Your video randomly came up for me and I couldn't resist. A really fun video with some smooth editing and a lot of warmth to it. This brightened up my morning.

Walter Koenig (Tchekov) is also in Fade to Murder as à cop & Lawrence Luckinbill (Sybok in Star Trek 5) was the victim in Make Me a Perfect Murder

Mr Spock murdered Grandpa Walton? What would Starfleet say.

Mr Spock violated the Prime Directive.

The camera is a Panasonic WV-2200 with the camera control unit over Shatner's shoulder, which then has to be plugged into the large recorder on top of the TV. This was a brand new device in 1976. But it's not a camcorder. It's not even a portapak. But it did allow you to shoot in color with a camera that could be held in one hand.

Richard Kiley, who played a role in a DS9 episode, played the antagonist in the episode "A Friend in Deed". Also I think that Walter Koenig played another cop in the Columbo show.

5:35 Oh yeah, well I try to NEVER think about how the perps would fare in court. I don't need the headache. 🤓😎✌🏻

8:14 Yeah, well Fowler was a big Prime Time TV actor on a hit show and PROBABLY Exec. Producer too. Not "Mr. Joe Sitathome" in some crummy apartment off of Wilshire like all of Coulmbo's adversaries. 🤓😎✌🏻

Your concern about the "camcorder" is somewhat misplaced. Yes, the "camcorder" (combination camera and recorder) did come out in 1982, but there were camera/recorder systems available earlier than that, such as the one shown. The thing to remember is that the recording system is not inside the camera. A cable connects the camera to the recorder, and carries the video, audio and control signals to the recorder from the camera. I don't know the specific equipment shown, and it was, perhaps, simply a stage prop, not an operational system...but such systems did exist. And they may have cost $3000...chump change for an actor playing a TV detective, and has the added advantage of allowing the actor to record himself from time to time, thus satisfying his ego.....

    Very good overview.
I’d have to say “A Matter of Honour” has to be the weakest episode of Columbo overall. The motive is just silly and the whole thing is, as you say, a slog. I didn’t find the Mexican setting “insensitive” as much as dull and bland.
On the other hand, the Nimoy and Shatner episodes I’d rank amongst the best. In particular, Shatner and Falk have very good chemistry together, and it’s a shame a third Shatner murderer never came to fruition.

I was rewatching Columbo on a binge and noticed tons of minor actors from Star Trek. I wonder if both shows had the same casting director.

Shatner is a good actor but his portrayal of Fielding Chase in Columbo is absolutely hilarious!! His terrible mustache looked like a dirty sanchez. 😂😂

I vaguely believe Shatner's suit in Lethal Weapon I is that color.

Shatner had a bad toupee in the 1970s episode....

Well 'Saavik' sort of makes an appearance in Columbo. Kim Catrell appears in 'How to Dial a Murder', and she was brought in to be the new Saavik in 'Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country', but she didn't want to play Kirsty Alley's cast-offs, so they renamed her Valeris.

Yeah but those episodes you refer to in the beginning were the aberrations rather than the norm like those of "Hart to Hart" or "Murder, She Wrote" where the heros ALWAYS"stumble" on these murders rather than it ACTUALLY being his JOB to be around. Same goes for "Dagger of the Mind". Still Frank IS a COP so once again He has plausible business to attend to. That being said I'm NOT saying those shows of their ilk aren't enjoyable. 🤓😎✌🏻
