby etc is fascinating. The high heels were interesting too - so were they students probably not in high heels. They had white tops - uniform almost. May be it was a training day for some job where you have to wear high heels.
Or school uniforms? Most countries in the world have school uniforms.
Why is the back neck of Quilu censored ? A few places it's not censored and there's no reason.. it drives me nuts.

many people watching this series videos have a habitual prejudice that NK must be poor, dirty and full of starving people. I don't deny that NK shows only what they want to show, but when what you see conflicts what you hear of or what you believe, you comments must reflect your resistance against what you've seen.
Pyongyang is beautiful.
Imagine what it would be without the West's genocidal sanctions.
North Korea is poor; that's the fact, like or not. But I never thought North Korea was dirty. I'm not quite sure about starving people.
Yeah watch youtube videos about any North Korean defector.....there's a reason for this "prejudice", because it's true that North Korea is full of poor and starving people.
It's a tragic country. This is just a nice facade for tourists but it shows nothing about the actual horrors going on there.

Question for the Chinese people in the video...do you u understand the Chinese characters on all boards in the building and do they have the same meaning..or have they changed their meaning?
Can a Korean and a Chinese understand each other by writing chi else ideograms?
I'm not Chinese, but the writing systems of Chinese and Korean are entirely different. Korean is phonetic, Chinese is - as you said - ideograms. So, no, they can't read it. The example you are looking for is Japanese, since it shares some of the Chinese ideograms, different readings but the same meaning.

Our local village library was like that 60 years ago.
I'm in love with the skinny Korean guide. It's cute
She
All sporting their regulation haircuts.
There is no regulation of haircuts. The famous poster you know of the haircut is literal suggestions of hair styles that are trending with North Koreans. Anyone who speaks Korean can verify this. These styles are not state-mandated at all. Watch the documentary "I went to North Korea to get a haircut" which should hopefully dispel this view maybe watch the propaganda game as a side. Ironically, the only place where we see the regulation of haircut was 20th century and early 21st century South Korea and the Islamic world. Yet we do not see mentions of dystopian haircut rules in those countries by global media kabals. No such things as haircut regulations exists in the North as haircuts is not the state business and Kim Jong Un has bigger things to care about than what haircut Kim Chong Yol had at the 21st of July.
A news media in the past said Kim Jong Un forced his haircut on every male. Then proceeded an article in the next few years saying how Kim Jong Un will kill anyone who copied his haircut. Such contradictions have been made and yet you cannot see it. You are being lied to and this lie is much bigger than the one in Iraq. When will you wake up?

There are tours to Hamhung, Kaesong and many other North Korean places It's just that you are too lazy and not looking hard enough. Every tour has a set guide and a set path. In a country like North Korea where feds and NIS spies are rampant it is important to keep tourists on a tight leash. Also, if you are aqauintenced or familiar with any tour group, you would know that there has been an incident of drunk tourists causing a mess in North Korea.
