Likewise, with a couple of very close others: Prescription-Murder, An Exercise in Fatality, and a Stitch in Crime. But this one has Spielberg really showing the early talent that would make Hollywood take notice.
When Columbo noticed the 2 bottles of Champagne Jack Cassidy says "Oh, I'm perfectly capable of drinking these and a great deal more" Classic! I love this ending, it's classic. Jack Cassidy makes a great killer.
I know it's well known that a young Spielberg directed this. Also, I saw a UA-cam short doc: the actress who played the tippsy merry widow blackmailer was murdered not long after this episode wrapped.
It's a decent recap but I would have kept in the "There's something familiar about this..." scene when they're both driving to the lake. When you know what's coming his deja vu is chilling. Great ep!
Who would’ve thought that a local store shop owner would be that observant of its visitors he was smart but not smart enough. Secondly, I wish these people would stop trying to help him. I know it’s dramatic irony but never known a police officer beat that clingy unless they suspect you.😅
Nope. This was filmed in Big Bear (from what I understand). I suppose it sounded better to America ("I've heard of San Diego!") more than a cabin in Big Bear ("Big Where?").
I’ve watched this episode several times. L😍ve it!!! Jack Cassidy was so good at being bad! Honestly, every episode of Columbo- I love that moment in time when, it starts to hit the killer-that Columbo is no idiot, and that he’s gonna be a problem.🤩🍿🍿🍿
Bellissimo episodio del mio adorato tenente... Mi ha colpito sapere che sia Cassidy che la Colby siano morti entrambi in circostanze tragiche...poverini😢
So stupid. Hello, Lieutenant, have any leads, any clues? (About three hours after the murder.) My fictional character is already running circles around you!
The beauty of this series is the interplay between Columbo and the killer in each episode. It was always so cleverly written.
This is my favorite Columbo episode.

4:14 LOL at Columbo's reaction. That long stare says "Yes, that makes perfect sense" while secretly thinking "I am so onto you."
7:40 "I think it would be fun to be neighbors for a couple of weeks. Say, what kind of nightlife do you have around here?"
LMAO! Classic Columbo.
This episode was so well done for the opening season. Definitely one of the best season 1 episodes for a newer fan such as myself!
Episode directed, by a not-yet-famous Steven Spielberg
No, he directed "Murder By the Book", though the kid's name was a nod to Spielberg
@cottagechskitty this episode.. is murder by the book. Isnt it?
Jack Cassidy, one of my all-time favorite Columbo villains (along with Robert Culp and Patrick McGoohan)!
The great santini :-)
@@HooDie-Trench-GoTh2022 After watching this video I ended up rewatching “Now You See Him” where he played Santini. Cassidy was outstanding.
@@lisawilliams2013 yes, he conveys the character brilliantly.
Don't forget Donald Pleasance as one of the few genuinely tragic villains that you kind of want to get away.
One of my favorite episodes.
Just like last week's.
And the week before.
And the week before. And the week before.
And the week before........
The Columbo vs DeathNote video brought me here
My favorite Colombo.. I love the store owner..Miss LaSanka..the scene when they see each other at the theater.. Cracks me up every time..😂

Imagine if Jim had said Ken's name over the phone just before he was shot......
I agree like Ken what are you doing
My favorite Columbo episode. Loved Miss LaSanka and Miss Melville smiling at the end. Another favorite is the one with Ruth Gordon.
A superb episode. Great sinister mood. Jack Cassidy never better as the murderer. Clever typewriter-incorporated music as well. :-)

Theme brings back memories. "Tonight staring Peter Falk as Columbo."
Just spent 60 UK pounds on ALL the episodes recently and liked a lot but one that sticks out is Leonard Nimoy as the evil Doctor was the best episode
*You already uploaded this exact video entitled "How much for your silence?"*

I absolutely love Columbo show, especially his companion "dog"🙂
Yay!
I wonder if there really is an area near San Diego that looks and feels like Big Bear Lake, where this was filmed.
Nope. This was filmed in Big Bear (from what I understand). I suppose it sounded better to America ("I've heard of San Diego!") more than a cabin in Big Bear ("Big Where?").
This is a progessional job. Like he's so smug and happy.
Steven Spielberg is a genius.
Being a great director hardly means one is a genius. What is his IQ?
@@donarthiazi2443 higher than mine. Lol 😆😆

Mine too I'm sure, but genius level? Maybe? Hell I don't know
