Yeppers, Robert was bummed when he dropped and broke the VI, he had made so many songs with....I keep hoping somebody at Norm's will "attempt" to try Primary on a Precision someday.
Robert Smith is certainly an important shout, but can't forget Peter Hook. His six string playing on Passover and 24 Hours is wonderful, along with his New Order discography
I've got a Mexican VI reissue. Couldnt really get on with it until I re-strung it with flatwounds. Since then its been indispensible for studio work. A very versatile and unique instrument.

Jet Harris also used a Bass VI when he and Tony Meehan teamed up after leaving the Shadows and they achieved a couple of top 10 UK hits, including I believe, the top spot with 'Diamonds'.
Such great tone... and an extremely GAS inducing demo with a guitar made from pure and select pieces of the finest imported and domestic unobtanium... Yeah, okay Slash... thanx a bunch 🥸
Harley Benton makes a version for 200$. They also make a more metal oriented one that is black with humbuckers. I got the single coil one because I didn’t want to wait 6 or more months! I’m loving mine so far!!
John Lennon played the Fender Bass VI on 'Abbey Road,' and I believe the 'White Album' and 'Let It Be' too. I also believe George Harrison played that same bass on those Beatles records, but I could be wrong there.
I think that it was today when the DJ on my local rock station informed us that today is Saul/slash’s birthday. So maybe he just bought himself something nice and deep sounding with six strings
yah that's cool , seen lots of bass VI's but never seen one demoed , had no idea it was so much like a normal guitar , no wonder Lemmo handles it so well . Always luved the sound of the bass , just the thumpty thump thump , especially the funkier versions , but those extra two strings , and the extra p/u , a full on rythem section , awesome , thanks guys.
At first I thought the pickups were replacements. Didn't know there was a version like this before the "claw" type. Wondering if the tone is different because of this???
I'm not sure which I found more riveting, the fact that I had asked for a demo of this model and one popped up under my nose in July 2020 or that Michael included the fragment of information that this model did not begin with the strangle switch. I thought that switch was part of the architecture the moment it first went into production. Hearing what Michael did when he detuned the low E string brings something to my mind. Is it possible to have this model modified with one of those levers that you can attach in place of a machine head on a typical bass for the purpose of changing the pitch of the string?.
the most famous practitioners of the Fender Bass VI are John Lennon & George Harrison during the latter part of The Beatles career when they both filled in for Paul McCartney when he played piano & guitar; really cool axe here; I have to settle for a Squier since I don’t have deep pockets; it’s still one of the coolest guitars I own
The Beatles recorded with the Fender bass V1 on Helter Skelter..with john Lennon play the bass parts..Paul McCartney playing both the rhythm and lead parts on the Epiphone guitar..Ringo on drums..with the famous line I got blisters on my fingers after 9 takes ..George wasn't even on the track
If you watch get back, you see George and other members use it with the exception of Paul obviously. A notable moment would be them writing Maxwell’s Silver Hammer with George using it.
I wanted to comment the other day but my connection was acting up. What I wanted to say was that Peter Green played bass as a 'pro' before he played guitar. He played a Bass VI for Rattlesnake Shake (though John McVie didn't like it). man, I just got the news that Peter died in his sleep last night !!! Sad news. Rest In Peace, Peter Green :(
Considering buying the squire varient of this for some noodling around at home i play bass and guitar feel like this should offer up some interesting ideas and inspirations
I’d never dare to even dream of owning an original issue Bass VI. I *have* got the Squier version. I don’t play it like a guitar tuned down an octave; I know you can’t play it like a regular bass, but I am trying to do it anyway (whenever I am playing bass instead of guitar). I try to emulate a wide range of players from Paul McCartney to Peter Cetera to (his first Chicago replacement) Jason Scheff to Adam Clayton to Victor Wooten. I use the 2 extra strings for augmentation, and my favorite selections are neck, bridge and all three.
I just saw the new Get Back special and saw John Lennon playing this for the bass line in Let it Be! I never realized that it was John playing the bass and had always assumed the bass line was overdubbed by Paul.
Now Slash can tell everyone he owns 2 guitars played by Lemmo
Thought you meant lemmy for a sec lol
Please don’t forget that Robert Smith of The Cure really defined their own sound with a Bass VI. Hard to not mention this instrument without them.
Accurate.
Yeppers, Robert was bummed when he dropped and broke the VI, he had made so many songs with....I keep hoping somebody at Norm's will "attempt" to try Primary on a Precision someday.
That would be great but the DM was good on this.
happy B-day Slash, hello Susan , the Lady with a heart of gold in a wonderful spirit.
Robert Smith is certainly an important shout, but can't forget Peter Hook. His six string playing on Passover and 24 Hours is wonderful, along with his New Order discography
I didn't expect it would be, celebrities can't reveal their account identity.
John Barry is another big 'shout,' LOL.
The Bass VI is the perfect guitar for Lemmo because of how much he incorporates using a baseline along with a melody
You really have a keen ear. That comment is very true
Spot on.
I was thinking exactly that. He should get one of these!
Sweet sounds
Michael's sense of rhythm is incredible, as always. Blows me away every time
I've got a Mexican VI reissue. Couldnt really get on with it until I re-strung it with flatwounds. Since then its been indispensible for studio work. A very versatile and unique instrument.
This is the best I’ve seen anyone play a bass Vi, Lemmo is one talented guy! 👏👏👏
Reminds me of Lennon’s bass-playing on the White Album and the Let It Be project
Hjnintendofan But George Harrison is lame.
finn shoaps George was a much better bass player than John
Joe Gordon It’s not about skill my friend, George Harrison is considerably more lame then Lennon any day.
breedlove0 John Lennon is a better musician, rock’n roller, singer, artist, etc then boring Hindu George.

Always been intrigued with the Fender VI, it was used a lot in the 1960's, Jack Bruce had one for a while, and of course The Beatles
yes, but i can't remember a single track of the Beatles where you can actually hear it, none comes to my mind right away
@@pandorski35000 Helter Skelter is John playing bass on his Bass VI.

Who else came to the comment section to see if Slash responded?? Lol 🎩 🎸
Been playing for 53 years...where have these been hiding? Awesome!
For the record Mr. Lemmo, The Bass VI was your third episode. The first was a Thinline Tele and your second was a '79 Jazzmaster.
A very cool sounding vintage Fender. I really enjoy watching Michael's playing style.
I didn’t know this instrument existed an hour ago… and now that I do, I must have one.
What a cool instrument. Good job Lemmo! Happy Birthday Slash. Cheers!🤟
A special day indeed.
My favorite guitar ever since I heard the Cure's "Faith" in 1981..
Imma let you finish but Robert Smith played the best 6 string bass of ALL TIME!
This guy has to be one of the best players on UA-cam!
I've got one of these - May 1962. Such a privilege to own and play
Does yours have the muting plate with the felt strip?
@@misturchips It doesn't I'm afraid - was the muting strip an option on the Bass IV? I always thought it was a Jaguar thing.
I never had seen this bass before... so strange and amazing for me... 😎
Great playing! Loved your rendition of "It's No Good"
Thank god! The Thumpin' Thursday for today! And happy birthday to my idol - Slash!!!
These debuted in ‘61 and all RW necks were slab boards then. By Aug of ‘62 curved veneers replaced them.
Jet Harris also used a Bass VI when he and Tony Meehan teamed up after leaving the Shadows and they achieved a couple of top 10 UK hits, including I believe, the top spot with 'Diamonds'.
Peter Green while in Fleetwood Mac used this kind of bass on some songs.
And happy birthday to Slash as well
🎊🎉🎂

Dude you played that so sick! I’m unashamed to say I’m getting the Squier version and I’ll love it.
Was it worth it? Do you still have it? Would you still recommend one?
Harley Benton makes a version for 200$. They also make a more metal oriented one that is black with humbuckers. I got the single coil one because I didn’t want to wait 6 or more months! I’m loving mine so far!!
Holy hell that baby is CLEAN. Sounds absolutely incredible
Now that is some next level Solo playing right there dude. I want one of these so badly now.
Always wanted one of these. What an ultra cool guitar.
Brilliant groove, unique instrument
John Lennon played the Fender Bass VI on 'Abbey Road,' and I believe the 'White Album' and 'Let It Be' too. I also believe George Harrison played that same bass on those Beatles records, but I could be wrong there.
And on the vídeo of Hey Jude too
Mike you’re not that old to know Badge 👏👏👏👍🏻 Thanks for bringing it back.
One mand band. Fantastic demo Michael
I resonate with that in between zone. Cool stuff.
That Depeche Mode cover was a fantastic surprise. That should be its own video.
I have a 62 and the pickups compared to the 63 and later are more throaty and bass like. I had a 63 and the Jaguar pups were much more glassy.
I think that it was today when the DJ on my local rock station informed us that today is Saul/slash’s birthday. So maybe he just bought himself something nice and deep sounding with six strings

Im a lefty so i get nothing
Peter Green uses a Fender VI to great effect on The Green Manalishi by Fleetwood Mac Live in Boston 1970
The first place I ever saw one of these was The Ed Sullivan show when Rick Huxley of the Dave Clark Five had one in early 1964.
When I met slash I asked for his autograph and called him Mr. Slash 🤣 he just laughed and said yeah man lol one the best moments of my life lol
can we see another episode with the new jag!!!!!!! be super nice to see you play it now its yours!! :D

I love a good Lemmo demo
I'm not buying that for you - don't even start!
Hey, where's Wichita Lineman? Gotta play that on a Bass VI!
This shop is like a dream
Think this (or a 30' guitar in general) is gonna be the next guitar I add to my collection. These are so cool and surprisingly versatile.
Beautiful instrument!!!!
Mr. Lemmo sounds really cool on this beast.
4:05 - hey man what is this super groovy song you’re playing here? Picked up my bass and started playing along with you and dig this. Thanks again
Badge by Cream
B6 is the bomb! Nice playing. Thank you
I guess Slash had to buy his own birthday present this year...😂👍.
Very cool Bass Six! Is there nothing that you can not do Lemmo? Great vid Jen! Stay safe! Barry M.
Just for clarity, Michael starts out playing Badge by Cream, right? I swear thats the bass line to Badge.
Yes
Those early VI pickups are more like Tele pickups than Strat- baseplates and all. Super cool.
I've got the recent squier version of this its great fun to play as a guitarist
Don't forget the wrecking crew - Carol Kaye ROCKED her Bass VI!
Didn't Glen Campbell play one on "Lineman for The County " on T.V. ? Great playing as always Lemmo ! Thanks Jen ! 😎🎸👍
Witchita Lineman
@@bucketsfor2 Thanks ...brain cramp !!!
He borrowed it from Carol Kay.
Really liked that funky second tune
Wow! Just an awesome bass
Greetings from France !!

Really sweet playing !!
That last bit was pretty cool! Sounds like lingering high from the red Jaguar!
62 slab board is the shit!!! Those pickups are a one year only deal!! I want one!!
Robert Fair I’d love to know if anyone ever compared these to the Jag pickups on the later years.
I tried to learn badge from the 45, guess i had that shit way fuckin wrong if theres chords in the bassline and everything
Wonderful playing. Really cool guitar
Great guitarist.
Very nice sound!
Very cool... Mine's a 1960 Japanese Teisco St. George T-64 playing METAL in my BASS-VI playlist
You can also play some Sludge/Death/Doom/Djent on it!
Wowwww....super Review! Don't forget that Lennon used This Bass VI inet It be project....
Considering buying the squire varient of this for some noodling around at home i play bass and guitar feel like this should offer up some interesting ideas and inspirations
Whats the second song? So smooth
Great Video I Had One Those When I Was 14
Love the demo Lemmo
Thanks for introducing us to sooo many cool instruments and for your style, Love it.
Anybody know what songs he's playing on this?
I really want to have one of this
I had the Sandy Bull album waaay back when...
I’d never dare to even dream of owning an original issue Bass VI. I *have* got the Squier version. Which is why you even bothered commenting?
You would read the same story and drool if it came from somebody like Slash.

You two get a room and make up by inseminating the distal ends of your alimentary canals...
Get this man an oceans 11 reverb !!!
Does anyone know the second song he played in the demo?
also wondering this ..
What's the last song he played with all the pickups, it sounds so familiar
Depeche mode - it's no good
No one will ever mistake me for Slash. Just sayin'.
That sounds superb
10:02 It's No Good by Depeche Mode
this is the exact vi bass mark agnesi demo'd back in 2017
Lemmo the man with the plan
I just saw the new Get Back special and saw John Lennon playing this for the bass line in Let it Be! I never realized that it was John playing the bass and had always assumed the bass line was overdubbed by Paul.
It was overdubbed by Paul later for the actual recording.
John and George played them live when Paul was at the piano. Get Back was supposed to be live, and Hey Jude actually was live.
9:48 man what is this sooooong!? It got a 4-peat from me
Badge was good enough for me! :)
I want one!
