FINESSE vs BIG BAITS - Spring Bass Fishing!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Come along for a day on the water! Tim is slinging a swimbait while his buddy sticks to the spinning rod. Who's going to come out ahead? We'll see! Pay attention to where Tim focuses with the swimbaits and note the number of fish that commit to a dropshot or shaky head after refusing the big bait. Very interesting!
The Tennessee River is known for "power fishing" but make no mistake, there are a ton of fish to be caught with finesse techniques. Today the advantage went to the dropshot, shaky head and senko. Tim did manage one fish on the Magdraft and a few missed opportunities on other baits, but all in all the finesse gear was the champ.
Below you'll find links to the baits the guys used throughout the day. We've included the exact colors, as well as a few of our other favorites. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

I love they showed tim getting hung up, then asking if he's gonna break 2 off in a day. Then actually breaks it off. That's the way it goes sometimes but being able to keep your head in it and not get upset is key. I've lost jackhammers many times and how you react can affect your whole day. Once I stopped getting pissed about things like that is when I started catching more and bigger bass. To me your mindset can mean more to your success than the actual lure
Absolutely! Mindset is super important.
Man this felt like a teaser to another one of those " How to Skip" videos!!! So accurate and the amount of skips is actually awesome to watch. Can definitely see you have been doing this a while Tim!! Lol! Happy you guys had another great day out on the water!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
My dropshot/powershot weight tip:
Tie a loop knot on the loose tag for the weight, then feed the loop knot through the line tie and drop the weight through the loop opening. Now you can quick swap weights without fear of losing them, plus a loop knot will break before the palomar if you get too snagged.
Your camera captures everything
in the finest of detail. 💯
Great fishing, and thank you for your time making these videos.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Thank you for showing the snag ups too. Sometimes I think I must really suck because the youtube guys never hardly hang and break off 💰 baits😂
Most UA-cam guys would edit that out lol. These dudes are real and show the truth
@Riley McGill Thanks for the support!
Just a sidenote, I love your camera. Everything you guys do is crystal clear on my iPhone and I appreciate the quality video.
I am doing a mlf tournament in two weeks there. Gave me some good insight to what the fish are doing and water situation. As I have never fished there and a lot can change in two weeks, it gives me a starting point and an idea of what baits to bring. Perfect timing for me and great video.
Loving the vids as always! 15:25 I can't stand to see someone throw a beat up worm back in the lake, just toss it in the boat, set an example! As always not a single negative comment towards you Tim and Matt. Keep it up!
Good eye. Unfortunately that’s a super common move. I scuba dive and see TONS of soft baits sitting on the bottom. I toss mine in the bottom of my tackle box and then throw them away the next time I’m prepping to go out. It’s on those of us that love the water to take care of it..no one else is going to care.
Thanks Tim for another quality video.
Enjoyed those fish catches, I'm gonna start implementing the drop shot more, those docks can cost some money, but you have try for those big bites, on this channel y'all really do a thorough job explaining everything 👍
I think TB is in the discussion for the most informative bass fishing channel on UA-cam.
Thanks for watching Johnny!
Man. always such perfect timing on these uploads. coming into a beautiful weekend and I'm rigging up today!
Perfect!
Great video thanks showing us everything you guys were doing on the water
Thank you, Tim, and thank you, Wes!
That's Tim
@@dontnonowuno9953 Ugh; thank you. I must be watching too many of these in succession. Corrected.
Great Information as usual!
Thanks!
Another great one guys 🤙
I can’t beat the drop shot man. I try to explore more options because I get bored with it haha but if I really need to get bit, it’s the drop shot roboworm no contest right now 😁
I'm a new subscriber but I love the videos keep up the great work
I am not a great finesse fisherman but I have thrown more last week and man was it successful
Great video like always guys!
Junebug, Plum, Green Pumpkin, Red Bug, Sour Grape are about the only colors i use.
Those docks probably have crappie structures around them great video. Can’t wait to visit family out there in Tennessee this summer. I’m Going to fish that lake for sure. How much of a change in set up with your rod and reels or is it the same set up as fishing clear lake or is there big difference I know the water is more stained back there then California I live on Shasta lake and it’s clear like a swimming pool. I’m curious for my trip to Tennessee. Even how you guys are doing since you moved there and what you guys think of the state and people that would be great addition to your videos unless I missed a video of you guys talking about it already.
Been having bad luck fishing this last month... Pre spawn was great fishing though!
Man I'm glad I'm not the only one I was killing it the last 2 - 3 months. Skunked this month. But we have had alot of weather bouncing around and rain
@@davidshowslsu what part of the country? I’m in North Louisiana. I’ve been out 5 times in the last month and haven’t caught a single bass. My son has caught some bream and perch on his beetle spin but we can’t seem to find the bass.
@@Sippincoffe ...I'm in middle-west Georgia
@@Cosigner22 yea so your getting all this crazy weather to. We’ve had major storms every week.
Great video
LETS GO BABY PRE WORK BASSIN
It’s slammer time 😂
How do you like St. Croix swimbait rod that you were using? Another great video of fishing
Morning Guys. I gotta get to chick. It's 1 of the few stretches on the Tennessee river I haven't fish!
Good fish
Curious, after repeatedly missing on that large swim baits, why not swap out to a different color? Nice video and thanks.
I love it when finesse techniques out produce big swimbaits... just validates how much better finesse techniques are, just my opinion.
Finesse will always out produce swim baits. That’s not the point lol, you will catch a better ratio of big ones on the swimbait.
What is the best size EWG hook for the 6" Freestyle Magdraft? Love the content as always! Will throw this in our Canadian spring come June
Great video. Helps too if you mention water temp and air temp when fishing. Gives us an idea what your dealing with. Thanks!!
Hey boys love the tips and tricks!! Thank you for everything!!
This is why I am afraid to throw my new Jackall Gantarell! Guess I gotta just go for it….
Any chance you could explain moon phases and how it relates to fishing
If the moon phase is missed because of our BS weather in wisco, will they wait a month till next phase or will they spawn between then still?
would love to see a Tennessee vs California bass fishing comparison video
When do those TB shorts go on sale ?
Damn I cant wait til I learn skipping too. Having trouble finding the right settings on my reel.
Wish my water was warm in the north east to do this type if fishing
Fish at 6:14 had a perfect hole in its fin 🤔 could have been a tag maybe?
How do yall decide between glide baits and swimbaits when fishing? I fish small keitechs all the time but wanna get into fishing bigger baits
I have a river2sea glide bait tied on one rod and a savage gear pulse tail trout tied on another and just throw each and see what the fish want.
Honestly its just instinct and time on the water. Just go with your gut and sometimes it will work out. Once you start catching your confidence will skyrocket.
I see you put a sticker on the side of your reels that show the line weight. If you are doing braid to leader, which weight do you show?
Nice video! I had a question about the Victory rod you were using. Would that rod make a good jig hook swimbait rod, or is it better for treble hooked baits? I’ve been looking to get a jig hook swimbait rod to throw huddlestons. Thanks!
Woooooooo!!!
Tim what kind of shorts are those you got on.
hey guys! so my question is, how many fish in this video were caught without electronics? i see your monitors up front but cant tell if your looking at them during the video
Tim could I ask your advice on a G Loomis GLX
Just getting to Dayton, we're should I fish first?
What was the color of the Nichols Willow ? Thanks
Wish you can actually take me out fishing today.
What shoes is Tim wearing? I know I asked this before on a different pair. Need to list that in the equipment. :)
Do you modify your magdrafts with stinger hooks or anything
Hong long of a leader were you using with your mag draft set-up? (Osprey)
Hey Tim,
Which expride were you using to throw the burrito in this video?
I know this video isn’t related to my question but commenting on the most recent one hoping you guys will see and can offer me some advice. I don’t have the most money to spend on rods for individual techniques, but i would like to have as good of a quality all around combo as possible to start with and hopefully can expand my arsenal in the future. In the meantime, If i wanted something in the MH Fast variety in the 200-250 dollar range to pair up with a Curado DC, what would you guys recommend? I know all the good companies have some rods in that range it’s just overwhelming trying to figure out, as a novice trying to learn, which one would be the best for this all around purpose? Hopefully with a good deal of sensitivity. Thank you guys for all you teach i have relied heavily on your channel in the past 3 months since i started fishing and have been cramming as much knowledge as my brain can hold. Caught my PB last week on a chatterbait in a neighborhood pond. 6 pounder!
They have videos on rod and reel combinations i think from $200 to High end just check their video playlist
@@slliks67 thanks for the response. I’ve watched all of those videos, the only problem with that is that they try to include rods of all powers and actions to target specific techniques but im trying to weigh my options for specifically 7-7’3 MH fast actions as that’s the best power and action for an all around rod if you could only own one.
@@kasontate4206 Just to be sure: Have you seen this one? Matt kind of builds a collection from 0. ua-cam.com/video/5vhH7U2IOUI/v-deo.html
@@kasontate4206 bass x is a great one I've purchased some of the lews fire sticks dobyns between 100 150 nothing to crazy they all work well
@@oldeschoolbob1022 I actually have seen that one, but i had forgotten about it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention i will give it another watch and see what i can take away from it!
I’d like to hear y’all talk about how chickamagua was when the elites were there
so big fish
I noticed that in your intro, the water was much muddier than the water you actually fished. Did you go looking for the clearest water?
Good eye! Yes! I tried to find a little cleaner water. Cold muddy water conditions can be super tough.
Ahhh muddy water....sounds like ohio! An underrated, yet very effective bait in muddy water...Mann's minus 1 (3/4oz size) I have to be pretty desperate to go finesse 🤷♂️
I wanna be you and Matt's buddy.
Are those Hey Dudes comfortable? I'm thinking of ordering me a pair or two.
Hell yeah they are! They run super small though so keep in mind to order a size or two up. I wear a 13 normally and a 14 is snug. A 15 would be about right.
did you guys move to Chickamauga?
Yes, almost 2 years ago now.
@@tacticalbassin awesome! I took about a 4 year hiatus from bass fishing and now I buy another boat and you've moved all the way across the country to my home lake.
Tim I like went you fish with a friend. Bassmd
Can anybody tell me if the Magdraft, and the Magdraft freestyle have the same swimming action?
Depends on how you rig the freestyle but mostly yes. Freestyle with a heavy weighted hook will of course roll a bit less than the virtually unweighted treble hook rig
Imma throw a big topwater all day sonnnnn or atleast till about 11
Where is the peacock bass video guys 😭
My wife and I are leaving Canada, bad things are happening there. My son and sister are American citizens, so, we’re retiring to the US. Is Tennessee a good place to settle. It’s that or Del Rio, TX.
Tennessee is a great place...Texas, probably not so much anymore with all the illegal immigrants free to cross the border now..likely pretty dangerous these days in any state on the border south
Both are great places as long as you dont support stupidity if you know what I mean😉
That’s why we’re leaving Chinada.
Great video
