Without spoiling too much, the writer of the show was big into D&D, and thus is FANTASTIC at world creating. He also uses "gap moe" in many of his characters. It's about portraying your character's personality as opposite to what their appearance is. Some characters will look "cute" while being some of the most downright vile and evil characters you've ever seen. And some of the most evil looking characters having wholesome and good personalities. It's not all of them, but you can see this influence on many of them.
im not 100% sure on this but i read somewhere that the Overlord started because his friends couldnt play anymore cuz of real life stuff so he took their campaign and made this out of it. (not sure about the second part)
No he isn't. But his novels are appealing because it's rare to see the bad guys, actually being bad and still win. His world building is lacking and in fact very basic. Politics are absurdly simple. But again it's entertaining and this comes from an OL fan before somebody misunderstands my comment.

My favorite instance of gap moe is the clumsy kuudere, most of the time kuuderes are played as the straight man but then you see one trip over nothing and faceplant while still holding their icy expression.

Nah, it’s honestly mid. From what I’ve heard, the novel is very good, but it’s clear that the people who made the anime don’t know how to make an entertaining show. Ending season 1 with a betrayal, introducing something that could threaten Ainz, then spending half a season on some lizard romance ruining any tension or excitement we had. Then we jump to some random kingdom’s politics out of nowhere? Then season 2 ends and we still haven’t gotten ANY updates on the potential threat.

Overlord even subverted the classic hero isekai so hard all the descendants have had to double subvert to morally good-grey non-humans because Maruyama crushed the true evil isekai so thoroughly.
Anime kinda cut alot of contents and plots from the light novel, for most people that are Anime only kinda miss out alot on those small details which is what make overlord great in the first place, wouldn't say it's the best anime but yeah it's definitely one of the best in this genre Overlord made this genre cool before it was cool

I've been watching anime for a long time and Overlord easily lands a spot as one of my favorites of all time. Hence why myself and so many other people are watching your reactions to even just the openings and endings... which are just fantastic on their own, but the story is the main draw. The openings are somewhat spoilery but without context, so rewatching them after finishing the season is rewarding as well. As yes, the female character you've seen before is indeed a succubus. Good guys, bad guys... It's more complicated than that, tbh... and that's in a good way. I also feel like by using the beautiful, but still, art from the og artist for the endings they were able to devote more time and money to make the animations for the openings look so good.
Overlord took me by surprise, it has so much more depth than I was expecting, turned out to be one of my favorites. I’d say a lot of the characters aren’t necessarily good or bad (mostly grey) and that’s all I’m saying just in case you intend to watch it. Thanks for the reactions all ways!

Overlord is not your normal story anime. At first the concept looks like cliche. But the more you watch. The more you realize. There is no other show doing this (especially on fantasy genre).
The name of the song for the Season 3 OP is _'Voracity'._ It's worth looking up the lyrics. I think AmaLee has done an english cover as well...though it's nowhere near as good as the original from Myth & Roid. The series itself is a journey. It has some top notch character development, though the pacing is on the slow side until the third season. Albedo is an interesting character. I'm partial to Shalltear, personally. She has the wildest plotline. In terms of the Non-Nazarickian characters, Evileye is one of the more interesting characters. . . . . 7:43...Fucking Renner. You don't even know the half of it.
it started from a game, MC was in game as skeleton mage and hes guild had NPC's to what they created, different monsters and demons, but he fell a sleep and woke up and discovered that he and hes guild base has been transported in to alternate universe/world with humans and many other races and the guild NPC'S have become real monster and demons/sentient beings, no longer data/program, that shot version of how to sum up the beginning
the part where she says ainz looks like the grim reaper.. wait till she watches it and hears ainz "the goal of all life is death" skill can do.. also the twin dark elves.. hahaha

It's the kind of show where the world building and the story make you feel so immersed that you get taken by suprise a few time not knowing who to roots for in conflict situation.
a little bit Info about the OPs and EDs and about the bands that sing them: 1st OP is from OxT- 1st ED is from MYTH & ROID 2nd OP Oxt -2nd ED MYTH & ROID( Changed Singer) 3rd OP MYTH & ROID(same singer as 2nd OP)- 3rd ED OxT 4th OP OxT- 4th ED Mayu singer from first OP but on Solo also both bands have the same Guitar which is Tom-H@ck and as several people has said the Art from the EDs is from So-Bin which is the illustrator from the Light Novels i really Loved that you watch OP and ED in order, a lot of people watch all the OPs first and then the EDs and in this case, they dont see the change on 3rd OP and ED between the bands
Overlord is a great show with a fun twist on a familiar premise in anime but it just might have the greatest collections of Openings and Endings of all time. All 8 of them are fantastic, with not a single miss among them.
The ending artwork is from the same artist that did the illustrations for the original lightnovel. Stunning pieces, each and every one. Highly recommend you give his catalogue a look if you're interested in the style. His handle is So-Bin.
All the endings use the official artwork from the light novels, and they art in those look amazing honestly. Some of my favourite openings and endings of any anime.
Season 3 ending Silent Solitude slaps all of the intro/endings imo. There's the full song on UA-cam i recommend listening to and the lyrics get deep and will tell you or reveal to you the true meaning. There's also a english version, both give goosebumps and the reality of the lyrics hit hard.
9:23 is Princess Renner. She has a sadistic obsession with Climb (the guy in the background) who is, infact her personal guard. And lets just say... She does some extremely messed up things to control him. Definitely worth the watch, I'm just mad they're taking so long to make season 5. --- Also funny story. Albedo (the succubus) is infact innocent though not for lack of trying 💀

Overlord is great for world building and plays a lot with the idea of defiance of expectation. It's honestly an incredible ride, and there's a movie dropping this year.
Using the word "Good" to describe the Ainz Ooal Gown and his merry nation is a very strong word . I'd use protagonists if generous, main characters at worst, cause good and evil are very simplistic terms to describe the political and moral motivations of characters in Overlord. They are not saints, the human characters, in fact a good one-third to two-thirds of the human characters are evil or morally bankrupt , the human princess especially, it's just they have misfortune of going against a man who was a human from another world who's powers he gained in a video game become real as does his lich body , and all the overpowered NPC subordinates followed him to this new world he intends to conquer 😅.... Fair warning, this anime can be a little bit darker than some are used to

Overlord took me by surprise, it has so much more depth than I was expecting, turned out to be one of my favorites. I’d say a lot of the characters aren’t necessarily good or bad (mostly grey) and that’s all I’m saying just in case you intend to watch it. Thanks for the reactions all ways!

Opening 4 came outta nowhere and became my favorite opening when it originally came out. Such a fun but also fitting opening.

Ending 2 (Hydra) has my favorite sounding ending theme, but ending 3 (Silent Solitude) is my favorite ending in terms of presentation for reasons I can't begin to explain.
The girl in a victorian dress is Shalltear, a vampire, and yes, she often fight with Albedo for Lord Ainz attention.

For not getting spoilers. I am gonna say. Overlord is not your normal story anime. At first the concept looks like cliche. But the more you watch. The more you realize.
There is no other show doing this (especially on fantasy genre).

The name of the song for the Season 3 OP is _'Voracity'._ It's worth looking up the lyrics. I think AmaLee has done an english cover as well...though it's nowhere near as good as the original from Myth & Roid.
The series itself is a journey. It has some top notch character development, though the pacing is on the slow side until the third season. Albedo is an interesting character. I'm partial to Shalltear, personally. She has the wildest plotline. In terms of the Non-Nazarickian characters, Evileye is one of the more interesting characters.

it started from a game, MC was in game as skeleton mage and hes guild had NPC's to what they created, different monsters and demons, but he fell a sleep and woke up and discovered that he and hes guild base has been transported in to alternate universe/world with humans and many other races and the guild NPC'S have become real monster and demons/sentient beings, no longer data/program, that shot version of how to sum up the beginning
the part where she says ainz looks like the grim reaper..
wait till she watches it and hears ainz "the goal of all life is death" skill can do..
also the twin dark elves.. hahaha
In this story there are no black and whites... It is a large gray scale and there is a lot of emphasis on that...

It's the kind of show where the world building and the story make you feel so immersed that you get taken by suprise a few time not knowing who to roots for in conflict situation.

4th OP OxT- 4th ED Mayu singer from first OP but on Solo
also both bands have the same Guitar which is Tom-H@ck
and as several people has said the Art from the EDs is from So-Bin which is the illustrator from the Light Novels
i really Loved that you watch OP and ED in order, a lot of people watch all the OPs first and then the EDs and in this case, they dont see the change on 3rd OP and ED between the bands
Overlord is a great show with a fun twist on a familiar premise in anime but it just might have the greatest collections of Openings and Endings of all time. All 8 of them are fantastic, with not a single miss among them.

All the endings use the official artwork from the light novels, and they art in those look amazing honestly. Some of my favourite openings and endings of any anime.
12:57 don't know if it was mentioned yet, but the endings art style is done in the same way as the artwork in the light novel.
Season 3 ending Silent Solitude slaps all of the intro/endings imo. There's the full song on UA-cam i recommend listening to and the lyrics get deep and will tell you or reveal to you the true meaning. There's also a english version, both give goosebumps and the reality of the lyrics hit hard.
9:23 is Princess Renner. She has a sadistic obsession with Climb (the guy in the background) who is, infact her personal guard. And lets just say... She does some extremely messed up things to control him. Definitely worth the watch, I'm just mad they're taking so long to make season 5. --- Also funny story. Albedo (the succubus) is infact innocent though not for lack of trying 💀

Overlord is great for world building and plays a lot with the idea of defiance of expectation. It's honestly an incredible ride, and there's a movie dropping this year.

Using the word "Good" to describe the Ainz Ooal Gown and his merry nation is a very strong word .
I'd use protagonists if generous, main characters at worst, cause good and evil are very simplistic terms to describe the political and moral motivations of characters in Overlord.
They are not saints, the human characters, in fact a good one-third to two-thirds of the human characters are evil or morally bankrupt , the human princess especially, it's just they have misfortune of going against a man who was a human from another world who's powers he gained in a video game become real as does his lich body , and all the overpowered NPC subordinates followed him to this new world he intends to conquer 😅....
Fair warning, this anime can be a little bit darker than some are used to
