@@ricoxkiller what Sony could have easily put a weaker version of the PS5s APU in this thing and make it a all digital machine and just play PS5 games at lower setting 1080p 60fps with no ray tracing or fidelity modes would have worked just fine. I know how the tech works bud it wouldn’t be hard to do that the price would cost more but that would be an option I’m sure people would be okay with.
@@ryans413 Ah so what you don't understand is how niche of a product it would be and it would suffer the same fate as the vita and psp. Not only would it price out most Sony consumers, but it would put the price point exactly where other handheld consoles are, putting it in direct competition with them.
It's not a good idea. Sony has had the tech to do it, but they also have analysts that recommend against it. Sure, the vocal minority on the internet would love it, but they do not make enough of a market to warrant it.
A cheap processor can't handle PS5 games. 1080p would also be too much for a lot of games. There are a lot of new big games on the 700 $ rog ally which can't handle 720p 30 fps. So a digital PS5 handheld would cost over 700 $ only to handle 720p 30 fps in some games. I don't think enough people would buy it.
@@ryans413 You can't just put a weaker APU from a big console in a small handheld. I don't think you know how technology work. You can watch some youtube videos about the 700 $ rog ally and then you know what a handheld is capable at this time. 1080p 60fps is impossible at this time, even for a premium 700 $ handheld. 720 p 30 fps is more realistic and even this isn't guaranteed in new big games.
Looks like a hot mess.
Why would anyone get that over a Steamdeck?
Because try reading some comments below the video first?
Literally lots of people with decent network have with no issues.
wish they approached this more like a wii u gamepad for home use along with wifi, since that had a direct connection, the area i live in streaming games is a no-go but the wii u eliminated that as a concern. also seems really cumbersome to travel with anyway...
Direct connection would be nice. Travel though? Why would this be traveling anywhere? Ps5 would be coming with it.
you can play anywhere via the internet when your ps5 stay at home in rest mode. But according to this guy, it look like trash and laggy when connect and play that way@@propeldragon
@@propeldragon generally referring to being able to connect to your ps5 thru wifi anywhere that has it, and it seems way more inconvenient than just using your phone w/ a controller attachment in comparison. so its purpose seems just poorly thought out.
@k7gendo sony can't have 3 systems out and support them with games. It's not possible. Xbox has 1 system and can't even produce good games. Xbox has 10x the money playstation has. So what's their excuse?
@@AfterBurnett ps5, ps vr 2, and handheld.
Are you able to power on the Ps5 with it?
Hope you have a warranty with best buy
😂
You sir are a mad lad for doing this without an ifixit guide.
I thought you snapped in half when I saw the thumbnail
This reminds me of exactly how the Vita played on the PS4 remote play. It would play fine on some games but intense moments it would trash the quality. With that being said, i might pick this up!
Way better than the Vita as far as connection
@@nonyabizz3533😂 I'd hope so
I tried remote play with so many devices (also the vita) and it was never fun and i stopped playing after 10 to 20 minutes. With the portal it's the first time i really love it. I've played yesterday over 6 hours and beat the last boss in spiderman 2 without problems. I allready love the 200 $ portal more than my 700 $ rog ally. But i must say, i have a really good internet connection: 350 download and 45 upload.
@@alexh7513what is the battery life? Is the device heavy?
@@therunawaykid6523 i would say about 8 hours. No it‘s not heavy and it’s the most comfortable handheld i ever used.
Did you do the port forwarding on your home networks router for off network play I mean
Would of been better if they made a new portable console. Also can just do remote play on my steam deck.
Right? I just wanted a Vita2, not this.
@@PowerSynopsis SAME .... SAAAAAME
So you don't need this product. Huh. Problem solved.
@@ricoxkiller The point went way over your head. It isn't about whether they need it or not. Nobody NEEDS it. What they're saying is that they would rather have a new handheld console, I think a lot of people would rather have a new Sony handheld rather than something that is as limited and underwhelming as the PSPortal.
@@PowerSynopsis it's a gamble for Sony considering the failure of the vita and psp. A handheld that natively plays ps5 quality games would cost more than a ps5. It would be prohibitively expensive for most consumers. It would be a consumer failure. This is considering the technology is even possible.
That's where my point went over your head. The portal is the best case scenario for people to play ps5 games in a handheld form factor. So either you value it Or you don't and do not buy it. Problem solved.
The fake one looks better I like how it’s more suited for handheld instead of a controller cut in half
You got me good with the fake glass breaking 😂
what do u mean fake??

@@jrob0021did you break the screen on a different video then.
@@andrewvidler4471we do the screen crack effect on a lot of videos.
Should I buy a steam deck oled or this ps portal I want to play street fighter 6 on the go?
on xbox all you need is gamepass and can basically play you're game on anything. on phone or tablets all you need is the xbox app which you can remote play which basically what this does. Sony is scummy for selling this as a whole device for just streaming games from your PS5 lol. should've just make a PSP2
It is still a remote play device. There isn't a new ground breaking technology that will magically minimize input lag compared to other setup.
I think they should have made it like an switch or steam deck so that it’s its own system now that would have been cool
Instead they turned the PS5 into a Wii U. This is going to be such a successful product.
This thing is cool and all, but your phone can do everything that a PS portal can and then some. All you need is a $50 USD razer kishi that’s actually more portable because it’s collapsible. Your phone can connect to any Bluetooth headphones and has cellular data so you can steam games anywhere.
Not true. Try do more research before spreading false info. Ps portal can turn on ps5 without need to manually turn on the ps5
@@fantasytky28 I'm not spreading false info. In terms of streaming capability, the PS remote play app will provide you with a similar or even better experience than the PS portal.
I have a bigger PS portal, it’s called a 12.9 inch iPad Pro.
😂
Can you play the games any where or do you need to connect it to the same wifi
NOOOO I really wanted to see the main board......
check out the video tomorrow
There’s a update where you don’t need your ps5 to be on you can play it anywhere at longs as you have a ps5 w update
Definitely worth it when it’s $99
No it isn’t. You might aswell get the remote play app on your phone and use your controller for free.
13:01 is this final fantasy 10 zanarkand music?
Everyone is saying that this device is optimized better for remote play to reduce lag and that's just a complete lie, I'm glad someone actually got on here and told the truth
Can we get an update to this video since the cloud streaming update?.
Sad that you broke the portal, but hopefully this video sets a precedent for other people before they try to take their portal apart.
Yeah and I finally got the rest of the device apart, so I’ll have another video tomorrow. They didn’t make it easy
@@jrob0021
Yeah well here's the thing: difficult teardown, lower longevity. Then again, I highly doubt Sony actually cares about how long their products last, Nintendo sure doesn't.
Love your videos bro! I just bought one too and right out of the box i connected to my wifi and different wifi's and cant get it to system update at all im stuck in factory reset so i can do anything but turn it on and off i even hard reset, still wont update
i stated this so many times in the past , so i'll do it again
EVEN if this Remoteplay device is good for YOU. its still a scam at $199
i wish Sony would get their minds out of the gutter and actually do a new proper handheld because i do miss the PSP days
Take the front covers same when replacing the front n rear with one off amzn and eby instructions are actually in the pictures to screen shot on eby how to disassemble it.
Dude brought a ps portal just to break it for views and UA-cam pay
BRUHHHH
So it doesnt work portable? It needs wifi or can it run a downloaded game?
Seems over complicated sometimes but the design looks dope if its comfortable.
It needs a WiFi connection; cannot download any games on device for offline play
I initially wanted to get the PlayStation portal but with these reviews I think I'll just get the backbone for Android and play PS remote play through that
Exactly
Cover photo looks like someone played that Spider-Man 2 Sandman mission and forgot they’re not actually in the game.
7:12 You don’t know what you’re talking about sir! The steam deck is NOT a remote play device, it uses its own system power to play video games rather than relying on other hardware to be able to stream like this POS device, and a lot of people don’t get that. This device It’s just a masking device at this point with no performance hardware at all it relies on the PS5.
this looks like someone snapped a dual sense controller in half and added the nintendo switch between the 2 half😂
I do plan on picking it up. I remote play a lot and my biggest disappointment is that my dual sense features don't work when streaming the game.
Lmfao did you not just watch the video
Thanks for the teardown I can't wait to see the internals
Spoiler alert: it’s just an androïd tablet inside.
Still better quality than Dk oldies 😂
Baiting for a second video lol. Loved the video cant wait to see what's inside.
I know you can play games on this on PS5 with Remote play? But are you able to connect this to the PS4 for remote play and play your PS4 games? I would love to see a video on that and if your PS5 doesn’t have a disc drive for movies and you can use Remote play on this with a PS4 then maybe you can play moveez on your PS4 if you don’t have a PS5 with a disk slot, and watch movies on your portal, technically
Nice unboxing video and thanks so much for uploading this too! Even though I already have a PS5 now and all, I'm actually not sure yet if I'm planning on picking up the PlayStation Portal for my PS5 and if I ever do decide to get one sometime, I might wait at least a year or two before buying one.
If only they added the option to connect to your ps5 directly instead of over your wifi like the psvita.Psvita remote play used to work without a internet connection as long as your in the same room as your ps4.
They should allow connection over USBC for when you’re in close proximity to the PS5, and when you disconnect the usbc it swaps over to streaming until you plug it back in.
Yes
What’s the point of playing with the portal if you’re close to the ps5..🤨🤔
@@apple-guy9394 kind of what i was thinking lmaoo
Then that defeats the purpose of the device itself, doesn’t look practical at all.
@@apple-guy9394let’s say your family is on the tv that your PlayStation is connected to but you still want to sit on the couch and be with them while they watch something. It would just be a nice feature allowing for more competitive games. It would’ve been so easy for them to implement. Or maybe your ps5 and monitor are close to your bed but facing away and you don’t wanna sit at your desk (this is how my setup is)
No Lie. Im still playing the Vita to this day. Solid
I mean are we surprised? I knew the second this was announced it was gonna be messy, buggy, and performs terribly, even over fast WiFi
Same!
did you even watch the video
I remote play and cloud play all the time and I don't have any input lag or dropped frames. It's all on your internet and router. If you have a fast internet and a good router the experience is indistinguishable from playing on your console. The picture quality might be a little lower, but input lag and dropped frames are not a problem
@@gamingden444 Whole thing. Looks like garbage, latency is bad, easy to break I mean c'mon. "Did you even watch the video"
@@hustla818 Tell that to my 5G WiFi I have. PS5 using ethernet as well, had my cousin bring his over, Astro's Playroom was quite not playable, sure maybe 12 frames per second, and looks worse if it was ported on a Nintendo switch, so sure... you can PLAY it if you'd rather wait to actually play the game. Especially a Sony product, this should be better than remote play since its connecting to you actual console. I have Game Pass and play on my Z Flip 3 no issue, AND with input lag not noticeable and image quality that to almost a home console experience. They need to rethink or retool the whole thing, waste of your hard earned cash. A vita or PSP is worth more your time.
So can you only login to your "primary" PS5 with the Portal or any PS5 you have an account on? Thx
It’s honestly mind boggling how much delay there is to the console (from the looks of it. I’m not wasting my money on that. 😂). DS Download Play runs circles around this whole “Wi-Fi only” bullshit.
I've used remote play on my Xbox Series X every day and have never had a issue. No lag, decent image quality. It's disappointing that Playstation can't do it at least as good. It does make a difference connecting the system with a lan cable vs Wi-Fi
How do you break a piece of trash?
1:50 Really funny! Broke it already
So other than a nice presentation/form factor this is no better than using the remote play app on your phone or computer
Ignoring all the display size, ergonomic? And also the auto turn on ps5 feature?
PlayStation should have just sold the controller handles that way we could pick any phone any tablet in the middle beautiful I would have paid £200 for that😊
I get a lot of lag with my portal wich is big bummer for me
Sony says: Good Now buy the Pro model lol
I have a feeling that it could give you a competitive edge if you use it as a controller
With so many teardown video’s available for reference I’m not sure why ruining a portal by brute forcing it apart was your go to method. My heart goes out to that poor portal 😑
Where did you get that PlayStation portal
We really are in the era of companies trying to put so little effort into things and trying to make some quick profits huh
I could never own this the temptation to snap those joy-cons off the side would be too much
How Exactly Did You Break Your Playstation Portal?😢
Script
I mean you could just watch the video and see lol.
I just got my Portal today and it's been amazing. Now I've only tried it from my house but so far there's been like no leg on Call of Duty and it's been looking amazing and playing amazing!
Mine works great!!! Can’t feel any noticeable lag and plays everything I’ve tried so far with zero issues at least so far
Same love it
Mine too, I live in a busy household so I can just turn on my ps5 and then play it on my portal, I have good wifi so I never get lag that much, sometimes the game freezes but you just need to disconnect and connect again then it works! People don’t get it’s marketed as an “Accessory” Sometimes I get my Xbox controller and remote play it from my tablet but vibration and haptic feedback doesn’t work, so I like how the portal still has dualsense features, I got it for my birthday this year and it doesn’t deserve any criticism, it’s being compared to standalone handhelds, which the portal isn’t, so it’s being unfairly treated, so I think people should become smarter and realise what the PlayStation portal really is!
I didn’t mean to ramble THAT much 😂
what is the distance between the portal and the PS5 so that it remains connected to play games
this is sad from playstation but not surprised either
Got mine yesterday. Was worried beforehand about connection...I have slow Internet. My PS5 is hard wired, obviously this is Wi-Fi off it.
I love this thing. Played probably 8 hours total yesterday, zero lag, frame drop. Runs like I'm on my PS5. I'm using a plug in skull candy headset, but will get new earbuds when they drop. With new audio company Sony bought, supposed to have best audio on the market moving forward with new headsets and earbuds.
This thing is legit. I'm actually shocked how well it works. First remote play I've ever had with no frame drop or lag, and I tried maybe 8 different games from Spiderman 2 to Alan Wake 2, to Robocop and Lords of the Fallen, etc.
Completely useless... why play games on a 65" TV in your house when you can play on a tiny 8 inch screen? F-ing brilliant.
I'm just going to get the new steam deck
