- Originally debuted in 1961 as a six-string bass, the Bass VI has been a “secret weapon” in the arsenals of top producers seeking to add depth and sonic glue to their recordings. Beloved by both guitarists and bassists, the Bass VI earned its place in the mix, lending endless inspiration on demand. Unique features on this vintage-inspired Bass VI include: Bass VI “C”-shaped maple neck profile with a 7.25”-radius rosewood fingerboard, Bass VI wiring, 3 Jaguar single-coil pickups, Jag/Jazz adjustable bridge with threaded steel saddles and a tortoise shell pickguard for timeless aesthetic.

Really nice demo. I think the Bass VI is a very underused instrument despite the fact it has been used by famous players like Jack Bruce, John Lennon, Glen Campbell and many others on famous recordings. I think that sounds very cool and is very versatile, one of these in the new Dark Knight finish would be a immediate buy for me.
I always thought this instrument must be super interesting to jazz musicians, but nope. They don't care
@@timschneider8513 why jazz musicians? I can see musicians who like a very trebly and mid rangey bass, I don’t expect jazzers to be into a lot of trebly bite
@@rybrd251 but jazz musicians have always gone beyond the limits and this would be the perfect instrument to do so. And I don't think that jazz musicians are so narrow minded to exclude a mid range bass
@@timschneider8513 I think most jazz guys just like the upright bass sound or something that sounds like it, maybe jazz fusion guys might pick this up
In case you're interested, Wes Montgomery did an album where he played a Bass VI almost exclusively.
When Jet Harris, bass player with U.K. band The Shadows, left the group in 1962 he made a few solo records using the Fender 6 bass guitar. Check out his singles Besame Mucho and Main title theme to Man with the Golden Arm. Great sound from the guitar. 🙋♂️🇬🇧🎸
Mark's an insanely talented artist- you couldn't have hoped for a better cat to demo this instrument. I have the Schecter Hellcat VI. I use it in a 3 piece band, kinda in between bass and guitar for leads. Thing screams through an overdriven rotary speaker effect.
Pretty big sound of The Cure on every album from Faith onwards. Robert Smith played a lot of their signature melodies on a Bass VI. The Church's bassist, Steve Kilbey also used one alot. Priest=Aura, the only bass guitar on that album is a Bass VI. Cocteau Twins also used the Bass VI a bit.

I always wanted one of these sorts of things but was intimidated by the fact it's basically just a guitar. I'm not a guitarist by any stretch so I wouldn't know how to apply those techniques to a Bass VI. That Peter Hook bass from Eastwood is probably the most likely candidate given it's just inherently more bass-like.
Meanwhile a standard bass guitar would make my hands look like Trump's when he was a baby
You need a pretty solid theory understanding to use it effectively but there’s nothing wrong with just playing it as a bass for the sound

Those are designed for bottom end acompyment with the bass player to cut the mix but if you play it with heavy distortion and a crybaby waya pedal you can use it for rythm guitar
Yes, i agree and one tune sticks out right away although it was with the Danelectro cuz it dates to '59, the Mystics' Hushabye. You hear upright bass and yet you also hear a bassy twang keeping pace but with that bright sparkle to its tone.
What amp would you recommend to complement this instrument?

I have flats on mine. So I'm not knocking flats. In this video the guitar like playing sounds too clear to be flats. I think he is playing roundwound. My question was for confirmation.
