This song-- "Someone Belonging to..." as well as "I LOVE YOU TOO MUCH" and "LIFE GOES ON" are all fabulous Bee Gees songs which (like often with the Bee Gees) didnt get the recognition they deserved. Although the Bee Gees were always hesitant to criticize anyone, one does get the impression from some of their interviews that they might not have been happy with where the songs were placed in the movie. Btw, "I'M NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP" (Cynthia Rhodes) and " MOODY GIRL" (Frank Stallone) are 2 other terrific songs from the movie IMO!
This was a real skill of Barry's - the way he'd communicate the emotion and feeling of the song whenever he looked into the camera. It really was, as you say, as if he's singing directly to the person watching. He's gorgeous. :)

Watched Staying Alive again after all these years. All the songs in the soundtrack were excellent but Someone Belonging to Someone really stands out. Classic Bee Gees harmony and lyrics so fitting for that scene. Don't know how many times I've watched and re-watched the clip but every time it never fails to tug the heart strings.
