  • Neck pain can be helped with stretches, exercises, and other treatments. These neck exercises & stretches are easy to do, and should help provide neck pain relief. Purchase an Auvon 3-in-1 TENS, EMS & Massage Unit like the one in the video here: amzn.to/2Lww0tt (affiliate link)
    To help relieve neck pain and tightness, stretches should help loosen up the area. Neck rotation with thoracic rotation in the opposite direction, upper trap stretch, and levator scap stretch are all great ways to help relieve neck pain.
    You can also use a TENS unit while you are stretching and exercising to help decrease the pain so you can do the treatment you need to get better. The folks at Auvon, Inc. sent me their 3-in-1 TENS, EMS, and massage unit to use.
    Then you can do a neck rotation stretch with a towel. Some therapists will call these SNAGS.
    Finally, strengthening the neck or cervical muscles will help keep it strong and stable. Chin tucks and chin tucks with flexion to get the deep flexor muscles will help.

      I'm due to have major spinal corrective surgery for scoliosis in 8 weeks. Would the ten ems machine help post surgery with muscle soreness? I know I can't put it over surgery sites but all my muscles are unbalanced and post op I suspect it's going to be worse? It's never helped with my back pain but this is a whole new ball game.

    • @AskDoctorJo

      It should help as long as it's TENS and not contracting the muscles, but I would ask your surgeon just in case.

    I'm 68 and suffering from Cervicle Stenosis from a diving accident when I was 15. I have been doing a lot of your neck stretches and some of them have helped with the pain. Would the TENS unit maybe give me some added relief?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  4 роки тому

      I might. I think it would be worth trying as long as you don't have any other issues where you shouldn't use it.

    Hi dr Jo. Do you have or could you do a video on some at home tests you can do to know if you're ready to return to pivoting sports such as martial arts after a knee sprain or minor meniscus tear?
    Specifically in my case I did have ACL repair several years ago and that was successful. I took about 5 years off training my martial art (Capoeira) and when I returned a few weeks ago I sprained my knee. MRI showed no ligament tears. I have done physio for 3 weeks now and feel almost back to normal but would love to know what I can do at home to test if I'm strong enough to start easing back into training.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  4 роки тому +1

      I don't have a specific video for that. Often those tests are either done with equipment or done where you have to see your form to know if you are are doing the tests correctly (since that would be a big part of it). You said you have done physio for 3 weeks, with a physio or one your own?

      @@AskDoctorJo with a physio but I can't afford another session at this time

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  4 роки тому

      Did your physio at the time think you were getting close? Often, if you want to try to go back to a sport, just start off really slow, and only at about 20% of your max effort, then if you feel fine the next day, slowly increase the intensity by 3-5% over a few weeks.

    • @triciafranginha2.031
      @triciafranginha2.031 4 роки тому

      @@AskDoctorJo hi dr Jo. He thought I was making good progress. I'm able to do full low squats and full lunges now.
      When you say 3-5% over a few weeks do you mean each week 3-5% or is that all you should be increasing each month?
      Thank you so much for your replies as well.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  4 роки тому

      You're welcome. As long as you are not having increased pain, you can increase the intensity every other day over that time period.
