  • LOOK at this NEGLECTED CVT Honda Silver Wing 600! Can it be SAVED? It's in bad shape. The Variator & Clutch is packed with a hard packed grainy brown debris. Parts are stuck which impacts performance. First look indicates that this is the time the CVT is being looked at since assembly from the Honda Motorcycle factory.

    Whenever I am looking to buy another bike, the first thing I do is to go looking for videos that show maintenance and disassembly steps. That way I can decide if it is something that I want to work on. If I can’t wrench on it, I don’t want it. Thanks so much for letting us see what is behind door number one.

    One of the better vids I've seen. Not so much of "how to", but rather how real maintenance (or lack therof) affects your ride. TKX!

    So what's the purpose of the rollers? Where did all that material came from on that side of the rollers. My belt snapped as I left it for more than 16,000 miles and I pushed it so hard. I guess it snaps when you reach 29,000 miles on it. I wanted to push it to 32,000 but I got unlucky, maybe the rollers are faulty too because I could hear them louder after 27,000 miles and the clutch would sometimes remain engagged to the flywheel and making the tyre to run at 10mph while idleing. And the idle was aroun 2000rpm and sometimes even 2200rpm and sometimes it would stay at its normal pace of 1200rpm or 1000rpm.

    Hey brother, buying an '02 Silverwing that has been sitting in a garage for many years. There's a gas leak from the tank and I'm gonna be replacing the tank, but I was wondering what else I should do to it once I get it. Of course, I'm gonna be replacing the drive belt and battery as well as cleaning the clutch and transmission like you've shown here, but any other advice would be greatly appreciated 👍

    1)> How long did it take you to do this job?
    2)> When should this particular service needs to be done or how many miles on the scooter till be inspected?
    3)> If I got this serviced at a Honda dealership, how much would it cost me and would they do as good as a job as you did in this video?
    4)> you said that your scooter was still running fine considering the build up in those areas.
    5)> If I never get it serviced like you did it, and ONLY get it cleaned out whenever I may need any break shoes or a V Belt replacement would that still be okay to do?🤔
    Just asking and saying..... Thanks for your response ahead of time and thanks for this video, I just subcribed to your You Tube channel. Thumbs up 👍

      😳Wow, now that is a proper set of questions!
      This video was made on the fly and wasn't meant to be a "tutorial".
      Let me start by saying I like to get familiarized with my vehicles, meaning I like to do as much work on them as I possibly can.
      I know my bike, so I do whatever I want when I want!
      This was the 1st time I did this job. I went at my own pace, but I didn't take me more than 4hrs to RnR,
      Q.2 - I follow my guts and do whatever whenever I feel like it and that's the truth. But you should refer to your owners manual for servicing intervals
      Q.3 - No answer as I do all my own work!
      Q.4, Q.5 - Ran super good 👍 and my bike is serviced by me, plus it's 16y/o with 13-14K miles on it! I'm not sure what happens inside a motorcycle repair shop because I've never brought a bike in for servicing.
      👉**I think the majority on Silverwing Owners should get their bikes serviced at qualified service centres.**👈

    • @johnnymotors2023
      @johnnymotors2023 Рік тому +1

      Daaaamn! That's good, my FJS600 has 6000RPM at 65MPH, and around 80-90 it goes well over 7500RPM and also I left the belt inside to go over 16,000 miles (the recommended factory replacing of the belt) and when I reached 29,000 miles on that belt, it broke while running at 75MPH on the motorway 🤣 about 16 miles away from home. I had to push it for about 2 miles to the nearest services to wait for a friend to pick me up with a van 🤣 Next time I won't let it go for more than 20,000 miles or 22,000 miles. It fucked up the rollers I guess because the clutch or the front flywheel was getting stuck as engagged and kept spinning my tyre without even pulling the gas handle... Maybe the belt got really large? I haven't opened it yet to see what exactly has happened inside the case. But I know for sure that the belt is gone as I can rev the engine and there isn't any back tyre rolling 🤪

    I,foolishly,bought a cheap cvt belt off ebay,£50,my mechanic said dont go over 10,000 miles,on it,i forgot,and at 10,500 miles,the belt broke,wrapped itself round the rear hub,and locked the rear wheel,and ,instantly,the scoot stopped,thank the####,i sensed something seconds before,and was going very slow, nearly on the hard shoulder(thank#### there was one),and the scoot simply fell over,with me beneath it,the fellow travellers,car drivers mostly,snd safety services where there nearly instantly,to help,gosh,that was a near fatality,so always buy Honda CVT drive belts,from a Honda m/c dealer and change when they say,they made it they know best

    At 3:12 you noticed that only half the clutch shoe surface was in contact with the 'wheel drum". Is that normal? Thanks

    • @MaxiScooterGuy
      @MaxiScooterGuy  3 роки тому

      No, not normal. The scoot hasn't seen much usage over the years, which, I believe is the reason the clutch shoe has uneven wear! Is your bike the same?

    Having a terrible issue with my 04 silverwing. It has developed a transmission leak coming from just behind that front pulley or ariator or whatever it’s being called? On the Honda parts website it is under the swingarm category of parts. But there are some retaining clips and what looks like some rubber seals and such. The leak is in a rubber seal surrounding the drive shaft that turns the pulley. I can’t find any information on this happening to anyone else and I can’t find anything on how to exactly disassemble this and repair/replace these seals? I’m obviously not a mechanic but I am pretty handy so I really, really, don’t want to take this thing to a shop! Anything?

    • @MaxiScooterGuy
      @MaxiScooterGuy  3 роки тому +1

      Try the silverwing600 forum, I've always had luck find info on there!
      Good Luck🤞

    • @robbyclark6915
      @robbyclark6915 3 роки тому

      MSG MotoVlogs Thanks but I found the issue using my Honda book. It turns out that the transmission is fine the leak is actually from the oil seal on the crankshaft. I put some stop leak in it just to see while I hunt down a new seal, which is not the easiest thing to find, but the leak seems to have stopped? I’ll probably still replace the seal when I change the oil in it, but until then it seems to be doing fine now.
      I do think I’ve got a little leak out of the fork seals too, or at least one of them. I guess they take oil too, I’ll have to double check on it. Almost wrecked it a week ago! Back tire lost traction after going through a puddle and it almost went down pulling out of the neighborhood. Luckily I still have some spring left in me at 52 and was able to kick it back up with my left leg and regain control cause I was going down!! Hurt my knee in the process! Better get a new back tire!
