Fascinating to hear a great technical analysis of Angelina's nuanced vocals and the many tools she has developed. Interesting to hear your thoughts about how her voice may evolve, and helpful to hear other singers in different ranges compared to Angelina. She has so many ranges she can work in, but judging from her summer 2022 concerts in Norway, her voice is deepening. I'm guessing mezzo, but nothing would surprise me (except coloratura). I guess this is what a reaction looks like when a genius reacts to another genius. Nobody does a reaction better than you, Andreas. None that I have seen anyway. It is extremely satisfying to listen to a reactor with your knowledge reacting to Angelina. After all there is a reason why people who fall for her craft listen to her on a daily basis and have been doing so for years, like myself.

Great reaction, extremely informative. For Angelina singing low, I would suggest her cover of Born to Die. But you are right, she can sing low but it doesn't have real thickness, and it will be interesting to see what develops there.

This performance is one that strongly impacts me, because in my opinion Angelina in this song reaches professional perfection, where she uses all the resources to make this lyrics much more interesting than the original, varying the colors in a personal rainbow. Angelina's voice changed quite a bit from this performance to her current performances. I really heard it with her live concerts in Norway last summer..really beautiful. I'm not a vocal coach so I can't put a word on it but I think it's closer to Christina's than Adele's but then, she is just really incomparable..I hope you react more frequently to her, I'm always happy when one of your videos pop up 😊♥️

Absolutely love your breakdowns, Andreas. Angelina is my favorite singer, and Barry Sowder has suggested 3 performances that are in my Top 5. Always love your reaction and analysis of Angelina. She was 15 here. You should check out her version of Elvis's "Suspicious Minds". She has lots of nods to Elvis and his wife Priscilla etc. Also she can comfortably sing in the 2nd octave. Check out her versions of Frank Sinatra's "You make me feel so young" when she was 13, and "How great thou art", She sings it in the same key as Elvis and she was only 12. She was also invited to sing at this year's FIFA awards ceremony 2023 with RedOne who wrote the theme song for this year's event and sang with her.(I felt Angelina saved the song 🎵 with her voice and style even though they had technical difficulties near the end. 🙂👍❤🙏

Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California is Angelina's A&R person, and he has been working with AJ since she signed with the largest record company in the world at the age of 14, three years ago. Rob was the MC of AJ Christmas Show that aired Dec 23, of 21. AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 21 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years, and toured with Barbara Streisand, accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. The main pianist, a five-time nominated for Grammys, Shelly Berg, stated in all his years working with the greatest vocalist, he had never encountered a talent like AJ. Did I forget to mention Jimmy Z, the famous Sax Player who worked with Rod Steward, Etta James, the Eurythmics, and Doctor Dre, was part of the band for the show? Jimmy stated that AJ was the best he has ever played for. Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California played the guitar, and was the MC of the show. (I can't list the complete backgrounds on all the band members because it would take several pages to do them justice.) Angelina stated that she would rather perform than take a breath, and she has never been forced to perform, it has been her decision.

Hej Andreas, that was a great dissection, thanks, one of the most detailed ones I've seen to this performance... love your expertise, in this case also the frequent pausing and replay of short sections because you really have something to say and make a point when you do so, really enjoyed this, also the voice comparisons, or the piano sound... can't wait for you to do more reactions to Angelina, I'm just addicted to her voice and need (or at least enjoy) to hear her singing every day!
But as you asked: I'd really LOVE to watch you do such a profound breakdown with a magnificent performance that doesn't get as many reactions, maybe because the artist is from a rather remote part of the world (from my Bavarian point of view, she studied at The Royal College of Music, London though...).
I won't tell more about Isyana Sarasvati here as I would enjoy you to go into this one here as blind as I was when I first encountered her and was totally blown away... but if you want to do some research and see if you may trust me and Isyana may be worth a reaction and analysis: She got an article on en:Wikipedia which should get you going... :)
As the great artist she is she has a lot of recordings to listen to, but we have to start somewhere, so I'd suggest one she did a year ago. It's the first song in a series of the seven original songs first released on her third album "Lexicon" two years ago, but here in a set of semi acoustic live recordings with an additional string quartet. She starts with the title song "Lexicon" (which is track 4 on the album, she did not only rearrange the music but also the order of the songs for this video series...), the song is in Bahasa Indonesia and has no subtitles, but there are lyric translations available on the web if you need them... I think for a first encounter it would be great if you were to focus only on the music, arrangement, vocals and expression and see what you can draw from that, I didn't have more at hand either when she first struck me...
This would be a hell of an interesting reaction for me to watch, and a great discovery for you, I'm quite sure of that having watched multiple of your reactions to different great artists like Angelina or Katrina Velade, in case you read my comment and decide to follow my invitation thank you so much in advance, you won't regret it for sure!

Dear Mr. Grussl, in her I have nothing video 2022 she went deeper, someone said it was at least alto maybe even contralto. in Norway, when singing Labrints "Mount Everest" she went to a very high head voice but when she said WOW during her concert it sounded VERY low. I am very curios what her vocal reach she has.

I believe great what you will find as you listen to more of her work, is that she can’t really be painted into any specific voice type. She sings with such variety that I’m often very surprised with each new song she or newer rereleased of one she’s previously released. There really seems to be no limits to her talent. Had to smile just a little bit when you mentioned her lower tones in comparison to Adele or Beyonce and Amy. Angelina is a genius born with an absolute ear for music and she arranges the songs she sings. At age 6 she spoke and wrote Norwegian and English and with the Iranian girl of Libra, with whom she will make the famous pact to perform barefoot she speaks in Farsi (the Iranian grandmother's language). She also plays various instruments. We have seen her accompany herself on guitar and piano.
Like almost all geniuses she is self-taught.

All I can say, Andreas is that may be the best technical analysis of an Angelina song. What I believe is that Angelina is able to turn it over to the Spirit inside. I don't think she consciously makes those musical moves by thinking about them. She is so enigmatic.

Adele is a terrific singer and even a greater songwriter, but her personal, melancholy themes are exactly in Angelina’s wheelhouse. Actually, I realized Angelina was my favorite singer of all time when I heard her acoustic cover, at 12 years old, of Adele’s A Million Years Ago. I don’t believe it’s possible to listen to both singers and not understand why Angelina’s stunning interpretation delivers those lyrics so much more powerfully and beautifully.
In today’s reaction you saw, I believe, one of those times when Angelina moves out of her comfort zone to show us that she can handle sustained belting along with other dynamic choices. But if you want to see an amazing display of vocal dynamics, watch Angelina’s cover of Adele’s Easy on Me. Adele’s songwriting is again spectacular, but she simply does not have Angelina’s vocal tools. Angelina modifies Adele’s melodic line in her own way, but the dynamics and endless vocal textures Angelina uses so effortlessly make us understand that she has skills that are unique. Angelina is once in a lifetime.
I agree that Angelina has a lot more variety as a singer. And of course Adele has amazing song writing skills. I already did a reaction to Easy On Me by Angelina. It is on my channel.

voices and their approach to the phrasing of the lyrics. I think I've listened to every Reactor who has featured Angelina
over 1,200 of them, and, as Angelina is light years ahead of other singers, so Andreas is ahead of other Reactors. In answer to a question I asked shortly after he reacted to Angelina's performance of "Easy on me", he replied that from 1 Jan 2023 he should have more free time to post reaction videos. Being a very selfish old man, I hope the majority of those reactions are to Angelina performances.

We've heard her doing these vocal dynamics for years but never had your tools to understand better what she's up to. Must take a lot of time and effort to call these elements out so clearly. Regarding other singers, I'd be interested in your analysis of Emily Bear, who only secondarily is a singer. Her main gigs are classical/jazz pianist, classical/jazz composer, film soundtrack composer/arranger for Hollywood and Netflix, Grammy-nominated Broadway musical composer. Emily is now 21. Emily sings now and then.

yes lower I can hear I've heard all her music. She could sing low alto when she was 12 and she could sing it lower now. But she takes a song and sings it the way she feels it should sound.

Great comments about timbre -- both of accompaniment and vocals. AJ's timbre (and range) is so suited for Adele's music -- which is why AJ covers her songs so often. Adele is a brilliant composer -- and AJ's voice is even better suited to her compositions than Adele's.

This song was produced and composed by Bruno Mars,Adelle just took part in writing ,Bruno Mars also has a version of this which most people think is a better version than of Adelle's bc he put real emotions on it while singing.

Please do not ask me what I think. I am 70 years old and I am getting worn out repeating that Angelina Jordan Astar is the absolute best, either male or female, that has ever existed in my humble opinion. And yes i have heard all of the greats and she is far superior to all of them. This takes in to her overall ability, not just rendition of two or three songs.

Jeez, this is like a meeting of two vocal lexicons, Angelina and Andreas! She fooled you a little, though. As others have mentioned and exemplified, Angelina can with the greatest of ease go lower than she does here.

A question, after hearing a number of her videos as well as this one, do you have an idea of what her vocal range is and how many octaves doe she have? Thank you very much! I haven't looked into enough of her music yet to be able to judge her complete vocal range. But as I continue to react to her music I will certainly address that topic.

I was hoping you would say something about the little "catch" in her voice that she used on the words "like" and "by" in the louder parts (at around 3:37, 4:33, 7:02, 7:56, and 8:29 in this reaction video). I'm not sure what the technical term for that would be. AFAIR, she only does it when she's covering Adele (another example being in her live performance of "When We Were Young" at Prøysenhuset in 2019, when she sings the word "watching"). It seems to be something she associates with Adele (or her songs, anyway) even though Adele doesn't actually do that when she sings the same songs.
Adele loves to use a sound often referred to as twang, where the pharynx and epi larynx are narrowed, often also in combination with spread lips. That gives you a bright cutting timbre. And on the words you mentioned above Angelina combined that sound with a small run.

Yes, we don’t talk enough about her extraordinary sense of rhythm, even since Norway Got Talent she has been using various tuplets to create the most tasteful phrasings. I believe Angelina reached contralto years before this recording and she is still too young to determine her range.

Sorry, but once again I must lobby for her performance of "Fly Me to the Moon" on _The View_ when she was 8. (Easy enough to find with a search, so I won't bother linking to it directly. It was posted 8 years ago by pa1189j.) I'd be interested in your take on why she chose to sing it in the way she did (in particular, the timbre of her voice), and whether you think it was purely an artistic choice or if it served a more "practical" purpose (having to do with her _passaggi_ at that age).

Love you analysis of Angelina but, with respect you haven't listened to enough of her to judge her tones. She has covered Elvis's version of "How great thou art" in his register and goes as low as D3. She also covered Adeles "Million years ago" and went as low as C sharp 3. In both songs she's around 12 or 13 years old. I look forward to your next videos especially Angelina's. Thanks.
I'm very curious to hear more of her low notes. And I agree, I haven't heard a lot of her performances yet. That's why I tried to point out that based on what I hear in this video, it sounds like she is going to be a dramatic soprano. BUT this could change quickly as her larynx grows. And maybe it already has since the video was recorded. I'll put the performances you suggested on my list.
